Pairanormal: We're Bug Testing!

As you can see, folks; the first build of Pairanormal is out, and Salty and I are currently in the process of hammering out as many bugs as we can. I look forward to sharing an alpha with all of our patrons soon! And keep tuned for some more screenshots of gameplay as time goes on.

Chapter 2 Patron Only Release Date

Man oh man! These past three days have been spectacular--I busted out all the character animations (46 in total!) and in my spare time have been combing through the game's script trying to preemptively fix any errors I see before it's officially plugged in to the game's engine. Anyway, take a look at the categories now:

You might notice I've added the music category, even though I didn't make the music, but I wanted you to know that it's all done, too. So, now that we've reached this stage, here's what's going to happen:

Final Steps Before Alpha

I've officially handed over everything I have, including some placeholders, to Salty. He's currently on vacation, but when he returns he'll start plugging the script into the engine. At the same time, I'll be finishing up all the art--backgrounds, images, and anything else that needs a spit-shine. AT WHICH POINT, WE'LL BE RELEASING THE ALPHA!

As usual, our patrons get the exclusive, one of a kind, super buggy version of the game before anyone else. If you've stuck around this long, we want you to play first!

I hope you're as excited as I am. I'll be keeping you posted on our progress, but look forward to Chapter 2 At the end of September!

oh man, I love my new job. I have so much more time to work. I literally CANT wait to wrap up production on Chapter 2 so you guys can play it! 

So today I busted out a TON of animation of the new characters--only five more remain. Take a look at our progress update:

Check Out the New Character Roster! (Chapter 2)

Hey guys! Like I've said before, it's been quite a while since we've posted any significant updates to Chapter 2 or Pairanormal, but I'm hoping this mini-wallpaper which everyone can download makes up for it, and significantly whets your appetite for the most upcoming entry in our game!

As you can see here, this features every character in the game so far. I love viewing all of them together--doesn't Foster Falls seem so alive with all these cool characters in it? Some of these characters you've already met, but some you haven't yet! Feel free to speculate just what their role will be in the upcoming Chapter 2.

BOOM BOOM BOOM! Music Update~

Oooh, mama, I'm so excited to share with y'all. The last song for Chapter 2 has been created by our musician, Maglo, and in my opinion, it's totally the best one yet! This is the "Love" theme, which will be playing during romantic scenes.

In related news, Volume 1 of Pairanormal's soundtrack is available for purchase! Click here to get it! 

If you like Mag.Lo's work (and why wouldn't you?) feel free to support him by picking up his excellent album on bandcamp. All the proceeds go straight to him for the album; you might not be able to get it anywhere else! (except of course by playing Pairanormal.)

Attention Patrons! Don't Forget to Update Payment Methods~!

Surf's up, Patrons! (that's how I start all my letters these days, but that's another story.)

Recently several banks updated their security policies, and some other factors have come into play this month that have caused Patreon to deny several payments across the site. Make sure that your payment went through, and if it didn't, I and all the other patreon creators would greatly appreciate it if you took the time to update your payment methods! It can be as easy as verifying your payment information, or you might have to double check with your bank.

In Other News, Expect More Updates This Week!

I have asked for a week off of work (for personal reasons, but that's another 'nother story) which means I will have some free time to really get down and dirty with Pairanormal. Expect several updates this week; I hope you'll really enjoy them!

Hey! We're not dead, I swear!

Howdy Folks. Just wanted to take some time to update you on how Pairanormal was going.

You might have noticed I'm pretty dead on almost all social media. That's because this new job that I have is taking up a lot of time. More time that I really expected it would. I am on the clock 20 hours a day, and in those short moments where I get a break, I can sometimes chip away at Chapter 2 of Pairanormal, but mostly I just get some much needed sleep!

I keep an eye on the Patreon when I can, and I've noticed we've lost a lot of patrons lately. That's okay, and I hope I can get some of your pledges back when Chapter 2 is released. For the rest of you out there though, Thank you for sticking with me! I am still working on the game!

Right now I'm making progress on the annotations of Chapter 2, but hopefully soon I will be able to post some art. Stay tuned for it!

So today has been my one day off. I've spent it working on the teachers of Pairanormal! Pairanormal: Chapter 1 for Mac is here!

Sorry for the delay, y'all. The truth is, I've had this little guy on the burner since late May, but I was so busy I forgot to put the darn thing up!

My programmer handed me the build, so I'm in the process of adding it to the itchio page. In the meantime, Mac users can download the OSX version right from this post.

Chapter 2 is still being worked on and we hope to have it released later in June, for all of our wonderful backers! Thanks for your continued support<3 <3 <3

Pairanormal: Meet the other students of Foster High!

Hey folks. Thanks for stopping by yesterday's Pairanormal art stream. For those of you who were unable to catch it, I just wanted to show you what came of it: six brand new faces to haunt the halls of Foster High!

These kids don't really have names, but I created them to make the setting of the game seem more alive. I might even make more in the future. It was really fun to do, after all! I loved playing with all of the potential different body types, and creating unique ways to style the school uniform.

Hope to see you in future streams! You might want to check out tomorrow's stream in particular. I plan to do a live read-through of Chapter 2, while I edit it and add some code annotations.

Pairanormal Progress: PEDAL TO THE METAL

hey, just letting y'all know how goes the progress of Pairanormal. Salty has created a pretty feature complete version of the game, wherein we'll be able to easily release new chapters and you can play them without screwing up your saves or having to start over every time. It needs a few more bug fixes, but we are definitely on track to release it this month.

Meanwhile, I've gotten about 50% written of Chapter 2. I hope to do some writing streams this week and really bang it out. Keep an eye on the patreon, where I'll make announcements when I work!

Hey Hi Ho! What's goin' on?

I know I've been quiet for a while folks, so I just wanted to check in and let you know how work goes on our recent projects.

Salty has been sick, as Salty tends to be. However, he assures me that a final, mostly bug-free Chapter 1 of Pairanormal will be available before the end of May. In the meantime, I've been hard at work writing Chapters 2 and 3 of Pairanormal. Why 2 at once, you ask?

As you know, this is all part time work. I'm generally hustling and bustling with other part time jobs to stay afloat. I've recently needed to get a lot of money in a very short amount of time, so my next undertaking with be 3 month contract, where I'll largely be unavailable to keep making games. So I'm trying to hustle to get a couple of chapters of Pairanormal to release in that time so everyone can be happy and entertained and distracted!

Lastly, I'm sure you're all wondering: what do all these mermaids have to do with all this? nothing! But it's mermay so I thought y'all deserved some cute drawings to accompany you throughout the day.

Quick Pairanormal Update!

Hey folks, my personal life has been pretty hectic lately with some family stuff, so true apologies for not being as active as we hoped post-release. But luckily, my programmer has been going at it. Here's what's been reported so far!

  • a few bugs from the first chapter have been squashed
  • The UI for the new save menu has been added
  • we've created a bug checking script that we can run for future chapters to catch a large number of game-breaking bugs (the ones due to syntax stuff)
  • The gallery has been implemented (now every time you encounter an image during gameplay, it appears in the gallery!)

As For me, I've been writing down bugs and stuff, and I've also made an important addition to the game page: Now under each character bio there's a link to the REAL people each character is based on (lot of people wanted to know who everyone was, so I added that in!)

That's all for now! I've started writing Chapter 2, but for now Salty and I are focusing on polishing Chapter 1. Stay tuned for more!

Pairanormal: Fan Report!

Hey folks, it's us!

After releasing Pairanormal's Demo chapter earlier this month, I took the rest of the time to work on other projects, view feedback from the game, record bugs, and just basically enjoy people enjoying the first chapter. I'd just like to take this opportunity to report on the cool stuff that's been happening, and let you know what's going on next.

Fan art!

Pairanormal's gotten it's first fanart! I'm so happy to share it with you guys. This lovely OC by @MissFaithSims perfectly captures Pairanormal's character art style (infamous "red chins" included)! I love it~

This dope cosplay by XXX Made me absolutely scream. Seriously, this is a dead-ringer for Mari!

Also, I had to mention, Stacy herself seemed to be inspired by the game and made a Pairanormal-themed sandwich. (apples and grilled cheese are actually delicious, guys)

Let's Players

Additionally, I wanted to give a shoutout to a couple of my favorite Let's Plays of the first chapter. If you've already played the game and want to watch some fun reactions, I recommend you check these out!

Positive Stress streamed a full let's play of the game, and was really cracking me up; I laughed the whole time at his jokes! If you want a funny take on the game, definitely check it out

And the Hex Code Girls are a group of queer let's players who are really funny and are playing through the game in short chunks. They release about 15 minutes of gameplay every week.

Pairanormal v1.2 is here!

 Haha remember when I said I was going to take a two day break? I DIDN'T! And if one more person tells me to take care of my health I'm literally going to burst into flame.

The recording bug, and several other bugs have been fixed--the game is now recordable. please play the game, stream it, share it, and get the good word out. Let's keep this ball rolling!

Bugs we've fixed since v1.1

  • There's now an SDL version of the game. If the AL version wasn't working for you, this SDL version may clear up a lot of issues you were having, INCLUDING recording! That's right! you should be able to record the game now!
  • Flashing Images toggle in settings now works. If the glitch effect is too strong for you, you should now be able to turn it off in the game's settings.
  • Some new items are now available in investigate mode: you can now "inspect" people in the room during an investigation, and talk to characters in the room about someone else who is nearby.
  • Many game-breaking interactions have been fixed: some choices in investigation mode and the story would break the game, including showing Bret Mari's pills, looking at certain objects in investigation mode, and reading with Todd. They shouldn't cause you much trouble anymore!
  • A handful of grammatical errors have been fixed: Special thanks to Leo for suggesting french corrections to us, and all others for your grammatical spots. We were able to correct several thanks to your feedback!

Hey all, I'm back with a preliminary bug report before the next build releases. There'll probably be one last one this month before we start moving on to Chapter 2. As usual, use the comments here to let us know of any problems you're experiencing with the game, and we'll try and address it in the next build. And if you want to report a grammatical error you spotted, please tell us exactly where you found it, as those are particularly pesky to track down.

  • During investigation mode, the hitboxes for the investigatable items never go away. Even after the investigation is over!
  • Showing Laura herself in the first investigation mode breaks the game

Pairanormal Post-release: We're squashing bugs!

Hey guys. in case you haven't heard, Pairanormal was released in the wee hours of today. After a big burnout nap, I awoke to read about some of the bugs and crashes you've encountered while playing the game. Some of them are a little more serious than others, but I've talked to Salty, and here's the plan:

We're taking the next two days off, then start squashing. Salty and I spent Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday of this week pulling all night, 8 hour crunches (that was three nights where we went to sleep as the sun was coming up). We do need some time to recuperate--we hope you'll understand and hang tight until we get back!

We're writing down every problem you run into. If you experience an issue, please write a comment on our bug report post. It's where we're keeping track of all known bugs--the more you tell us, the better we can make the game! And yes, even on my two break days, I'll be checking twitter, tumblr, and this post to record every bug.

If you're a Let's Player, hold off on playing the game. There are a couple of big problems specifically facing Let's Players, and we're going to be addressing those first. We recommend if you plan on recording the game to save yourself of any potential spoilers (there are some fun twists in this chapter!) and get them on camera with a more polished version in a few days.

Pairanormal Chapter 1 is here!

We did it guys! the first chapter (aka the demo) has been released in a beta state. 

Everyone, including non-backers, can play this game for free at the above link. 

The game is in beta and not feature complete, however Salty and I have tested it pretty extensively and it should be completely playable without any major hiccups from beginning to end. If you don't want to play a buggy version of the game, we suggest you hang tight until the final version is released later this month! 

For the rest of you brave players, let us know if you have any issues and we'll do whatever we can to help you. In fact, we've got a whole post just for bug reporting here! Check it out!

Pairanormal: Bug Report Post!

this post is for bugs found in v1.1, a now obsolete version of Pairanormal. to report bugs for version 1.2 which is currently live, click here.

Problems We're Aware of And Are Working to Fix:

  • The in-game gallery doesn't work. You aren't able to see images after you unlock them in the story
  • The settings menu is not feature complete. you aren't able to toggle flashing images on and off
  • The game currently doesn't save your progress after every screen. We'll be building a more robust save/continue menu over the course of the month
  • some objects are missing from "investigation mode", which make taking the quiz midway through the game difficult, as you are missing information. However, the quiz doesn't punish you for "failing" it, so you can still play through the game without suffering any consequences.
  • Pairnormal is not currently playable on Mac. We are developing a mac release this month.

Problems Reported by Players

 If you encounter a bug or problem, tell us about it in the comments. If possible, tell us what was in the dev console at the time of the error (the dev console is the black window that runs with the game).

  • Showing Bret Mari's pills in the first investigation can break the game
  • Some players are having difficulty running the game -- Starlight Engine crashes on startup
  • Some players are having audio issues when recording the game or playing it in conjunction with USB devices. Please be careful, as this effect could damage your ears!
  • Some players can't run the game the first time, but can run it after restarting their computer
  • Some players have difficulty showing certain items to certain characters in investigation mode, namely the ones that must be scrolled offscreen to find.

As you know, Pairnormal Chapter 1 is practically seconds away from being released. Last night I tested the game out with my programmer and we compiled a final list of tweaks that we want to make before it gets put into your hands. Today we've all just been implementing those tweaks, and with any luck pop out an executable for the public soon.

Week of Pairanormal: WE DID IT!

Guys, after 8 whole hours of work, I finally completed editing the entire script of Pairanormal. I just sent it in to my programmer, and hopefully this weekend, we're gonna have a game!

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO CAME TO THE STREAM!

I was literally up all night trying to finish this thing, and to my shock, we actually had a few viewers who stuck by me through the whole thing. I wanna give a personal shoutout to users "RedPanda" "Marshmallowss" "StariNight69", "SnowHoldsBard" and Todd, and everyone else who poked their head in!

AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR BACKING!

Guys, I'm not joking. We got a series of pledges from a ton of people throughout the month, in uncoordinated, random amounts. And this is how much we have now:

so yeah. Talk about a good omen.

Anywho, the next update you'll be getting from us will be this weekend, when we release the game.

This will not be the final version of the first Chapter, there's still probably going to be lots of bugs to hammer out, but I promise the game will be playable in its entirety.

Things are getting pretty darn close to the finish line, so since the crunch week is drawing to a close, I'm pulling one last all nighter to get this damn script finished.

"Week" of Pairanormal! Day 6

Hey guys! The "week" (week? weak? WEAK) of Pairanormal continues. IM NOT LOSING STEAM, yOU ARE!!!1

Day 6: Scripting Continues

Unfortunately writing Pairanormal's script isn't very fun flashy, so instead I posted another quick screenshot of some alpha gameplay. However, I'm still hammering away at it, and I'm resolved, and technically still on track to get this thing done before the end of the month. 

After that, polishing the game will be all that's left to do. I think, just so we don't keep folks waiting, we'll continue to update and polish the first chapter after its release, but for all our backers and the general public, they'll at least have something playable in their hands.
