State of the Writer - Aug 31, 2018

First off, I want to thank everyone for their support. Knowing in the back of my head that there are people who care enough about me and my writing to support me each month has helped me get through the last few weeks.

You may have noticed lower story output from me this month, and I want to apologize to everyone who has certain expectations of me.

This has been a rough August. Early in the month I got hurt, badly enough that lying down and getting a good night of sleep was hard, let alone sitting at a computer desk for hours to write, or even moving around comfortably. Speaking of "moving," I also had to move this month, which kinda came almost out of nowhere. You can imagine how hard it is to move everything you own when you wake up in pain each morning. Thankfully I had friends who helped out tremendously, or it might have been all but impossible.

Even with support, though, this month dragged my emotions way, way down. I was worried for a while that I might not get better soon. It's difficult for me to write fun, bouncy, naughty stories when nothing feels fun or bouncy.

I even dropped my writing streak. 197 days in a row, ended in one night. I was really looking forward to 200...

Fortunately, my health is improving daily. For example, right now I'm sitting at my desk feeling very little discomfort, and I am waking up pain-free most days of the week. I can see the sun peeking over the horizon. Also, I have a story from my writing backlog that I can post today as the Patreon Story of the Month.

Unfortunately, I have a few patrons who haven't gotten their commissions yet. Anyone who is waiting on words from me will get them, I promise! I really want September to be a new dawn for me, by catching up on August, finishing September, and then hopefully also starting a more traditional commission queue.

Thanks again to everyone who has stuck with me through the worst August of my life, and I hope to make it up to you all soon and prove it was worth it!

EDIT: Also, other good news. From now on my Google Docs links should all be set to allow you fine folks to leave in-line comments. Like a particular part, find a dangling participle, or have a sweet suggestion for a rough draft? Highlight a piece of text, right click your highlight, and select Comment. Feedback is welcome!

CYOA - "Unpunished" Chapter Three

"Yeah, haste sounds like a good idea," I said to Lady Puro, then glanced back at Sir Slice. The lower half of his body was gone beneath a layer of multicolored rubber which continued to grow upward.

"You will never overcome the spirit of a true zaloph warrior!" Slice yelled. It didn't look like his spirit had much to do with the fight, though. He tried to swipe one of his big paws at the rubber creeping over his left thigh, and his claws came away from the useless effort with a brightly colored layer that started to spread to his wrist. The creature he'd so recently hacked at with his sword had mostly grown back her new head, which was blindly "watching" her victim succumb. Slice's fellow knights roared and charged to engage the other rubber creatures, spears held out in front of them.

Puro turned and trotted away to join her companion, who was holding a milky white orb in a paw and staring at it intently. Puro watched him pop it into his mouth, then blinked and looked back when she realized I hadn't joined her yet. "They're giving us a chance to escape," Puro she whispered loudly, "while we still can!" I really don't blame her for not sounding quite as polite as she did before.

I almost turned back to the zalophs, part of me thinking that there must have been something I could do. My logical side helpfully pointed out that I didn't have the slightest idea what I was up against, right at the same time Lady Puro followed her fellow fritz into the forest. I nearly took to the air, to soar right over the problem, except I'd lose track of Puro, I didn't know where I'd be flying to, and I wasn't sure if it was any safer in the sky than on the ground. I whispered a low, "Shit!" and ran after Puro.

Of course there was still time for one final, dramatic glance over my shoulder as I ran. I saw Sir Slice fall to his knees, hands trying to tear rubber from his face as it sealed over his eyes and started to pour down his mouth, drowning out his yelling. The rubber creature he'd fought stepped forward and hugged him against her chest, pressing his face into her breasts as she nuzzled the top of his head. I wasn't sure, but it kinda looked like Slice leaned into the touch.

And then the fight was out of sight, trees blocking my view, though the echoing of roars and shouts followed me. I turned my attention back to the fleeing fritzes, rushing to catch up. The foliage was thick enough overhead that it was quite a bit darker in the forest than it was in the clearing. Lady Puro's paws moved fast, her body sinuously curving to bob between trees and over roots, arcs of yellow electricity sizzling down her dark blue body. I was grateful for the light to guide me, since she was moving so quickly that I might have lost her immediately. I ran faster, bounding over a fallen log, pushing through bushes, and ducking under low branches.

Up ahead of Puro I could see purple light, which I figured out was the color of the other fritz's electricity when he said, "Right!" in a scratchy voice and turned in that direction. Puro was like blue and yellow water in a stream, instantly swiveling to follow. I admit, I was jealous of how easy she made it look, since I tore up a chunk of the forest floor with my claws when I made the same turn.

More importantly, I spotted why we had made the turn. If we'd continued straight, we'd have bounded right into a half-dozen more of those rubber things! They changed from green to swirling colors as we dodged them by a few dragon lengths, the bipedal ones opening their arms wide for hugs.

"How many more are there?!" I shouted, panting.

"Possibly hundreds," Puro said, her voice a calm crackle of sound that nearly made me stagger. It was like hearing a bad cell connection on a phone right up against my ear, rather than hearing someone shout to me from ten feet ahead. "Please try not to call more of their attention to us than necessary." As she spoke, I could see the electricity around her fade slightly, as if she was using up power to talk that way.

I refrained from loudly apologizing, saving my breath for running.

"Right again!" the leading fritz called out, and that time I noticed his voice wasn't just scratchy, he was using the same magic trick as Puro to speak; it made sense, since he was still holding the white orb between his jaws. We turned to the right, and I managed to do so a little more gracefully that time.

"Orius, slowly veer left as soon as we can," Lady Puro ordered.

"Can't, right again!" was the nearly immediate response, and again we turned. We narrowly avoided another small pack of the creatures, one of which reached toward me with wavering tendrils that were nearly invisible until they brushed the air inches from my side. I curled my tail away from the colorful limb and ran harder, a shiver running down my spine.

"We're being herded," Puro sent, her pseudo-voice still quite calm.

"Drones aren't smart enough to do that!" Orius blurted, his purple light ebbing and wavering as he spoke.

"True," Puro agreed. "Which means we're probably in deep trouble."

I heard sound building ahead, a roar of sorts that made me wonder if we'd gotten so turned around that we'd ended up back where we stopped. There was another, smaller clearing ahead, and Orius skidded to a stop soon after he burst into the daylight. Puro trotted past him a few steps before stopping, and I saw why an instant later.

We were back up against another rock wall along our right side, and straight ahead and curling to our left was a wide stream, four or five dragon lengths across. It was fed by a steep cascade of rapids to our right, which filled the clearing with a dull roar of all those gallons of surging water, constantly bashing against the many rocks of the rapids.

A constant haze of water vapor filled the air, and Lady Puro and Orius both twitched, small arcs of electricity sizzling off the tips of their tails. "Are you okay?" I asked, panting, voice low.

"Can't-" was all Orius got out before he jerked in place, a jolt of purple ran down his body.

"We must find a way to cross without using our powers," Puro said, using her actual vocal cords. She didn't sound quite so calm anymore. "And quickly!"

Her words were perfectly punctuated by a laugh from the forest that was loud enough to carry over the sound of the rapids. Orius growled and quickly moved to position himself between Lady Puro and the tall, slender silhouette that began to walk out of the forest behind us. The orb in his teeth had turned pitch black.

"Go, Nia!" Lady Puro reared behind Orius up to point beyond the river, her eyes wide. "There's no time!"

Should I remove commissions from Patreon?

I'm thinking about removing commissions from Patreon and using Paypal to directly take commissions instead, as part of changing my Patreon to Charge Up Front.

Pro: there will be a queue instead of slots that can fill up. Filled slots can prevent some people from getting the chance to commission something.

Con: current commissioners would no longer be guaranteed one commission per month.

What do you think? If you have more pros and cons, arguments in either direction, etc, your opinion is very valuable to me, so please reply below!

CYOA - "Unpunished" Chapter 2

(Sorry for the delay in continuing the Choose Your Own Adventure! I intend to update more than once a month in the future.)

I glanced back at the corner of the room one more time, at the small person lurking there in the shadows, and they hadn't moved one bit. I almost asked if they were going to follow, too, then decided that they probably knew what was going on better than me, so they didn't need me telling them what to do. I turned to follow Lady Puro out into the cave, trotting across the natural rock floor toward the uneven circle of sunlight outside.

I didn't know what to expect, so the normalcy of coming out into a forest clearing was almost disappointing. Typical green leaves on branches attached to tree trunks, grass and flowers, ferns and shrubs, and glimpses of a blue sky through the foliage. I'm no botanist, but it looked like it might have been a forest on any number of continents back on Earth.

Well, except for the company.

Just outside the cave I spotted Lady Puro, who was rushing out to talk to another fritz, who was a little smaller and darker. They were both naked aside from a belt with pouches on it. Seeing Puro rustle inside of one made me pat at my vest pocket by reflex, to see if I still had all my belongings. That's when I realized I no longer had my vest, or anything else.

I didn't really have time to worry about losing another SD card. I looked past the fritzes to see six more lions like Sir Slice were lined up just beyond, each with spears, shields, and white armor not quite as gleaming as their captain. They were mounted on big, white birds with black markings; they sort of looked like if you crossed an ostrich with a seagull, then made it even bigger. Another bird was standing nearby, its saddle empty.

The six knights were facing away from the cave, their spears held at the ready. On the ground in front of them was Sir Slice, with his sword in both hands. "Let them come," he said, with a disgusted chuckle. "They'll taste fine zaloph steel this day!"

Lady Puro shook her head, then when she spotted me she stepped closer and spoke in a low voice. "Our backs are against the wall here," she said, before rearing up onto her back legs to glance left and right. "I wish we had more time to speak, but we should flee while we have the chance."

I looked around, too, and I didn't see squat. I had about a zillion questions, but, "What exactly are we supposed to be fleeing from?" was the one that came out first.

That's about when I noticed the smell. I flared my nostrils and inhaled deeply, and my first thought was that someone was inflating party animals, because it smelled like balloons. It was faint at first, even with that big whiff, but instead of getting used to it, the scent seemed to be getting stronger.

"Those!" Puro whispered harshly, pointing her nose toward the knights.

A dark shape emerged from behind a tree on the far side of the clearing. At first I thought it was black, and then it stepped into the light, and a kaleidoscope of iridescent colors rippled across its glossy surface. The creature stood on two legs like the zalophs, though it was shorter, more lithe, and it had a long, poofy tail. I swallowed when I noticed that it didn't seem to have any eyes, and instead of a mouth there was a white, toothy grin drawn onto its snout.

I changed "it" in my mind to "she" when I noticed her breasts and the lips of her sex, which the shiny coating over her body did more to accentuate than to hide.

"Alpha Strike!" I nearly jumped at how loud Sir Slice had shouted those two words, moving in a blur as he crossed the entire distance between himself and his target in one leap. He brought his sword down in a sharp slash, diagonally across the creature's torso. A gash appeared on her chest from her left shoulder to her right hip, one breast hanging askew. A flood of multicolored liquid burbled out of her wound and onto the forest floor, forming a puddle that was all the colors of the rainbow.

The smell got much stronger. My first thought had been right: it was rubber.

She giggled, face unmoving. The cut across her body visibly started to shrink right before my eyes. As I watched I finally realized she wasn't coated in that slick, shiny rubber; she was rubber! She reached out for Sir Slice and walked closer, her arms held too wide to be seen as aggression. I was pretty sure that all she wanted to do was hug him.

Even a weird, alien dragon like me could tell that accepting that hug would be a mistake.

Sir Slice growled and broadened his stance before swinging his greatsword in two lightning fast strikes, once at her neck and then down across her right arm. I gasped as the creature's head rolled off her shoulders, it and her hand both falling to the forest floor. Gouts of colorful liquid shot out of both stumps.

"Mmm," she said, just loud enough for me to hear at my distance. The head and hand both melted away into puddles as her neck and wrist bulged, replacements already starting to regrow into place. She took another step closer.

My heart was racing. The entire exchange had taken only a few seconds, and it felt like it had been both an instant and an eternity at the same time. I'd been raised on Earth, after all, so I'd only ever seen "magic" used for fae illusions, minor human charms, and dragon flight, all powered by the ley lines. This was some real sword and sorcery shit, and I still had no idea why I was even there!

"Sir!" one of the zalophs shouted in concern. At first I assumed it was because of the other dark silhouettes that were clambering out of the forest around us, some taller and more muscular, two of them shorter and feral shaped.

I second-guessed that assumption when I saw Sir Slice take a staggering step backward, the puddle of rubber "blood" he'd chopped out of his opponent defying gravity as it flowed up his legs. "Foul spawn!" he cried out, then he gasped and shook his head. "Remove your filth from me!"

A paw on my leg made me jerk in place, and I looked down into Lady Puro's glowing yellow eyes. Electricity danced between her whiskers continuously. "Come, Niamathana, we must make haste!"

CYOA - "Unpunished" Chapter 1

(Okay, here's the first chapter of the Choose Your Own Adventure that you helped unlock by being patrons! All comments, discussion, thoughts, alternative voting options you would have preferred, etc. are welcome; they'll help inform me for future chapters. Also, feedback is important, because it'll help make me think this was a good idea. :D )

This is the story of my amazing adventure on an alien world, full of action, suspense, mystery, heroes, victories, failures, and sacrifice. Oh, and bondage. There were also a lot of really long walks, like most fantasy quests, but I'll do my best to gloss over those. Trust me, you aren't missing much.

You might be wondering, "This story is called 'Unpunished?' So, does that mean the sexy dragoness isn't going to get punished? Why am I even reading this?!" First of all, I don't need punishment, thank you very much. Second of all, sometimes I get it anyway. You'll have to keep reading if you want to know any more than that.

My sordid tale begins fifty feet above the beautiful Russell-Carpenter wedding. That's where a light blue dragoness was treading air, her gold horns and claws glinting in the sunlight. She was looking down the viewfinder of a camera that was pointed at the white and black blob of guests on the grass below, near a grand, stone church. For those of you still catching up, that dragoness was me, Nia, amateur photographer and entrepreneur. If you're thinking about getting some aerial photography for your wedding or business, a dragon will get you better pictures than a human controlled drone nine times out of ten. Just saying.

Not everyone seemed to agree with this objective fact, however, and I was well on my way toward being Nia, amateur photographer and failed entrepreneur. Rent was a month behind, my LeyNet bill was stacking up, most of my meals were ramen packets, and I didn't have any other jobs lined up after the Russell-Carpenter wedding.

I tried to put all those thoughts out of my mind and focus on getting some candid pictures. The real money shot would come later, when the whole wedding party stood together and smiled up into the camera. That wouldn't be for another hour, though, so I made a wide circle back toward the ground while reviewing the last couple shots I took.

The screen let me know that my first SD card was almost full, so I took out my secondary from a chest pocket on my vest, intending to swap them as soon as I landed. What I failed to remember was that I'd bought a cheap extra backup on sale, and stuffed it into the same pocket.

And that's how the Russell-Carpenters ended up with a brand new 128GB SD card inside of their wedding cake.

I landed nearby and practically jogged to the big, multi-tiered monster covered in frosting. I winced when I found the point of entry; If I'd been off by two inches, it would have smacked the bride's little figurine right in the face.

"Don't even think about it," a snotty voice said. I jumped in place and turned to see the bride's sister, Agnes. The sneering woman somehow made her beautiful teal bridesmaid dress look like an eyesore.

I shook my head. "Oh, no, I wouldn't touch it until-"

"Good," Agnes snapped. "Just do your job." She'd helped out her sister by hiring me, and everything had gone smoothly until I told Agnes that I'd only started my business three months ago. Luckily that was after she'd already paid me a deposit, because from that point on she treated me like I was a leper. A leper who liked to steal cake, apparently.

"Absolutely," I said, sitting back on my haunches and raising the camera to aim it at her. "Smile!"

She looked taken aback, then used her hands to smooth out her dress and put on a very convincing fake smile. I took the picture, then pretended to review it. "Oh, yes," I told her, "that came out lovely."

"I'm sure it did," she said, then waved at someone over my shoulder. "Dolores!" Off she went, and I couldn't have been happier.

I avoided her as I walked around the wedding, doing my best to not step on anyone's tail while taking more pictures. That's a figure of speech, in this case; most of the guests were human, with only two other dragons, and a half-dozen fae. For the most part I interacted with others as little as possible, aside from a cute pixie kid who landed on my head just long enough for her parents to scoop her up and apologize.

I was still trying to decide what to do about the special ingredient I'd accidentally added to the cake when I made a fateful decision. You see, most wedding parties don't want really long distance shots that make their special day look like a tiny, insignificant dot on a map. Still, some people liked them, so I kept offering them just in case, and it was best to take those shots before some guests started leaving early. Last time I was already in the air, I'd been so caught up with thoughts about which bill I could let go for another month that I'd forgotten to go higher for the wide view. So, rather than trying to tell Agnes about the chunk of plastic and silicon hidden beneath layers of frosting, I stepped far enough away from the wedding to not disturb anyone and took off again.

I was hardly thirty feet up when someone gasped and said, "Up there!" The voice was kind of high pitched, so my first thought was that a little human girl was surprised to see me overhead. That is, until I looked up, and saw a bright yellow hole high in the sky, and the orange shape that came flying out of it.

No, not orange, burning. Burning, and faintly screaming.

It hit me that I was the only one airborne and remotely close, and I only hesitated half a second before I pumped my wings hard, shooting forward to intercept. I glanced down long enough to get my bearings, and what I saw made me swallow; yes, there was a small pond on the church grounds, but it was further away than I remembered.

I didn't know if I could grab them, break into a glide, and carry us both into the pond at a safe speed. I sure as hell didn't know what they were, where they'd come from, or what could tear a hole in the sky. All I did know is that if I didn't act, there was a 100% chance they'd hit the ground.

I closed in, and part of me shouted that was I totally nuts, and somehow that didn't stop me from reaching out to try and grab the Unidentified Burning Object. My fingers met a wet surface, and whatever or whoever they were, they stopped screaming. They looked at me with huge, white, pupiless, bloodshot eyes, and croaked, "You're the one."

I had just enough time to realize the fire wasn't hot before everything blinked away.

I never did get my SD card back.

------

"Kup."

"Buh?" I asked, my brain filled with fading memories of blackness, yellow streaks, and an endless fields of stars. I tried to open my eyes and lift my head, and nothing seemed to happen.

"A cup!"

I don't wear a bra, so I had no idea why someone would be shaking my shoulder and talking to me about one. "I dohn..." My voice was a croak. My body caught up with my brain enough to open and close my mouth a few times. It felt gummy and dry. I managed to open my eyes.

There was a dark blue ferret staring at me with small, glowing eyes. It was so close that our noses were nearly touching.

"Wake up!" someone else shouted in a gruff, masculine. It sounded like he was getting sick of repeating themselves.

"She is awake," the ferret in front of me said much more softly, and a yellow spark of electricity danced from one of her whiskers to another, then to another. She backed away slowly, revealing a large, dark space around us.

"Good, now send this one back and get me a real dragon. Harrumph." He didn't just make the noise, he actually said "harrumph."

I groaned and sat up slowly, putting a paw on my head as my vision swam. That was around the time that I started to remember that ferrets can't talk, aren't blue, and don't emit electricity. "What's going on?" I managed to ask, voice still weak.

"That's what I want to know," the bossy guy grumbled.

I shook my head one more time and took in my surroundings. I was inside of some kind of big, black, pyramid-shaped room, the walls glinting in the light of the four torches planted into the dirt floor. One side of the room had a huge arch that lead out into a more natural looking cave. I guessed that the room was made of onyx, or obsidian, or something like that. I honestly didn't spend much time worrying about that, because I was way more focused on the fact that I wasn't alone.

The ferret was looking up at me, but she didn't have far to look up, considering she was the size of a large dog. She was mostly royal blue, with some white patches and markings, and was clearly smiling at me. The other voice in the room had come from a lion in armor standing nearby.

To be clear, he was standing on two legs. Okay, yeah, I know that this isn't a huge revelation to everyone anymore, not after the stuff that happens later in this story, but at the time I'd only ever seen two legged animals in cartoons. And I definitely had never seen a seafoam green lion with plate mail, a two handed sword, and gills before.

"I am Lady Puro of the Fritz High Council," the ferret said, pulling my attention back to her. She gestured with one of her paws and said, "And this is Sir Slice, Knight Captain of the Zaloph Kingdom." The lion just huffed, his whiskers twitching.

I wondered if he was a zaloph, not a lion, and then decided it didn't matter, because it was all just a dream. I smiled, impressed by how interesting the dream was, and... then I froze. Whenever I notice I'm inside of a dream, I always wake up right afterward.

It didn't feel like I was waking up.

There was a quiet crack as electricity arced in the space between Puro's chin and her chest. I realized she'd been waiting for me to reply right as she asked, "May we have the honor of your name?"

"Uh, yeah, I'm Niamathana," I said, getting up onto all four paws. "Call me Nia. And, tell me, what the hell is going on?"

"That's what I want to know!" the lion repeated himself. "Their Royal Majesties were expecting you to summon a real dragon when they supported this plan, not... This!" He waved his paw at me.

"So, what am I, then?" I asked, lashing my tail. "A..." I trailed off as I noticed a third person in the room, near one of the back corners. It looked like a small person with a tuxedo and butterfly wings? I couldn't make him out very well in the torchlight.

"The burning thing!" I shouted suddenly, the torch's flames reminding me. I looked back at Lady Puro. "Did I, did I save it?"

"Burning thing?" she asked, head tilting. "I don't-"

"Sir Slice!" a voice called, echoing through the cave. "They found us!"

Slice hefted his sword into the air and grinned. "Now we do things my way!" He dashed away, moving faster than I expected in that armor, clanking quietly with each step.

Lady Puro turned to follow him, looking back over her shoulder at me long enough to call out, "Come, we mustn't let ourselves be cornered in here!"

I hesitated, overwhelmed. I wondered if pinching yourself to wake up really works. I also wondered if maybe, just maybe, it wasn't a dream? "Seriously, what the hell is going on?!"

Choose Your Own Adventure Heroes

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach the first goal of $250 per month! I'll be starting the Choose Your Own Adventure series within the next few weeks.

Please vote to let me know who you want the main characters to be in the CYOA. Both of them will run into their fair share of naughty bondage experiences, though the hero(ine) will probably run into a bit more. Feel free to vote for as many options as you like.

I want a duo of one male and one female, with an approximately human-sized, flightless hero(ine), and their flying sidekick about the size of a large cat. I'm aiming for one dragon and one furry/animal, and I didn't want both to be quadruped/feral.

My baseline thought had been an anthro male dragon and his sassy female foxfairy companion, hence the layout of this poll.

If you have alternative thoughts, please share them? I'd love to hear them, thanks!

Choose Your Own Adventure voters

Should $1 per month patrons be allowed to vote to decide what happens next in the upcoming Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) series?

I'm split on this decision, so I wanted to let patrons who pledge $3 or more per month chime in on this! If you have any arguments one way or another, please feel free to reply, or message me privately if you prefer.

Thanks!

Patreon - Two weeks and counting!

Hello, dear patrons! I want to thank each and every one of you for joining us on this amazing journey into the kinky unknown! It means a lot that so many of you are willing to be part of bringing my stories to life. <3

In just two short weeks we're already getting close to the first goal of $250 per month. I've done some brainstorming for the Choose Your Own Adventure campaign that will start at $250, starring an unsuspecting dragon who gets summoned to help save another world. What kinds of terrible, perverse ordeals will he have to overcome on his quest? The best kinds!

Now that we've all had a chance to settle in, I'd like to know if there's any feedback you'd like to share? Feel free to reply here, or message me instead if you'd prefer some privacy.

Thanks again, everyone!
