Two Years / Zwei Jahre

We are soon reaching the two year mark of this Patreon. A good time to reflect about the initial idea and how it took shape.

When I created this Patreon, I had just left a dayjob I had been trapped in for years. During that time creativity was my lifeline.
No matter if you are a creative professional or a passionate hobbyist, the creative work you do not only influences your life, but also that of others. It matters.

I was very optimistic with this Patreon, hoping it would attract a crowd and that I could put more time into creative work. Crowd-wise it didn’t quite work yet. It has however inspired me to work on a few projects I otherwise might have not. For example the translation of the first Robert Fox case (here).

In mid 2021 I found a great new place to earn a living as a software-engineer, where teamwork and well-being are as much a focus as the products we develop. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
The updates here slowed down, but you stayed. Thank you so much for your support. Without you, all of this would be pointless.

As a result of my pondering, I have updated the tiers a bit and decided to include German content as well. A lot of my followers on Twitter are from Germany and especially interested in my writing.
I have renamed the upper level tier to “Avid Supporter”, which is intended for those who would like to give a little more. It includes extra surprises now and then.

In general I will post more of my works of fiction originally written in German. They will not be translated for now. It’s simply too much work given the small number of patrons at the moment.
However this little change will hopefully raise more interest and result in more frequent posts, which will also have English translations.

What else is new?

I’ve developed the Creative Companion (#Creacom), a motivational tool for Windows, which will be available tomorrow to all patrons.
My wife and I use it for our daily writing and it turned out to be a bit of a game-changer. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it, too.
It’s an ongoing development, so look forward to future updates.

And of course Nanowrimo is coming up, so there will be more writing-related content.

Furthermore I decided to offer signed paperback or hardcover editions of my novel as another benefit for patrons.

Bald erreichen wir mit diesem Patreon die Zweijahresmarke. Ein guter Zeitpunkt für einen Rückblick.

Ich begann mit Patreon, nachdem ich gerade einen Brotjob gekündigt hatte, in dem ich seit Jahren feststeckte. Während dieser Zeit war Kreativität mein Rettungsanker.
Ganz gleich, ob als professioneller Kreativer oder leidenschaftlicher Hobbykünstler, die geleistete kreative Arbeit beeinflusst nicht nur das eigene Leben, sondern auch das anderer Menschen. Sie macht einen Unterschied.

Ich war sehr optimistisch, mit diesem Patreon einige Leute zu erreichen und mehr Zeit in meine kreative Arbeit stecken zu können. So viele waren es bisher leider doch nicht. Dafür hat es mich aber inspiriert an einigen Projekten zu arbeiten, die andernfalls nicht zustande gekommen wären. Beispielsweise die Übersetzung des ersten Falls von Robert Fuchs ins Englische (hier).

Mitte 2021 fand ich eine neue Stelle als Software-Ingenieur, in der Teamwork und Wohlbefinden ebenso hohe Priorität haben wie die Produkte, die wir entwickeln. Ich würde es nicht mehr anders haben wollen.
Die Updates hier wurden seltener, aber du bist geblieben. Herzlichen Dank für deine Unterstützung. Ohne dich wäre das hier sinnlos.

Durch meine Überlegungen habe ich die Stufen hier etwas aktualisiert und beschlossen, nun auch deutsche Inhalte zu posten. Viele meiner Follower auf Twitter kommen aus Deutschland und interessieren sich vor allem für mein Schreiben.
Die höhere Stufe habe ich in »Avid Supporter« umbenannt und sie ist für diejenigen gedacht, die mich etwas mehr unterstützen möchten. Sie beinhaltet alle bisherigen Belohnungen, und hin und wieder wird es eine Extraüberraschung geben.

Im Allgemeinen werde ich mehr von meinen Geschichten (auf Deutsch) posten, ohne sie zu übersetzen. Dafür ist die englische Zielgruppe hier einfach noch zu klein.
Ich denke aber, dass diese Änderung möglicherweise mehr Interesse weckt und auch dazu führt, dass ich häufiger Beiträge schreibe.

Was gibt es sonst noch Neues?

Ich habe den Creative Companion (#Creacom) entwickelt, ein Motivationstool für Windows, das ab morgen allen Patrons zur Verfügung stehen wird.
Meine Frau und ich benutzen es für unser tägliches Schreiben und es hat sich als sehr hilfreich erwiesen. Hoffentlich ist es auch für dich nützlich.
Die Entwicklung läuft weiter, also halte die Augen offen nach zukünftigen Updates.

Und natürlich ist bald wieder Nanowrimo angesagt. Es wird also wieder mehr Schreibimpulse geben.
