I keep experimenting with what i could do with blender! here is what i did this time.
There was actually a "step 0" - which is the old original art i've started back in 2022.. and pretty soon realised that it is "not it". One of the works i kept beating myself over for all this time and just couldn't bring myself to finish it. All my attempts ended up not looking good because i didn't have the skills that were needed to do that.
I don't think i'd be able to make that new art happen without 3d stuff - i still am not good at drawing bg's by myself, but.. I guess this is a step in right direction :D
When i was starting making this, i knew roughly what i want to do - keep the colors, keep the pose (particularly the ~legs~), and keep the, uh, location.
Started out this drawing in blender because checking out the angles and lights and all that beforehand.. is just way easier than trying to visualise it all from zero. But definetely feels like cheating.
Here i tried something new!!
I got a new pc and now can actually start tampering with 3d stuff (something i wanted to do for super long time!) soo.. welp!
Stages 1-3 are pretty standard and self-explanatory.
4. Here i put some basic male model someone shared with me long ago in the same pose as my drawing and set a lighting similar to what i usually draw. Decided to not make it super complicated this time.
5. Used the rendered picture as a reference\base for the shading. I painted it all in one layer (which was probably a mistake - applying it to character's colors was a little tricky and i'm not sure it will work every time with every palette). Erased some parts of the lineart (most of the torso outlines).
6. After juggling with the layers for a pretty long time, i decided this layer combination worked good enough. At first it was a little scary to me because colors didn't look same way as they usually do at this stage but it was either working with it or redoing entire shading. Had to trust the process!
7-8. Overpaint - fixing small mistakes, adding detail, editing colors, finishing touches.

In a few recent weeks i couldn't keep posting in same exact day every week.
The current arts i have in the work are a tad more challenging for me than i expected and need more time to finish, so during the rest of february and likely march too i won't be following exact schedule, and it'll be more like 3-5 arts per month instead of 1 per week "fixed".
I feel like i do have to write this out because i started writing "posting weekly" everywhere and now i'm falling short and aaaaaaa. >_>'
Thought that maybe this would be interesting for some so here's a rough step by step :)
I follow roughly the same process in every drawing.
1. Sketch - pretty self-explanatory! It is almost always the hardest part of the entire drawing for me. If the sketch is not good, then everything else will also look off in the end.
2. Line+Flat colors. When coloring characters, i sometimes adjust their saturation and brightness - here i muted the blue parts of both characters.
3. Shading. First, i disable the layer with flat colors or create a new completely white one above it. Second, i create a "saturation" layer and make it completely black so the entire drawing is switched to black and white. Third, i draw all the shades on multiply layer above the flats. Then i turn the colors back on and color the shading layer - here it is a dark blue+brownish color gradient.
4. Flats and shading layers turned on together
5. Lighting. Here i make the blue parts of both characters more bright again by adding glow to them, and also paint the outer light source.
6. "Render". I add more texture, add smaller details, polish the drawing basically. Most of it is done in one "normal" mode layer above everything else
7. Finishing touches. Colored the line, blurred some things, added a bit of steam, noise, all that. And the signature, of course xD At this stage, it's all done.
