Once again I have too many ideas bouncing in my head, so I'm leaving it up to you guys to decide what I should be drawing next!

I have a one-track mind, so in fear of getting too repetitive with the options, I also added a 7th option, where you can suggest something else to draw. The rules are nothing too unreasonably complex, and other people vocally agree to the suggestion with their own comments!

神兵鬼卒 AKA the Heavenly Soldier Boys

 Gonna kick some demon ass. 

Inspiration hit when I suddenly remembered the awesome "搜山图"-paintings again (which I tweeted about back in March!), where all the Heavenly Soldiers were these monstrous orcish dudes hunting down demons. 

They're awesome.

Legionary Extraordinary "Siege"- Short, preview (pg. 4-5, out of 7)

Still chipping away at it. It is the comic-making grindset. One inked and one still wip (I'll get to it!)

I gave Aelana (Previously seen in Legionary Extraordinary 2!) a slight haircut. Mostly 'cause it felt a little silly having a character who had hair just similar enough with Yedocia that drawing it always pauses me hahaha. 

My friend told I should extend the comic a bit for its second half, to elaborate on some details, and perhaps I should. I will have to consider that.

Qin and Guan + some WIPs

More of them + some WIPs. Drawing out Guan Qinglang and Qin Bailing's goofy rivalry is funny, they rub each other the wrong way in all the right ways; Rugged vs. Scholarly, loose vs. uptigh, Naturalist vs. Traditionalist, lowbrow vs. highbrow, Shandong vs. Shanxi, short vs. tall, etc.

The last two of the Knight-Sabers have been illustrated!

Drawing in Sonoda's style has so far been more relaxing than Sakura Wars/Kousuke Fujishima's style hahaha.

Legionary Extraordinary "Siege"- Short, preview (pg. 1-3, out of 7)

It has been an inexcusably long time since the last time I drew Legionary Extraordinary related anything, and sieges had been in my mind for a while (as evident by that Young Samus comic). 

My goal this year is to start drawing more comics more often, and I will try my best to keep it!

I often think about the anecdote of how most of the time being in the military, across any given era, is just nothing but waiting (anxiously or otherwise). I figure during sieges it might get excruciating, esp. when those can last for an even more ridiculous amount of time.

Trying to get that "printed anime magazine scan look" is still a goal that escapes my grasp. Perhaps one day I can do so perfectly with digital tools, but for now this will have to do.

I am very addicted to drawing these characters now. I need to direct that energy to projects too!

"Teenager with attitude" - Metroid short comic about when Samus was young and rebellious

This took an embarrassingly long time, but its here now.

I like to imagine Samus is always on a fundamentally different wavelength than others, though as her younger self she'd still have that "youthful invinsibility"-mentality manifested as someone who is very self-assured & "knows" she is better (which she kinda is hahaha). She does come across very obnoxious overachiever wunderkind without really trying to hahaha.

In between everything, I did more drawings of Moumou, that one VHS mascot I had designed.

Sometimes I wonder if I should quit drawing in this wannabe old school anime style before it overtakes me, but its too fun and I am a decadent hedonist so...

Young Samus WIP (pg1-2)

Thank you for your patience, sorry for the lack of updates. Been chipping away at this simultaneously with some commission work and other comic project been working on. Drawing comics always turn out longer than planned, no matter how long. Need to work on that definitely.

Noticed in myself that, while drawing regular character drawings have been painless, drawing comics themselves is right now like pulling teeth sometimes. But on the other hand, that is how I felt about drawing just characters to begin with, so it is something that I will work on getting over as long as I keep at it!

Anyway, experimenting also with drawing the comic in only black&white which I haven't been doing all that often. Still unsure about the panel layouts for the first page, but we'll see if I can live it or do something about it (any feedback is welcome!).

Bubblegum Crisis Priss & Sylia

It is done. Drawing in the Bubblegum Crisis style was fun, and got to draw the Knight-Sabers' Hardsuits, always a great joy. Will I draw Nene and Linna at some point too? We'll see if I get the sudden inspiration/impulse to do so.

I also recently found a fun VHS filter to experiment with. This is definitely one of the more convincing ones I've found, and its interesting to see how much colour-distortion happens when you put through this filter.

The importance of Colour-planning during the cel-animation days becomes more obvious when you start to notice certain colour-tones becoming Far too saturated and dark (most evident in the Priss drawing below) when put through an analog signal, even if its only a digital simulation of it. The faded colours look less faded & become saturated when rendered through analogue, while the ultra-technicolour stuff somehow "balances" out to look less garish than it would've.
You kinda have to start shading a lot more conservatively (but still creatively) so that the end result when filtered looks right. 

It kinda does explain through "first-hand" why That Particular Look of Early Digipaint days of anime is the way it was, when you see it as an attempt at approximating Industry Established colour-schemes that just couldn't transfer properly in an age of New & Unfamiliar Tech, & without the advantage of the textures of real paint, animation cel and film-stock, what you "see" really is what you get, and nothing more.

Its all technical and this is just my musings based on what my eyeballs can observe, so take it with a pinch of salt, hahaha

Anyway, I put the drawings through with one of the OG backgrounds from BGC, + one I found on google. How do you think it looks?

Drawn when 36th anniversary of Bubblegum Crisis hit.

Surprisingly, drawing in Kenichi Sonoda's style of this time was a lot easier than I imagined. I guess practising the Sakura Wars style really got me tuned in on how proportions should go, plus I've always had a lot of Sonoda's 80s stuff in my inspirational folders.

This will be great when I get to draw pics of my TRPG group I'm GMing! (yes, we're playing a Bubblegum Crisis RPG game, by R. Talsorian. Its actually quite playable)

Devilman Lady (the anime one)

Sudden hellish urge to (semi-)revive this format again. Devilman Lady, or Devil Lady hits pretty Hard (but only the anime, everything about the OG manga just slid off my brain long ago lol)

Would highly recommend if you want to watch the journeys of The Most Suffering Woman Ever in Maximum Women's Toxicity Hours.

Tried to feel things out, but didn't quite go as I would've liked. Eh, at least I drew another Samus.

Which will be quite useful, as I go on to doing that comic I promised!

Being a Captain is Hard - Shanghai Combat Revue 1927

Finally something with our boy Wu Shuang. Its not a Sakura Wars if the captain is not having a hard time to some degree hahaha.

Poll #4: Comic Edition!

Hello everyone! 

Time for another poll, first time in a long time and I had an idea. For this time, I decided to challenge myself and try actually making more comics (short ones) for a change. 

Hopefully one I can finish in under 30 days or so, gives me a good incentive to actually make things simple

Keeping it to the things I've had ideas for; options are as follows:

Shanghai Revue Uniform

Need to pick up some slack. Will be doing more soon hopefully.

In the meantime, here are some small drawings of the uniform front and back. 

The mask and goggles mostly came about 'cause I thought it'd fit with my idea as proposed in my Wu Shuang drawing previously that the uniforms of the Shanghai Team is essentially made to a bit more protective (the jacket is more of a body-armor for example) and contain more redundant bits than other teams usually have, 'cause they wanted to be Extra careful as the first official anti-demon mech team for Republic of China. Kinda like those WW1 experimental armors. Plus it'd look cool, duh.

Also I'm thinking of finally settling their team name as "山河歌舞团" or (lit.) "Mountain and River Song and Dance Troupe". Since all the characters' names are meant to reference either mountains or rivers, "山河" itself being another term for the natural world, and also as a reference to Li Jinghui’s “Chinese Song and Dance Troupe and Wei Yingbo’s "Plum Blossom Troupe" of the 1920s-40s, which were some of the earliest more western-influenced musical theatres as well as popular music in China.
