Poll #3!

Time for another poll! 

This time I decided to go with something very different and unusual from the normal character art polls, because I am I guess just ontologically opposed to doing things that are popular (and sensible lol).

This be a good way of finally drawing one of these historical (& 1 folklore) characters I've always kept in the back of my mind. If all goes well perhaps I'll do more!

(They're of course not gonna look exactly like how these art-pieces depict them, images are just here to give a general idea!)

Qin & Han Dynasty Imperials

Contrary to popular belief, Chinese emperors and others in the imperial family would not have worn the more famous ceremonial Mianfu-robes during the Qin and much of Han Dynasty, but the more comparatively austere "Jūnxuán"(袀玄), which was a Qin invention, because they weren't into the Zhou-Etiquette informed Mianfu as Qin Kingdom then later Empire dedicated its state philosophy to Hanfeizi's Legalism.

(Which basically means Every Single Popular Depiction Of Qin Shihuang and Emperor Wu of Han you've likely seen are actually wrong hahaha)

The robes (likely a one-piece shenyi, or upper and lower garments separated) were described as being "Xuán"(玄) or a reddish-black, because Qin Dynasty's national colour was black due to the idea of the Five Phases Colour theory, where each Dynasty had its corresponding Element therefore colour (Zhou Dynasty being Fire, & Qin being Water). 

Other colours are reserved for the cuffs for the inner-robes for different seasons and occasions, with a white belt.

The headgear would have been a Tōngtiānguān (通天冠 AKA."Heaven-Linked Crown"), which was commonly worn by royalty (such as by Qin Shihuang himself(man being bowed to) on Sunjia Village's Han Dynasty pictorial brick-relief), or for the Western Han, a Chánɡɡuàn (长冠, AKA. "Long Crown"), 

The Changguan was actually designed by Liu Bang himself, after his former headgear he wore when he was a local law enforcement officer, and was used by the imperial family-members of the Western Han Dynasty ever since.

Generally everyone in the court wore this robe during ceremonies, which means the only way you could have differentiated ranks between all the officials and with the emperor himself would've been their headgear, or more reliably the sash worn on the belt that worked basically like a service-ribbon of today
(The Emperor's colours were two shades of yellow and red, btw). 

(Its quite similar to modern-day actually, with how all the politicians regardless of office just wear the same black two-piece suits all the time hahaha) 

The Mianfu would see its return during the early Eastern Han Dynasty with Emperor Ming and stuck around ever since until the Manchurian Qing.

Rescue Knight vs. Big Dragoon WIP

So a while back, you might remember I shared some preview thumbnails of a Rescue-Knight centric comic project. 

Now that we're basically almost done with July, I've been trying to pick up the pace, hopefully (& desperately) trying to get these done before November, while also working on Masters' Thesis 😬😬😬

A lot of things going on. Anyway, these are some of the pages from the later half of the comic, when its all just basically action. Shockingly enough I haven't usually done pages that are just purely action until now, so everything is still in that janky experimentation stage.

I am however open to all suggestions and comments, because hey you guys contribute a lot to what I'm doing already!

Decided to give a slight hair redesign for Yue Ying. Was never quite satisfied with the prior hairstyle and courtesy-name, so I wanted to try a new one.

Her courtesy-name is now "Songying"（嵩莺） rather than Taihang!

Getting back to doing this stuff again. 

One for Yedocia in Greco and Sino modes.

 Second for Chinese Imperials in Junxuan-robes ("袀玄") and Tongtianguan & Changguan respectively, which is btw what Chinese emperors wore during the Qin and half of Han Dynasty 

So if you ever see Emperors, such as Qin Shihuang, wearing the imperial Mianfu-robes you always see Chinese Emperors wearing... It's actually completely wrong because in history Qin Dynasty very specifically forbade it and replaced it with the austere Junxuan lol (its ok, even Chinese pop media barely represent this fact) 

Mianfu would make a proper come back only during the early Eastern Han Dynasty.

Yedocia Yen - June '22

God I haven't drawn Yedocia since the beginning of the year.

Been thinking for a while of experimenting with the idea of Yedocia being the same bright (but not sharp), perky self, but when the helmet is on the game-face turns on and she becomes, uh, rather less pleasant.

As voted by you guys, another new character bio for the Shanghai Combat Revue, that funny funny Sakura Wars OC team I have.

It was about time I actually introduce the Captain, the playable character himself, into the picture too.
Wanted to go a bit out of the box from the usual captains who are very much the hotblooded Red Ranger by making him instead, the Zhang Liang of the team. The Jiang Ziya and Wu Yong* of Sakura Wars. 

Or just the nerdy one lol. In my mind his role would basically not be for combat but for buffs, debuffs and complicated special attack setups, because I like to imagine whatever game existed for the Shanghai Team is the weird experimental spinoff handed off to a different team that's memorable but kinda very jank hahaha.

(*which he is named after, + Wu Qi of the Warring States period. All characters in the Shanghai Team are named after famous Chinese folk-heroes, see if you can catch them all!).

I will draw another Wu Shuang art soon enough as well to go along with this one!

I haven't been as active with all the various features as my tiers promise, but that is about to change!

This would be the first Request Thread, where you get to make an art request by commenting below!
The rule is I would choose 1-2 of the requests to draw, preferably keep it relatively simple.

Later on by the end of this month or start of the next, I will hold another poll as well, now that we have new people on the Awesome Primus Tier.

If everyone is OK with this arrangement, please do leave comment (as well as with your request)! 

Though I don't mind if you have any suggestions for improvement either. This is my first Patreon so there's still a lot of kinks to hammer out on my end.

Sketch dump #1

Hi, haven't really been posting art publicly as often this month unfortunately. Been busy with other stuff on the side. Hopefully I can pick up the pace as it goes, I thank you all for your patience.

For now, all I can really offer are the various sketches I have done, ideas I put on paper to see if I can later do something with them. There's quite a lot (prob not a good thing hahaha), hopefully I'll get a few of these finished sooner than later.

My apologies for not being able to do more updates at a brisker pace. Got nothing else to blame but myself, been working on multiple things at once too slow and too unorganized.

As thank you for your support, I've decided I can also share some of the comic projects I have going on, as an exclusive preview.

One of the project's I've been working on as of late has been a longer Rescue-Knight comic. It's thus far only written in Finnish, but I'll consider a translation when I finish with everything.

General premise is; What if Rescue-Knight fights Cruelty-is-the-Point, physical manifest.
