2022-01-07 17:01:02 +0000 UTC View PostI thought it would be nice to do a big, end of year summary of everything that's happened this year! It's certainly been a full, rewarding year for me, These Reluctant Years, and all of you, I hope!
Writing-wise, I would estimate that Years is approximately 75% completed. And, at around 500,000 words, it is by far my largest/longest project, yet! There have also been a lot of milestones on other platforms, such as 500 likes on the Choice of Games forum thread, 10,000 clicks/views on the Dashingdon link, and around 425 followers on Tumblr! And I couldn't have accomplished any of it without your support!
I would like to sincerely thank you all for your continued patronage, as well as wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. Here's to a new year filled with new supplementary stories, art, and updates!

2021-11-05 16:00:10 +0000 UTC View PostSome big announcements, this time! The commission of Vance and Merriweather is done, and (well, some of it -- you'll see... (; ) scheduled to go public today! I think it's a great portrait of everyone's favorite Frontiersmen couple.
I've also heard back from my cover artist! They're not finished with the cover, yet (they estimated by the end of the year), but I did receive permission to share some of their work-in-progress sketches with you, so I will be doing that in the coming weeks.

I haven't heard anything back from them over e-mail, so I sent them a Tumblr message. The little green indicator light is telling me that they're relatively active (within the last hour), so we'll see if that gets a response. I've also asked if they would be comfortable with me sharing the in-progress sketches they've already sent me -- I figure that that would be the next best thing because I don't have the completed cover art like I wanted by this time of the year. ):
In more uplifting news, I believe the commissioned portrait of Vance and Merriweather is currently in progress, so be on the lookout for that, soon! :D

In other news, here's a little sneak peek into my writing process. Right now, it's still very much an outline, but I will go through route-by-route (usually doing one of each faction as if both MC1 and MC2 joined together because it's easier to take away references to other characters than it is add them in) and write each path.
Since my last update, the portrait of Reid Napier was posted. I love how it turned out and really think it captures his personality. We also have a new patron! (:
In other news, I've finally began the outlining for chapter 5 -- we're getting there, slowly (all right, really slowly) but surely! Some of you might remember that my cover artist was supposed to update me in September, but I thought I would give them some extra time. It's well into October, now, though, so I think I'm going to contact them and see what's what. I had hoped to have something to share here, by now. ):

Other than that, there's not too much of an update, this week (or should it be last week?). The next piece of commissioned artwork will be Vance and Merriweather if I can find an artist comfortable with drawing the latter's anatomy (some people only like to draw human characters and that's completely fine). If I can't, then it will probably be Sargent Winterbourne. The next post will be Reid's portrait, and I hope that you've been enjoying the "fun facts" about romanceable characters in the interim!

My cover artist said that they would have something ready to show me (and consequently all of you, lol!) bu the end of September, and it's getting to the end of the month... I don't want to hassle them, but I think I'll just ask what's what if they don't get back to me by this week or just the first few days of October.

I wanted to update you all on the cover art situation. The artist has already sketched an outline and shown me how everything is laid out -- it looks great! With their permission, I hope to have some in-progress images to share with you, soon! It also looks like Prudence's Frontiersmen squad has won (with one entire vote, wow!) the "who do you want to see art of next" poll, so be on the look out for a commission of them coming soon!

Chapter 6 is going to be the big, final battle. Everything you've done will conclude here, and the fate of the Colonies and/or Sovereignty will be decided. This means that you will have the opportunity to kill/betray people and take any romantic interests to the next level. I haven't worked out the specific details of the setting, yet, but I'm a sucker for epic climaxes so it will probably just be the two armies meeting in a big old field.
After that comes the epilogue, which I am planning on making half-traditional-epilogue and half-choice-based-epilogue. By this, I mean that the epilogue will include both a summary of what characters do after the "story" is over and certain choices for the player to make. I would like the decisions to feel final, so these choices won't be too consequential at the last minute... But, for example, you might be able to choose how many children you had with X character when the narrator prompts you.

I haven't had much time to work on chapter 5, lately, but let me at least tell you a little bit about what I'l planning. An MC1 who's siding with the Sovereignty will meet their brother, again, and he's likely to be as unpleasant as ever. The Sovereign will also, in general, be impatient about the progress of his campaign and seek information about the Goldendoor twins to use against them. Main characters siding with the radicals will accompany the twins to their childhood home and learn more about where they came from.
