Onward to Volume 9!
2024-05-19 08:26:57 +0000 UTC View PostSorry folks! I've been busy the entire week prepping for a local convention.
I'll try make up for it by doing one of the extras from 7th volume together with the newest chapter next week, but for now my schedule's unfortunately a bit too packed this week.
Again, sorry!

I decide to go scanlating volume 8 for now.
This will be available for everyone publicly in a month or so! I want to stock up 4 early releases for Stage II supporters.
Man, but this volume is going deep into the story--more than the usual anyway.

At any rate, it seems like we are entering a serious arc here...
2024-03-16 16:09:22 +0000 UTC View PostSeems like the old scanlation team is getting back to top gear and releasing their own scanlation again back to regular schedule.
I don't really want to step on their toes, to be honest. I'm not sure if I'd continue scanlating FukuKiru.
I'm either going to scanlate volume 8 instead, or just quit scanlating FukuKiru and change manga entirely.
If it ends up being the latter, I want to know if there's a manga you guys want me to scanlate--perhaps something that you really like in the past but stopped being translated for some reason.
Please let me know in the comments!

Probably my last chapter for this volume, if not this manga. Enjoy!
2024-03-08 15:05:53 +0000 UTC View PostEventually, night came.
Last night, Ruler had stayed over at the Fortress of Millenia after she had made sure it would not be a problem.
For his part, Sieg managed to have a good night sleep without seeing that dream again—perhaps because he did not use any more Command Spell. When he woke up, he saw the holy woman smiling next to his bed.
"Good morning, Sieg."
"…How long have you been here for?"
He asked timidly.
"About 30 minutes. You look like you've had a good night sleep—that is most heartening."
Sieg thought the same. He also thought that waking up with someone staring at you wasn't exactly good for the heart.
"I suppose this means your heart is faring well now."
Not at this rate, he thought.
"Now, then. We are proceeding as we've discussed yesterday, yes?"
Ruler said with a tone that did not allow for any objection before ripping the sheet off Sieg. And of course, Rider was there, sleeping while entangled with Sieg's legs. He was sleeping so soundly, it was hard to think he was a Servant.
"Fufufu, I made my presence as a Servant quite clear, yet he maintain such a slovenly appearance nonetheless… I'm not quite sure if he is that confident or simply that careless."
"Probably the latter." Sieg said.
"Hmph. I did wake up when I felt a Servant's presence! I just went back to sleep because I couldn't be bothered."
Rider said as he stretched out his arm and opened his eyes.
"It's simply a Servant's duty to alwaysguard their Master instead of sleeping. You're a Servant to begin with—you don't even need sleeping!"
"Yeah? Well, you were also sleeping! And I heard from Master how you fell asleep immediately after you two met!"
"Th-That was because my body reached its limit! And I didn't fell asleep! I just almost passed out because I had not had anything to eat!"
"That's actually worse."
"…I know."
Ruler blushed as she coughed to clear her throat.
Nobody spoke for a while.
Then Sieg carefreely yawned as he peeked the clear skies outside through the small window.
The weather would probably be clear the whole day—at least until the sun set. Yes… there might even be mist coming tonight.
In fact, Sieg wanted it to come.
He could not remember anything about Assassin of Black—their appearance, what weapons they wielded… not a single thing.
No—actually, he did remember one thing.
When they took a single life—a single homunculus' life. It was a meaningless, senseless death. That homunculus died merely because she was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
This intense, boiling emotion he was feeling—perhaps this was hatred. A burning fury that rejected someone's entire being, and the twisted joy from wishing sorrow and despair unto them.
"Sieg? What's wrong?"
"..It's nothing."
When the time to face Assassin of Black come, Sieg decided that he would manifest Saber within his body once again.
However, there were things that Sieg have yet to realize. Like how Assassin of Black themself could not forgive Sieg for injuring them. And how while Assassin's Master was no magus, she was a monster who lacked morality and cared not of common sense.
※※※※※
With efficiency in mind, they took their breakfast together with the other homunculi. The fortress itself had a large space that had functioned as a messroom for the homunculi—however, their numbers had abated after the previous large-scale battle. What was once a bustling space had been reduced into a dull one where no homunculus would even have any small talk. A strange sight, without a single rustle among everyone there.
Sieg sat right next to Rider and in front of Ruler.
"Are you eating, Rider?"
"Yup. Time to replenish some prana.♪"
Rider hummed as he began eating the food made by the cooking-specialized homunculi. He munched on the bread dipped into a potage soup, looking very happy, before smiling and yelling "So delish'!"
Sieg thought to himself that maybe Rider simply wanted to eat for the sake of enjoying it alone.
In front of them was Ruler, who was also eating with no less gusto.
"We need to make sure we eat plenty for our plan today!"
Sieg thought to himself that maybe Ruler's just hungry.
"You as well, Sieg—please eat up!"
"Y-Yeah."
With that said, it was not like he could taste them—compared to normal people, Sieg's sense of taste was exceedingly weak. He could tell the difference between food with powerful taste and bland ones, but he doubted he could tell the difference between a glue and cream sauce.
There wasn't any special reason for this—he was simply born this way. After all, giving palate to a homunculus meant only to be prana battery would be pointless.
Which was why Sieg did not have much interest in the act of eating.
"Gimme seconds!"
"…This feels pointless to say, but you are a Servant, right?"
The server homunculus said as he prepared another serving for Rider.
"It's tasty! So who cares!"
"Indeed—all the more so for those who actually do need to eat… Perhaps I should get seconds as well…"
"…You're also a Servant, right?"
"My case is unique—there are various circumstances that makes it necessary for me to consume food. Also, this pot-au-feuis simply fantastic."
"That's an eintopf, not a pot-au-feu."
"…Eh? Wait, what? I'm sure this is a pot-au-feu, though…?"
"No, it's an eintopf for sure."
"No, this can't be anything else other than a pot-au-feu."
"It's an eintopf."
"No, it's a pot-au-feu."
Jeanne insisted that it was a pot-au-feu, while homunculus firmly asserted that it was an eintopf. Meanwhile, Rider ended up stealthily getting another serving for himself as the two was busy arguing.
Soon, thanks to the homunculi around overhearing their argument, the eintopf faction finally reigned supreme.
…Thought both pot-au-feu and eintopf actually had nearly identical ingredients and recipes—the difference was practically in name only.
"But it's a pot-au-feu…"
"It's an eintopf." "It's definitely an eintopf." "It can't be anything other than an eintopf." "The creator of the dish called it an eintopf to begin with." "Who cares, it's delicious either way." "Wait, who just took the last portion?"
The quarrel soon got louder and louder. And Sieg still couldn't taste any of his food.
But strangely, somehow he found it delicious nonetheless.
※※※※※
Once the noisy breakfast was over, Ruler spoke to Sieg.
"Now then. Shall we prepare for today's outing?"
"Outing…? To where?"
Ruler slightly pouted when she heard what Sieg said.
"Have you forgotten what we talked about yesterday already?"
"No, I remember. Just… It's not even noon yet."
So far, Assassin had always made their appearance around night time. There would be no point searching for them in the middle of the day.
"I want you to grasp the city's layout during the day, Sieg. When push comes to shove, it would not do if you end up getting lost. You never explored the city before, right?"
Upon hearing that, Sieg began reminiscing of what he had experienced so far, few as they were. Indeed, he never went out to the city itself before. From the moment he was born inside the fortress, his whole life was spent as a prana battery—it was only a few days ago when he actually stepped his foot outside for the first time.
"Yeah, that makes sense. Will you show me around, then?"
"HEYYY——! NOT FAIR! LET ME COME! LET ME COME AS WELL!"
Rider protested as he fumed and stomped on the ground.
"…A Servant following us around would only render the whole plan moot."
"Hnnngh…! Th-Then next time around, you're taking a walk with me, Master!"
Rider said, hanging onto Sieg's side.
"No, I think you'll just get bored if you walk around with me… What if you ask someone else?"
"Hey, Ruler, I get to hit him for that, right? I know he's my Master, but still, right?"
"Indeed, not even I can defend that."
Rider then proceeded to chop the top of Sieg head while pouting. Sieg, for his part, couldn't help but felt that he was being unreasonable—but against a united front like that, he unfortunately had no chance of victory.
After being told to wait in front of the fortress' main gate, Sieg was currently overlooking the expanding view of the entire city. Trifas was a small city, with only a population of twenty thousands people—but already Sieg could not wrap his head around that amount of people.
Twenty thousands individuals makes up this city of Trifas. And even more than that makes up Romania… Europe… and eventually, this very planet.
Humanity. A mind boggling number of more than six billions individuals, neither good nor evil.
—A number beyond imagination.
About 90 percent of those individuals would never ever meet each other. And the same goes with Sieg—he would not meet more than perhaps a thousand or so people in his lifetime.
If "world" was simply a majestic phrase made up by humanity, and if what an individual could see were only themselves as well as that which was woven by others, then perhaps—no one ever truly saw what the world actually was?
"…Hm."
An intriguing line of thought, to be sure. Among those that Sieg knew, the one who would be well-acquinted about such a topic would be—
"I'm sorry I made you wait, Sieg."
Sieg turned and saw Ruler, who had changed into a civilian clothes to wear while walking around the city.
"We still have quite some time left. Shall we, then?"
"Yeah. I'll be in your care."
"Likewise!"
Ruler grabbed Sieg by the arm and began walking excitedly, as he simply followed her along.
"Say, Ruler. While we're at this… I was wondering if I could ask you about something."
"Of course. What is it?"
She said, tilting her head. Sieg then explained what he had been thinking before, before asking her a question.
"Just what… is the world?"
"Hm. That's quite a deep question."
Ruler smiled, somehow looking like she was having fun. She then entangled her fingers with Sieg's and turned towards him.
"Everyone knows what the world is—they would either learn about it, or simply accept it as part of reality. Yet if you think about it, no one ever really saw what the world truly is. They simply take themselves as well as everything surrounding them as the world. Much like a king reigning over his country."
"But… doesn't that just sound strange?"
"Not quite. Humans live their life in a compromise between two worlds—one containing themselves, and the ever expanding world outside of it. Humans are solitary, yet they're connected with others. That's how they could grieve when a tragedy befell someone else. There are, of course, those who cannot compromise—those who only have faith in the world they belong in and utterly reject the world outside, or those who are trying to bring about change."
"And would you say… they're evil?"
"Let's see… They are certainly not the norm, but I personally do not believe them to be evil. Everyone wants to the world to change one way or another—and if it's for the better, then the world would change."
"So the world is something that no one can actually see or feel—something that's intangible?"
"Yes. And yet it exists nonetheless."
The world existed—the world was. And if each individual simply lived their whole live all by themselves, conflict would cease to exist. But that would also meant no one would ever connect with one another.
"Then… do you think something like eternal peace is impossible?"
"For now. But… perhaps, one day, someone would think on how make it happen. And if they come up with a wonderful way to do so … I'm sure everyone would follow along with their ideal."
"That… sounds kind of sad."
"Does it? I think that if the world were to cease to exist… that is, if all more than six billions individuals in this planet simply exists for the sake of existing… would be even sadder."
Ruler muttered so, with a complex expression. Sieg, for his part, could not comprehend why it would be such a huge tragedy if everyone were to simply live all by themselves until the end.
Yet still, he would like to understand one day.

Double chapter this week for Stage II supporters!
This chapter's about vintage and older clothes!
Looking for Rider was a simple matter with Ruler's help—as it turned out, they were currently gazing at the sky on top of the fortress' partially destroyed viewing platform.
Rider had most likely detected Sieg's presence already, yet they were still sullenly turning away.
"…What?"
"Uh, I… How do I say this…"
After hesitating for a while, Sieg approached Rider and stood next to them.
"I'm sorry. I won't say something like that ever again."
"Something like what?"
"…You're my Servant, and I'm your Master. I didn't mean to make light of what we have. I was just… I didn't want you to worry."
"Worry about what?"
"Like I said before… There's just no need for you to follow after me even if I happen to die. I don't want you to worry about that."
Rider raised an eyebrow—their displeasure at those words were plain to see on their face.
"And I'm saying you're an idiot for that. As far as I'm concerned, you're all that matters for me. Of course I'll follow after you!"
After all, such was the relationship between a Master and a Servant—such was what Astolfo truly believed. Their loyalty was simply absolute… but there was something more to it.
It took far too long, but Sieg finally realized just how much of an ideal Servant Rider was. Not in terms of their strength, but of their entire being… Of how noble and dazzling Rider was.
And that was precisely why Sieg could not possibly involve Rider in his own recklessness.
"I'm not sure if that's something I should be happy hearing… but thank you, Rider. I've taken your words to my heart."
Sieg's answer immediately changed Rider's expression. Looking at them now, one could almost be reminded of a dog wildly swinging its tail around.
"W-Well, I guess at least I should be happy that you care about me that much. However! I'm still against you becoming the decoy! Following Archer's plan means we will basically need to be really, reallyseparated, right? We can't really waste any of your Command Spell, so you can't even summon me immediately to your side with it!"
"So, about that…"
Sieg hesitated as he looked away. Getting a bad feeling from that, Rider swooshed right up close next to him.
"Go on."
"Ruler said… she has an idea."
"Okay… What is it, then?"
Rider's eyes were aimed at Sieg sternly, and as he was about to speak…
"If I follow along as a decoy as well, I can always watch over him. All problems solved."
"…What she said."
Ruler suddenly showed herself on top of the viewing platform as well, seamlessly joining in the conversation.
"Uh, what do you meaaan?! Hello?! You're a Servant too, in case you forgot!"
"Indeed, but the method of my summoning was a bit… peculiar. Due to that, I do not have a genuine spiritual form—this is an actual, physical body."
Ruler used the body of Laeticia to act on the physical world, and as a result, her existence was almost as that of a human.
Particularly in regards to appetite and the need to sleep—while Ruler could get by without for several hours, at a certain point it could actually damage her spirit.
In this particular situation, however, it was actually a benefit.
"Basically, by suppressing your spirit, you can effectively suppress your presence as a Servant as well?"
"Indeed. By doing so, we reduce the risk by half. And if we can defend against Assassin's first strike, we can pin them down from multiple sides afterward."
"Master…?"
"I'm grateful for the idea… but I'm a bit worried about this 'suppressing your spirit' thing. I'm opposed to it."
Indeed, that was the main problem—suppressing her spirit would mean bringing forth Laeticia's physical body.
"Indeed, my abilities would be no different than a normal human in that situation. So the question is how quick I can turn back into a Servant in case of a surprise attack."
"Well that's just unfair for Laeticia, then! Nope, I'm against this, nope nope nooope!"
Rider was swinging their fist around, as Sieg nodded simultaneously.
"Yes, I also think it's not necessarily the best of ideas."
Ruler said with a troubled face. Sieg and Rider tilted their head in tandem upon hearing that.
"What do you mean?"
"I've said this before already, but Laeticia's consciousness right now is mixed with mine. Normally, she's letting me be in control while having her own consciousness sleep, but…"
One could also say that Laeticia was basically an audience currently watching a movie—observing otherworldly beings through Jeanne's perspective.
And as an audience, Laeticia would not have any part on how the movie would go. And no matter what she thought about the movie itself, she would keep it hidden inside her heart. However, when Sieg had announced his intention on becoming the decoy, she had spoken up from deep within.
"Then, how about this?"
"Sigh… I see. Alright, then what's Laeticia saying right now?"
"Well, she's been resolutely silent the entire time ever since she suggested that idea… Though I can't say I don't understand why."
"Ah…"
Rider turned towards Sieg, as if they finally understood something. Sieg himself was still deep in thoughts with a troubled expression, not looking at Rider or Ruler.
"So, what do we do?"
"I can do this alone."
Sieg said boldly while feigning ignorance. By this point, he had probably realized it—and the same goes for the other two.
"Ahh, you're such a bonehead! I mean, I want to support what my Master wants to do, but still…"
Slowly but surely, Rider was beginning to give in.
"Then I suppose we simply need to accompany Sieg, after all. We will probably be a bit of a burden, but let's do our best!"
And Ruler herself, for her part, was even more boneheaded than Sieg was.
Only 2 more days left until the Yggdmillenia and their Servants would begin their attempt to bring down Assassin of Black.
※※※※※
At a place further within the bowels of the ancient city Trifas, there lived hundreds of those who had fallen by society's wayside. At one of its corner was a place once used by a back-alley doctor—and now it was being temporarily occupied by Rikudou Reika and Assassin of Black.
This place was beyond the attention of most magi—for no matter how fallen they might be, magi are magi. They would never have anything to do with such a place.
An old bed with broken springcoils creaked loudly—after years of use, its condition had deteriorated so much that Reika's body always hurt all over when she woke up on it.
But it's not like she could rent a hotel instead. A bunch of magi had been searching for them ever since they stepped into the land of Romania. Reika already had to abandoned many house in Sighișoara alone.
They were able to evade capture not only because of Assassin. Perhaps Reika herself possessed a sort of animal instinct, as she always decided to abandon a house immediately before a bunch of magi would arrive to investigate it. Still, it was not all bad. This place was certainly inferior in many aspects compared to the average house, but there was a degree of order here. The people around here would never sell her out. Not even though some might know of the existence of magi.
It was due to a certain law here—nobody says anything, nobody knows anything, and nobody meddles in other's business. Now, being human, people do make mistakes from time to time—for example, there had been thugs breaking in when Reika had just moved in here.
There was no need to talk about what they had planned to do to Reika, and even less so about what Reika had done to them.
The other inhabitants of this place had immediately gone from pitying her to fearing her. Reika herself had only said one thing to them.
"Do nothing, and I'll do the same."
And they had no choice but to believe that. Even if they know Reika had a companion… Even if that companion always went out at night and came back smelling like blood… They would never talk.
Stay silence, and they would not make an enemy of her. And they felt no remorse in doing so—none among them was a paragon of virtue, after all. Dregs of society that they were, they had long since abandoned their sense of morality.
And so, this little corner remained peaceful today as well.
Rikudou Reika had a slightly broken memory.
She could not remember clearly half of what happened in her lifetime—it was as if those events were shrouded in mist. She thought of those as a life not worth remembering.
No—to begin with, she never found her life to be worth being called as such.
Never had, never did. Ever since the day she was born. Reika had only ever wasted her days aimlessly. She had no parents to speak of, and was never able to recognize just how depraved she had been slowly becoming.
She had become a prostitute in order to eat, but a certain host ended up killing her in the process. This host was a magus who thought nothing of human life—he had seduced her only because he needed an "ingredient".
He truly thought nothing of her, not even a little bit. She was just a disposable item as far as he was concerned. Reika had been aware of that, and at her last moment—she prayed for her life.
Afterwards, her days were full of so many wonders. Reika could never thank her enough.
Does being alive mean that your heart is beating? That your brain is functioning?
Reika did not think so. Just because someone's heart is beating, their limbs moving, and their tongue muttering words, does not mean they are alive.
To be alive is to have passion. To study and work as hard as you can. To love and hurt another. To raise a life other than your own. Those are what truly shows that you are alive.
And neither good nor evil have anything to do with it—to be alive is simply wonderful. Plain and simple.
Otherwise, why would someone even strive to stay alive?
And that was why Reika felt the most alive right now. Many carry the sin of killing others, but few carry so much sin that they simply have to kill others.
But she did kill. She had killed others in order to obtain the Holy Grail. She had killed others to protect herself. And she had killed others for the sake of her daughter, Jack.
She killed, and she lived. A beautiful dream where her life was perfect and her days were full of happiness…
"Mother. Mother."
Reika opened her eyes when her body was shaken. She seemed to have fallen asleep… She rubbed her eyes, and the figure of a small girl soon appeared in front of her. The girl did not seem to be wounded, but she looked so dejected, as if she had made a blunder.
"Ah, Jack… So it didn't work?"
"Yeah. We're sorry…"
The girl hung her head so forlornly that it tugged Reika's heartstring so much. She embraced her and held her up on her arms.
"You don't have to apologize—I'm already happy that you came back safely."
Reika patted her head and lightly stroke her back as she said that. Soon, the girl finally regained her spirit.
"Okay. We were really close, though."
"…I see. They managed to hold on even after all the Servants went all out, huh?"
"We don't think we can attack them again. What do we do now…? Ah, we checked just in case—it seems like the Red faction had taken the Holy Grail after all."
"What a shame… And where is the Holy Grail right now?"
"We dunno…" Jack says while shaking her head left and right.
"Hm, maybe it's inside that giant thing then…"
"Yeah, maybe."
Jack, too, had taken a part in the battle. Not to side with anyone, but to merely devour the victims.
Then, she had seen the fortress floating in the sky—the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. It was such an absurd Noble Phantasm. The Servant possessing it was, without a doubt, far stronger than her.
But it was not the time to give up just yet. Jack the Ripper had a dream, and her Master Rikudou Reika also still had a wish.
And to make them come true, they must slaughter everyone, be they from the Black or Red faction. …Of course, they could simply joined the Black faction. Magi might be a proudful bunch, but they are also terribly calculative.
However, they would also demand a change of Master for Jack. Rikudou Reika was no magus, merely an ordinary person—she could not supply Servants with prana. As such, Jack needed to nourish herself with "food" to stay alive.
None of those would be a problem were Jack to make a contract with a magus. But that would mean cutting off the connection between her and her mother.
For that matter, Jack herself would never even dream of changing Masters—to be with her mothermeant everything for her.
Surrender had never been an option, be it for Jack or Reika.
The same goes for running away. For the Holy Grail was their goal, and their very life.
"But… What do we do now?"
"Well, Jack—at times like this, we need to think about what others are feeling. What do you think they would want right now?"
Jack folded her arms and swayed her head side to side. She looked like a doll that Reika couldn't help but smile and laugh.
"Mmm… To catch us?"
"Indeed. But don't you think they'd be more concerned about the Holy Grail?"
Jack nodded. Rikudou Reika may not have any knowledge of magi and their world, or of the Great Holy Grail War itself. And Jack herself also only know of herself being the Assassin of Black due to informations from the Holy Grail and from the various magi. But it was not hard to come to a logical conclusion based on all of those. So their priority was quite simple.
The Holy Grail was an omnipotent wish-granting device. Magi thought nothing of human life. And so…
"The one who took the Holy Grail is more important, right?"
"But then… why are they still here?"
"That's simple. The Holy Grail was taken by this… giant floating fortress, right?"
Jack nodded again. The floating fortress was just like the ones she imagined when Reika had read her bedtime stories.
"Then they may not have a method to chase after someone on air. No—they're magi, so they may very well have one… Perhaps they just need time to prepare it, then."
Reika's conjecture, while not complete, was more or less correct. The Yggdmillenia only had 2 days left until their chartered airplanes arrived at the airport. And since they needed to prioritize the Holy Grail, they would need to give up on subjugating Assassin by then.
"So… They just happen to also use that time to try catching us… right?"
"Yes, yes, that's right."
Jack's face swelled as she pouted—even a little girl like her would feel offended when they're treated like a side mission—but immediately cheered up when Reika patted her on the head.
"So, um… They'd want to kill us quickly, right?"
As Jack said so with an innocent tone, Reika began to ponder. At times like this, she would try to see things as a whole—perhaps due to her experience being abused by her adoptive parents and being a prostitute, Reika was very objective when planning on how to reach her goal.
The enemy Servants would want to finish this in a single stroke. They would strike with such an intensity that would leave no room for Assassin to escape.
How should she defend against that?
Making this a prolonged conflict instead… would do them no good. Soon, the enemy would simple leave to chase after the Holy Grail and have their wishes granted. Both Jack and Reika could not simply let that happen.
Now, if the enemy wished to do this as swiftly as possible, how would they move? They would not try to steamroll everything and simply investigate every nook and corner of this city… that would take far too much time.
They might try to discover their whereabouts using a Servant's innate ability, or a form of magecraft… except for the fact that they would've found Reika and Jack already had they possess such an ability on their side. Even if they did, current situation implied that such an ability might be too costly to use.
Which means, the only option they had was…
"Mother?"
Jack hopped to Reika's embrace when she fell quiet—which prompted another pat on the head and a wry smile on Reika's face. Jack then hugged Reika closely and whispered.
"Hey, can we hear more piano? Please?"
"Oh, dear…"
Unfortunately, this place did not have a piano. And even if it did, they couldn't afford to be too noisy right now.
"Hmm… Will you make do with just a song?"
Jack bobbed her head as she nodded. As Reika began humming the tune for Traumerei, it echoes delicately yet fervently across the dead of night. A tune as bewitching as a siren's, yet as warm as a mother's.
At that moment, inspiration suddenly struck her.
"…Say, Jack?"
"Mm-hm?"
"Can you engulf this entire city inside your mist?"
Rikudou Reika was not evil. She did not kill pointlessly. Nor did she enjoy senseless cruelty.
She simply did whatever necessary. Simple as that. She was not much different to most magi in that regard. But unlike magi, who needed to keep their existence a secret, Reika had no such limitation.
She would have no hesitation in doing whatever needed doing to obtain what she desired. No matter how cruel, inhumane, or prideful it might be.
In a way, one could say that Rikudou Reika participated in the Great Holy Grail War in the most human-like way possible…

So I made a higher tier with early access!
Everything I do in this patreon would eventually be public--this, I promise--so it's not mandatory! It's just a nice way to further support me if possible, and I very much appreciate anyone who would!
I plan to eventually have AT LEAST a month's worth of early access for Stage II supporters! Vampires, expect incoming 4 extra chapters of FukuKiru!

2024-02-22 22:38:44 +0000 UTC View PostWhen combat against Assassin of Black—that is, Jack the Ripper—ends, any memories containing informations about them disappears. The Yggdmillennia factions had surmised that it is a form of Noble Phantasm, or perhaps a unique Skill she possesses as an Assassin.
"I took some pictures even though it might not amount to anything, and, well…"
Caules showed the photo of the fortress, shrouded in mists, to the others. It had been taken with only a phone's internal camera, but the camera quality itself was quite up there—so the image's quality was crisp enough. And it seemed like the memory erasure ability could not fool modern technoloqy quite as well.
"This mist… it is most likely the very thing that burned the lungs and melt the skins of the homunculi."
Fiore said, as Gordes nodded in tandem.
"It brings to mind the deadly pollution brought about by the industrial revolution in 19th century London. The magi at that period simply used gentle manipulation of the wind to get by—but this… this mist is conceptual in nature, so I don't think the same method would work. Though it doesn't seem like it damages Servant all that much…"
Caules glanced at Archer of Black as he was staring at the picture, and Archer nodded back in agreement.
"I concur. Against Servants, the mist could only hinder our sight and suppress our agility, at most."
Archer, too, had lost any memories regarding Assassin. However, his memory of rescuing Fiore remained—the adverse effect of the mist was not as lethal for him.
"A combination of mist and surprise attacks… so this is an Assassin's strength."
Fiore's uneasiness was plain from her voice. Even without the relevant memories, there was one thing she still remembers—that the Assassin of Black had been a formidable enemy.
Had Assassin of Black been merely a crazed murderer, she wouldn't have withdrawn. When Fiore had heard of Assassin's true name, she had hypothesized that they were close to a Berserker in nature.
But no. Assassin of Black had shown their cunning in making the most out of their abilities—the Presence Concealment ability belonging to the Assassin class, as well as the mist that obscures their opponents' sight and makes perfectly undetected surprise attack possible.
A Servant who does not fight other Servants head on, but target the Masters instead—they lack any sort of pride as a Heroic Spirit, and they have no hesitation in utilizing all manners of underhanded tactics. But most of all is their preference for drawn-out conflict.
"Archer. Can you come up with a plan to bring down Assassin within two days?"
"It would be quite difficult, unless… we are ready to make some sacrifices."
Archer said with a hard expression, and Fiore grimaced upon hearing it. Archer was saying that they might need to leave Assassin be for now—yet the death toll for doing that might be unimaginable.
"…We are not sacrificing anyone."
"Understood. Nevertheless, Assassin is a Servant—and their troublesome Presence Concealment Skill means that right now we would always be one step behind them. As an Archer, I might be able to catch them off guard in turn myself, but…"
Archer of Black's Clairvoyance Skill means that he is capable of seeing through far distance unobstructed—he would be able to strike Assassin preemptively if he managed to detect them first. However, one problem remained still.
"…Servants are able to detect the presence of other Servants, and Assassin would simply retreat the moment they detect mine—they would not be so foolish so as to risk direct combat."
The situation right now was going around in circles.
Archer was the only one who could possibly takes the initiative against Assassin. Yet Archer simply could not do so.
They were stuck in a deadlock, so to speak. If there is something that could break it, it would be…
"…A decoy. We could have someone luring Assassin in, and have the rest of our Servants encircle Assassin from beyond their detection range before striking them down."
"Do you have a plan in mind?"
Fiore smiled at Gordes' inquiry.
"Yes. Can you serve as the decoy, Uncle?"
Gordes' immediately looked flabbergasted at that. …Indeed, none of the Servants would be able to serve as the decoy—only Masters. Thus…
"They already know I'm Archer's Master, so I can't do it."
"Ah, b-but I can't do it either—I don't have the stamina for it, unfortunately."
Gordes then looked towards Caules, who simply sighed and nodded.
"Alright, alright, I'll do i—"
But then, the boy who had been silent this whole time raised his hand.
"…Wait. I believe I personally suit the role of a decoy the most. "
The atmosphere tightened when Sieg spoke up, and Rider immediately rushed to his side.
"Wh-Wh-What are you even saying, Master?!"
Rider grabbed on to Sieg's shoulder and began shaking him back and forth, as if trying to snap Sieg back to his senses.
"N-No, I really do think that it's safer for me to be the decoy instead of Caules… My presence as a Servant as I am right now is considerably weak… weak enough that Assassin would not suspect anything, that is."
"B-But still…"
"That, and… I can't forgive Assassin personally. Because of them, that homunculus was…"
Even if his memory dissipated, the feelings remained. The mist might disperse, yet a corpse had been left behind all the same. The corpse of a homunculus who died when the mist swallowed them…
"Did you… know that homunculus?"
"No, we just… talked, once. But so what? That homunculus was still my kin. Do I not have the right to be angry on their behalf?"
"I-I didn't say that..."
Rider's shoulder drooped when they see how determined Sieg was about this.
Sieg continued further, trying to dispel Rider's worry as well.
"Besides, even if this plan fails and I end up dying, the Yggdmillenniastill possesses their Master privilege—they'd have somebody to immediately replace me as your Master. So you don't need to worry that you'd disappear, Rider. So it's only logical that I'm to be the decoy here."
"…"
Rider's expression immediately went frozen still—and so was everyone's. They were all looking at Sieg completely dumbfounded.
"What is it?"
The moment he opened his mouth, Rider slapped him on his cheek. It was a light slap—for a Servant, that is. The sound reverberated all across the room.
"Eh?"
Sieg looked completely confounded as he stared at Rider.
"You idiot!"
Looking like they were about to cry, Rider then simply stormed off the conference room.
"Did I… say something wrong?"
"Hmm… Well, you did not say anything wrong, per se…"
"I agree. If anything, you simply said too much…"
Fiore's and Archer's words only served to make Sieg pondered further what precisely he had done wrong. Ruler, for her part, seemingly could not stay silent anymore and tugged on his sleeve.
"Ruler, did I say something wrong…?"
"Well, Sieg, I think you… really need to work on understanding the feelings of others. And you need apologize to Rider later on."
"…Okay."
"Do you agree with Rider, Ruler? That he shouldn't be the decoy after all?"
"I do, yes—at least for now. Sieg does possess strength above that of an average magus—but that by no means removes all concerns when it comes to facing a Servant."
Yet, there was ineed none more fitting for the role than Sieg. He was capable of both magecraft as well as swordmanship to a degree. And he was the only one who volunteered himself for the deadly role of his own volition. There was Caules, but he'd be lying if he said he'd willingly fight against a Servant.
"Do you have any other ideas, Ruler?"
"I suppose I do, yes… though I can't quite claim it to be a good one."
Sieg immediately leaned forward at that, as Ruler showed a rare, mischieveous expression on her face.
And as it turned out, what Ruler had in mind was indeed quite a shock for everyone involved.

And that's the last of the leftover extras!
From now on, I'm going to tackle the main story proper, starting from Volume 07!

This manga singlehandedly made me more fashion conscious and dress more stylishly, something my family had been unable to do for 30+ years.
When I see that the scanlation for this manga was dropped, I realize I must take matters into my own hand! XD
Right now, I plan to do either a weekly or bi-weekly release, translating the missing extras from volume 5 (this post) and volume 6 first, then continue until the current volume 13.
The more this page grows, the more scanlation I can do, so any support would be appreciated!
I'm currently uploading to MangaDex as well but since it's my first time it's being manually reviewed first--in the future I will probably simply link my upload on MangaDex, but if anyone has a better idea please tell me in the comments below!
2024-02-11 17:41:00 +0000 UTC View PostHi guys. castor212 here.
I used to to do fan translations of various media from JP to EN--mostly manga and light novels--but then I had to go to a hiatus because I transformed into an adult with adult responsibilities.
I made a patreon because I really want to go start translating again while also as a justification not participating in corporate slavery :P
I'm not really going to paywall anything, really--this patreon is more of a "support me if you can" thingy.
If you do become a member though, you get to recommend me stuffs you want to translate, and vote for it.
I would appreciate any donations so I can keep doing translations!
