Apple/iOS Payments

As many of you know, Apple has been adding exorbitant fees onto Patreon subscriptions (as well as many other apps involving payment). However! In case you weren't aware, they are now legally required to offer other options for checkout, rather than just Apple's checkout option.

Apple is still applying the fees if you use their checkout, but if you subscribe with Patreon's checkout, or subscribe on the web version rather than in the iOS app, you will be charged the standard prices without the ridiculous fees.

Because it is a US court ruling that is requiring Apple to offer other checkout options in the iOS app, it's currently not 100% clear if they're offering these other checkout options in non-US users' iOS apps. If they aren't available to you, I would strongly suggest subscribing through Patreon's website, rather than through the app, and then just double checking the charge on your bank statement or something to make sure that you were charged the normal amount without the added fees.

It's felt so gross knowing that people are getting charged so much more for simply using the Apple app, so I do strongly suggest switching your subscriptions so they don't go through Apple if you can. I set my prices to what they are for a reason, and Apple deciding they want to pocket a bunch of "Totally necessary added fees" on people's work feels... skeevy. And gross.
