Fighter Spotlight: Baysangur Susurkaev
Added 2024-12-22 01:15:41 +0000 UTCI wanted to take a deeper look into Susurkaev considering he's coming off his first fight that went the distance. Prior to that, Susurkaev had finished his other fights in the first round and three of those were under a minute. After his fight with Artem Kuzmin for ACA Young Eagles out of Russia he took a layoff. The layoff was over two and a half years. While he was away he moved to the US and started training at Kill Cliff FC in Miami, Florida. There, he's been sparring with Brendan Allen, Gregory Rodrigues, Nassourdine Imavov, and other top guys.
Prior to his last fight, my take on Susurkaev was he looked good but couldn't tell how good. What stood out the most was his composure but still being able to find quick finishes. He looks almost bored out there holding his hands to his waist and moping around. It's a part of his style that may be trying to lull his opponents into a comfortable state and then explode with something big. Susurkaev can be low volume but that's not a big concern of his. A lot of what he does is use a lot of feints to find his openings. A lot of credit goes to his faints and timing as three of his wins come from a perfectly times knee. When he does open up though Susurkaev has some slick combinations he throws. I like the way he throws the one-two and goes to the body as well.
In his fight with Shane Sobnosky, it gave a lot of answers. Susurkaev won the fight but going three rounds with Sobnosky isn't a good look. He had a few moments where he could've finished but didn't. I didn't like that he was taken down so much and getting his back taken. When he would get a dominant position he found himself losing position a bit too much. I like his defensive wrestling but as of now, his technique is a little too green.
With Susurkaev now being at Kill Cliff I can see him turning out to be a quality fighter. He's only 23 and at 185 that's something rare because the potential is there. I wanna see another two or three fights before possibly signing to the UFC and I wanna see him get at least another formidable opponent.
