Pee Jugs, Resident Evil, and Beluga Whales: Life Outside GG

Last month was wild. The hype, the hot takes, the skepticism around Project Evo, it’s been thick. For us it’s mostly excitement with a little “oh shit, this is real now.” The pivot is big, stuff’s changing, and it’s coming soon.

So here’s what we’ve been up to these past five weeks:

SR7 went back to his roots. If you didn’t know, his past life was in trucking with him and his dad hauling wood across Canada and the States. Recently, he had to hop back in the semi for a few short trips helping clear out a relative’s estate. Think 4-hour drives, blasting “Life is A Highway” pure hoser rock on repeat, then stopping at truck stops that smell like burnt coffee and urinal cakes, to grab a diet coke and couple pep & cheds. A few months ago we were joking about him getting a calloused taint from all the cycling he was doing. Now the worry is whether he remembers how to pee in a toilet instead of a jug.

Henshin is the mystery man. Every time I ask him what he’s been up to, I get the classic: “Uh… outside of work?” This time it was nothing. Just grinding on Evo and then more work on his side project. The man might actually be work sleep repeat personified. Only thing he mentioned was replaying Resident Evil 1996 and the 2002 remake, making mental notes on all the little differences. That’s just how his brain works.

Me? I snuck in a bit of adventure this summer. Took the 16 hr overnight train ride up to Churchill, Manitoba, a place you can only reach by train, plane, or boat. Walked around Fort Prince of Wales, which used to be a 1700's Hudson Bay trading post until the French rolled in and took it. The wildest part is there’s still a carving on the wall from some teenage kid back in the 1700s that just says “the worst plac”, pretty accurate. It’s nothing but tundra and wind. But we hit the jackpot, it was beluga season. I saw over a hundred of them on a zodiac ride. Back home, I finally beat Doom 2016 (yes, late to the party) and grabbed Space Marine 2 on sale. First WH40K game for me, it should be fun. On the book side, I’ve been chewing through business stuff, but next up is the biography on McD's Ray Kroc’s. For beer, I’ve been on a big West Coast IPA kick. There’s just something about that resin-dank sweetness hitting on a hot day that feels like a guilty pleasure, but the leaves are changing so that means stout season is coming.

That’s the snapshot. The team’s been grinding, we’re almost there, and Evo’s about ready to drop.
