Taco Salad Magical Items

Download the tunes (4 tracks, 4mb)

Download the mp4

I made 4 tracks for the cartoon, but only 2 (arguably 1) are worthy works in their own right.  I think the main theme is one of the best pieces of music I've made, at least I haven't gotten tired of it yet.  I also like Tense Conversation, the first part was what I originally had in mind  for Gendo's fight music in Great Destiny Man, but it didn't fit.  I replaced the timpani with some sweet drums (I think they were titled "synthwave") and it fit the scene well.

Also here's an updated link for the music pack.

Also!  If anyone would like their custom credit changed let me know.  And if you currently don't have one and would like one, also let me know!

Sweet Boy Beach - Taco Salad

I am very pleased to bring you Sweet Boy Beach - Taco Salad.

(newgrounds mirror)

I think I started it late last year and it must have taken somewhere between 300-400 hours to make.  Quite often I'll start disliking a cartoon when I'm over halfway on it and question my judgment in starting it.  But not this one!  I enjoyed working on it I think right up until the end (although sometimes finishing a cartoon can be brutal and this one was one of the toughest).

This is my first patreon cartoon since Fernando and the Disk of Chaos which was finished way back in February 2018.  Thank you every one for supporting this!

You will notice I have a sponsor for this one (on the youtube version only).  I've always been wary of working with brands because I don't want to deter viewers with a brand message at the beginning of something I put so much work into.  Surfshark were happy with an ad read at the end of the cartoon, so I don't feel like the cartoon will lose viewers because of it.

I've thought a fair bit about the title for this one.   Sweet Boy Beach - Taco Salad feels right, but I don't know if it's a clickable title.  Taco Salad doesn't seem any more appealing.  I thought about calling it simply Sweet Boy Beach.  It's never too late to change it so I'm interested in reading anyone's opinion on what the best/most clickable title is.  My girlfriend suggested Who Stole my Taco Salad? which is clickable sure but it also feels like it demeans the cartoon somehow.

Thanks again everyone and I hope you enjoy Cuthbert and Dante's first proper adventure.

Home stretch + Discord

I'm working on the final shots of this beast.  I might even finish them this weekend.  Then I need to go back to the start and do another pass of the whole cartoon, tidying up all the loose ends and things I left behind, and of course music and sound.

I don't know what this guy's name is, I think of him as "Shiny Boy", but he is voiced by the excellent Ocelot who has voiced many characters for me these past 5-6 years.

My easter break starts 7 days from now and I will have 9 days I think to finish this cartoon.  I think it should be enough!  Then I'll have 5 weeks of Bluey left.  And THEN it will be winter of content baby.

I started a discord:  -> come and join!  <-

The first 2 days were honestly a glimpse into hell.  I made a post about it on youtube (not a video, they have a blog thing now) and I didn't expect many people to see it, but holy smokes.  It was like my own mini 4chan.  But now there is mods and it is a place of thoughtful discussion.

In covid news Australia has been reluctant to embrace full shutdown and yet we haven't seen an explosion of cases yet.  I hope that the curves are flat or flattening wherever you find yourself.

The sweetest of boys

My 3 weeks off is OVER and and i'm back at the office but only for another 6-9 weeks, then it will be back to my own projects.  I'm hoping I can avoid the covid19 until then.  A few months of self isolation sounds pretty good to me.

This is a nice hookup action I think  is working well.

I am very confident I can finish this over the easter break, so look for it mid April!

This is a rare (for me) 7 inbetween head turn.  What a graceful swan!

As for the next project, at present I have a Fernando and Gooseman music video I'm very keen on.  It's not a ___ of the Manwhore but I think it will be special in it's own way.  I'm also thinking about animating Pleasure Island: Final Climax.  It would be nice to be able to finally say I've finished that series.  Generally I'd love to revive Pleasure Island as a series and concept but then I've got to keep the energy going and keep making cartoons.  I'm really happy with the reception Banando received,  alot of people took to it, so I reckon I'll start another collab animatic project like that later in the year.

I'm spoiling it a little, but this cartoon has a thrilling race in it.

I'm animating the end finally but there's still so much to do, I'll be putting time on this every evening and weekend until Easter break and I think that will get me over the line.  This is easily one of the biggest projects I've made, and I'm still not sure it will come together and be good.  But that's making a film for you.  If it's not good it will at least be an interesting mess.  But I'm pretty confident this will be a good one.

I'm really concerned about the virus, please stay safe everyone.

*PS*

I forgot to mention, if you have access to Disney+ you can probably (definitely in the US & Canada but I'm not sure if you can get it in Europe yet) watch Bluey, the show I've been working on.  Also if you're in Australia there's new eps coming out starting March 17.  The first episode is one I storyboarded.

Wonderful Sweet Boys

I am pleased to report that I am over 2/3 through this cartoon.  I've animated about 75% of the timeline, but there's a nugget of action at the end which must be treated with tender respect.

The header image is the very first shot, the final shot has animated waves, birds and scudding clouds but the gif doesn't look as impressive as a larger still.

I've shared an earlier version of this next one.  The greens get mashed in the gif and I'm still working on the pulse but I think it's almost there.

I probably shouldn't spoil the plot so I'll just say Dante brings a problem to Cuthbert, who is busy posing threateningly.

He successfully rallies Cuthbert to his cause.

And then they go harrass someone who is maybe best left alone.

I think I will make this guy's teeth glow.

I'm half way through my 3 weeks off Bluey.  I won't be able to finish this in the time I have left, this is one of the bigger cartoons I've made.  I have a decent shot at finishing it over the Easter break.  Bluey finishes late April/early May and then it will be all content all the time baby.

In other news, my Banando animatic is fully monetized on youtube, which is not significant in itself but it indicates a relaxing of strictiness on the platform.  I mean, Banando is pretty adult in places.  I wish I could get them to review my numerous older cartoons that are limited or age gated.  I'd say this is either my imagination or a reaction to losing the capacity to collect children's data.  That was quite a major blow for them so it makes sense to accept that it's a platform for adults and stop dissing creators who don't make baby shit.  I'm not bitter!

Banando Animatic

Fernando wakes up alone on a beach and tries to piece together what happened the previous evening.

Once I started working on Sweet Boy Beach I prioritised that over this and it took me a really long time to do the last 90 seconds or so, but I finally got there.  Honestly I'd love to animate this, it's got a lot of my favourite things in it: beaches, jungles, people smacking and threatening each other, lasers.  But if I was to animate a 6+ minute project there are probably more worthy ones?  I dunno.

Next Project!!!

My next project is Sweet Boy Beach - Taco Salad.  I am both excited and relaxed right now because I have 2 weeks off from work for xmas and I will be spending as much of it as possible animating some tanned hunks at the beach.  Then in February I'm taking 3 weeks off from work in order to finish it (it's shaping up to be a pretty big one so if I can't finish it in February it will be easter break).

My time on Bluey season 2 will end in late April/early May and then I plan to make sweet sweet cartoons again!!!  I'm already frothing!

This will be my first patreon project since Fernando and the Disk of Chaos in early 2018, so by the time this is done it will be 2 years.  If during the last 2 years you have cooled on being my patron the next time you will be charged will be the end of February and could even be April so you have until then to cancel.  No sweat and thanks for all of your support so far!  Now on to Sweet Boy Beach:

The title image is a colour concept of the establishment shot, it's not finished art.

This is the most animation these guys have ever been treated to, up until now they've just stood around glamorously.

I won't spoil any major plot points but right at the start Cuthbert gets embroiled into a flexing match with this guy:

Once again backgrounds not final.

Xmas is in a few days, have a safe and happy holiday period everyone!

Seagull family, other stuff.

I am/was (not sure) working on a show pitch for a guy I know, I have a short cartoon idea which involves mostly the big guy on the left and the three family members to his right, and maybe pink shirt guy as well.  I'd like to try something with simpler characters and do more FBF character animation.  It's pretty fun to generate ideas this way, by just visualising characters and basic traits and going from there.  I imagine these guys live in a nation of seabirds in the distant future.  Their society is fairly rigid and organised like ours but outside their borders other animals live different and wilder lives, some have evolved intelligence, some not.  I've had the far left character for a while but haven't yet put him in anything.

I'm not too far off finishing the Bananando animatic collab - probably won't animate it since it will be 6 minutes long and I'm not convinced it's worth 2-3 months of work.  I do think it's funny though.  I'll finish it either next weekend or the next.

I'm almost finished my Sweet Boy Beach animatic, and this one I definitely plan to animate.  My scheme is to spend as much of the christmas holidays (2 weeks) on it as I can, then I'm taking 3 weeks off from Bluey in February and that will hopefully be enough time to finish it.  I have been feeling pretty low at work lately and they have agreed I can take unpaid time off to work on other things.  So hopefully new cartoon in February.

I've seen a range of wild opinions on the COPPA/Youtube story.  It's starting to look like Youtube is writhing around trying to retain as much data on users as they can but have acknowledged they are going to take a hit.  The click screen where all the creators had to elect how they classified their content appears to be YT forcing their legal liability onto the creators.  There's also the weird question about the classifications they offered and why.  I elected that everything I've uploaded is for adults and will be in the foreseaable future.  I'm pretty safe from this one, at least in terms of legal liability, there's nothing on my channel that can be mistaken for content primarily aimed at children 12 and under.

I think there's a lot of hysteria about this topic but I can't divine if it's justified or not.  Youtube's already squeezed my channel so much I wonder if I'll notice if things get worse.

Sweet Boy Beach ART!

I've pretty much finished making pitch materials for Sweet Boy Beach.  Below is Cuthbert, Dante, and Spicy Sally (a new character, she's not in the existing cartoons) and a brief writeup for each.

Cuthbert

With a body smoother than that of a newly birthed seal and a gaze that can cut frozen butter, Cuthbert has found nothing on this earth more satisfying than hanging out at the beach and looking beautiful.

A master of many beach activities (surfing, lounging, applying oil to skin, flex volleyball), Cuthbert could have been anything he set his steely-eyed mind to but aspires only to breathe the sweet air of Sweet Boy Beach and look amazing.

Also he’s really good at skating, but he had to give it up because he hurt his tailbone.

Dante

Dante is the gentle, placid lake to Cuthbert’s typhoon. Dante shares Cuthbert’s passion for aesthetic lounging and rare oils from the sea, and the two are often found together.

Dante operates a beachside sandwich shop where he makes hasty limp sandwiches for passers-by, few of whom return.

Dante was once cursed by a lizard and can never ever wear a shirt.

Spicy Sally

Spicy Sally’s fiery passion for beach life sometimes rubs the other residents the wrong way. Always out to make a quick buck, Spicy Sally is fiercely competitive and a hard drinker.

Her powerful charisma attracts a small band of followers. Her agenda is not always clear, and when it is, it’s seldom pleasant.

But Spicy Sally fiercely loves the beach and can be great company as long as she’s having fun.

Pretty cool sounding crew, right?  Who wouldn't watch this!!!

Still working on my Sweet Boy Beach concept!  I've written three episodes and some solid outlines for two more.  I don't know how far I'll take it but I think you'll at least see the first episode.  If I ever get as far as making a pitch document, the above painting could be the first or last page of the pdf.

I'm working on the animatic for Sweet Boy Beach episode 1 but most of my spare time has been going into the Fernando Animatic collab.  Check it out, it's 3:30 long already!  I initially tried to keep it clean enough that it would comply with youtube community guidelines if I animated it, but now that it's getting long and the Big Plums character has shown up that has gone out of the window.

I'M A HORSE!

It's finally finished, my first music video since Tobey Maguire.  Is that significant?  I guess not.  I'm happy with how it turned out, it has a real energy to it.

Now I've got to pick a new project!  I've boiled it down to either Sweet Boy Beach: Taco Salad or Pleasure Island: Final Climax.

I mentioned it last post but just quickly again I'm not counting this as a "patreon project" because I've had a job the whole time I've worked on it so I haven't need financial assistance to make it.  I'm trying to think up glorious projects to make when I finish on Bluey.

Also my twitter account got suspended and they won't tell me why, can you believe that!  I thought youtube was the villain platform but twitter has really turned it up.  I keep appealing and in the most recent reply they just said I violated their rules and wouldn't elaborate.

I hope you are all doing well!

Almost horse time

I'm almost finished I'm a Horse.  I'm hoping to upload in 2-3 days.  The three horse pics above are thumbnail variants.  Which one would you most likely click?

Just so you know!  I'm a Horse is not a patreon project, you won't be charged for it.  The reason for this is I've made it entirely while I've been working on the kids show so I haven't needed any financial assistance to make it.  When I return to patreon I'm aiming to have an appealing series idea to pitch people, something about the size of the Great Destiny Man series.   Over the last couple of months I've been writing new Fernando and Gooseman ideas and also a few episodes of Sweet Boy Beach.

A strange beach adventure

I've started a new collab on my second channel, this time it's an animatic rather than a comic (or song).  So far Fernando has woken up near a beach and met a strange man who starts talking about a ritual.

It feels good to draw and voice Fernando again, even if it's just a little bit!  I love the process of discovery as these stories are slowly formed over a period of weeks and months.  The challenge with this one will be to not let it get too long.  Once it gets longer than about 4 minutes it will likely be too big a project to take further than an animatic.  If I can keep it at 3 minutes or under then there's a high chance I can animate it (so long as it's actually good).  I quite like the idea of a sprawling show set in a forest which is just weirdoes bumping into each other and having strange adventures.  We'll see if it turns out watchable.  I'm aiming to upload a new instalment every week.

I'm still slowly tapping at the horse cartoon, here's some more completed scenes.

If you've missed my last couple of posts, there's two new collab songs from the last month:

Jorts

Your Uncle is Sweaty

Both turned out well, but the energy I had to make music has been dissipated into these two tracks and I'm content to work on the beach animatic for a while rather than start new songs.

View Post

Your Uncle is Sweaty

It took me 2 weeks instead of 1 but here is the latest collab song, Your Uncle is Sweaty.

I think it's not quite as good as Jorts but it's still one of the better collab songs I think.  Also like jorts I don't think it lends itself to a music video.

I've been furiously trying to write new Pleasure Island and Sweet Boy Beach stories on the train recently.  Nothing really to show at this time (just loads of tiny sketches) but I'm trying to stay busy.  Also drip by drip i'm finishing the horse music video.

JORTS song

It's a new song!  I realised I haven't made one in ages.  Creative pressure built up in my oesophagus and I needed to start another collab written song.

I've been getting back into playing guitar over the past few months and I want to start doing more with that.  This song has some cool jazz chords in the verse.

The build up parts where the drums kick in isn't quite as effective as I imagined due partly to my choice of guitar patches, shoddy singing ability and probably mastering too.  But I really like it!  It would be tough to animate it because it's about someone with massive legs who's wearing jorts.

Lyrics:

These legs of mine can not be contained by jorts

I do a bawdy squat, the fabric violently contorts

These unstoppable gams, peerless among their kind

Avert your mortal gaze, my haunches might just blow your mind

My thighs are waxed and quite toned

Concealing these legs is a skill I have not honed

In rugged ecstasy, my quads bust through the denim

This garb of chastity, deflates my sexual venom

Don't be afraid, these glistening glutes won't bite

But no legwear exists that will hold them in tonight

My only solace in this hell

My legs emit a most erotic smell....

Have you seen these hams?

Have you seen these hams?

Have you seen these hams?

Have you seen these hams?

Great Destiny Man soundtrack

Here's the GDM soundtrack if anyone would like it.   12 tracks - length 7:54

I realised now that the series is finished I can compile an OST.  Granted there's a few versions of the same theme but there's some other good stuff too.  The track I like the most is "Ep 4 Credits".

Also here's another no context horse gif:

Great Destiny Man and the Berry Good Time

Ep 4 is up!

Yay I finished another series!  Not often I can say that.

I would really like to return to Great Destiny Man and Gendo.  I get a comfortable feeling when animating them similar to Fernando and Gooseman.

I've started storyboarding on season 2 of Bluey (which is being distributed by Disney and you'll be able to watch it in November unless you're in New Zealand).

I'm working on the strange horse cartoon again too.

The winds of destiny are blowing...

If you haven't seen Great Destiny Man and the Crusher of Balls yet, I just uploaded it to my channel so check it out!

Great Destiny Man re-unites with an old foe, while his apprentice makes a new enemy.
So far people like it!

I have two and a half weeks left to finish episode 4, and I think I will make it without having to make some hard decisions.

Otherwise I've been playing a lot of guitar for the first time in a while, and plotting another Fernando cartoon.

After a little break I'd like to continue GDM, I have some good ideas for future stories and I enjoy drawing and animating them.  So far they don't seem to be doing well enough to get future episodes which is a shame, but I don't regret making this series, it has really stretched me and I've learned a lot of new tricks and techniques.

GDM Ep 4 update

I've got a month to finish this and it will be tight.  The animatic turned out to be longer than I thought, so I really hope I can pull it off without having to cut anything.

I guess I don't have much more to say about it for now.  There's magic and fighting and also some tentacle shit as well.

Theyre supposed to be tree roots but I'm treating them like tentacles cause its easier.

I've spent six months on GDM and his pals and even if this last episode underwhelms I'm really happy with the first three.  They don't seem to be setting the world on fire but when I watch them I feel they're good.  Also animating on my own at home with no one telling me what to do and no financial pressures is the perfect scenario for me, it's been great.  When this is done I'm going to go back to the studio for a while and work on the second season of Bluey.  I'm not sure if that will be the rest of the season or part time or just for a while yet.  They've been going for a while but I've been doing this instead.

I'm more interested in what cartoon I'll make next.  I'm wavering between a new Fernando and Gooseman adventure I wrote recently, a nicely animated Sweet Boy Beach cartoon (i have to specify it will be animated well because the first two were so half-assed), Meth Orcs 2 and a few other new ideas.

Ok time to go rest my pulsing eyeballs (just joking, my eyeballs are fine.  My teeth though...)

Great Destiny Man and the Crusher of Balls + Ep 4 beginnings

Octopie just uploaded episode 3.  This one calls back to GDM2, made back in 2011, so it was strange and cool to revive Tyra the Ballcrusher.  If GDM gets more episodes I'd like to keep her around.  She's a thieving brigand but in this episode she's come down from the hills into town for a drink.

I'm going to finish the art for the episode 4 storyboards today, and if it's quiet I'll record Great Destiny Man's lines.  I live near some busy roads and also an airport so I'll get nice quiet pockets to record occasionally but other times you can forget about it.

Here are some shots I've been drawing over the last few days.  At the very start, GDM must find his wayward apprentice.

The title for episode 4, unless I can think of a better one, is Great Destiny Man and the Berry Good Time.  That should give you a hint about one of the plot points.

This one will be challenging because I want it to be action packed and I've got 6 weeks to make it.  It's a hard deadline I won't be able to extend since it's the end of the project so I'm going to be crunching for the next 6 weeks to make this good.  I've made all the deadlines so far which is nice for me I guess.

I've tried to do a variety of scenarios in this series to demonstrate the range of what a longer, bigger better series could be like.  Comedic but with dramatic action and real stakes.  Late medieval fantasy world, bit of magic.  This final episode will deal with the conflict in the first episode.  I've met with mixed success when I've attempted genuine dramatic action so I guess we'll see if I can pull it off this time.

Ok I hope you all like episode 3!

Episode 3....ho boy!

I'm getting to the pointy end of episode 3!  The title gif is a shot that might give too much away but I'm sharing anyway.  It makes me dizzy if I look at it too long.  It's part of a sequence of shots I'm finishing today that I'm confident will look great.  Sharing any more really would give too much away though.

Some of you might remember that Tyra and GDM have a history (from GDM2).  Gendo initially does his best to keep them apart.

I've made a mistake in this cartoon which is evident in the following shot.  I dropped Gendo in front of brown objects in several places, and his brown tunic doesn't stand out.  It's the sort of thing I don't think about at storyboarding stage because I draw in blue.  I'm going to add subtle glows to the characters which will help Gendo stand out more.  I don't think it's a large enough mistake to justify recolouring Gendo or the tree but  it's definitely something I should think about more and earlier.  On a larger production an art director is supposed to think about all this stuff.  If that was my one job maybe I'd be better at it.

GDM is being his usual self here, as in he's being a jerk.

I've kept up to date with the backgrounds on this one which is a nice change.   The motivational trick I've learned is to do a couple of hours at the start of the day (I need ways to force myself to do it because I am not a painter at heart).

Episode 2 went up on my channel a few days back and the reception has been pretty warm.  A lot of people seem to be getting in to the series and I'm confident that if you like the first 2, the 3rd and 4th episodes will keep that energy going.

I've still got 2 weeks to go on episode 3 (I hope it's only 2 weeks otherwise my schedule is gonna get messed up), so I'll post again when it goes up on the Octopie channel.

GDM update, Patreon policy

I haven't commented on the patreon policy changes for new creators yet.  They appear to be not good and designed to increase profit.  I think in the long run the new fee structure will strengthen the offering of competitors and result in less creators and patrons using the site.

I tried to find out whether Patreon was already a profitable company and found this quote from the CEO:  “The reality is Patreon needs to build new businesses and new services and new revenue lines in order to build a sustainable business.”   Sounds like corporate speak for "we can earn more if we make these changes".

If they're already profitable then they shouldn't do this, their greed will harm the company in the long run.  If they're losing money as things stand then I am more sympathetic.   It's possible they got a bunch of venture capital early on and they're steadily draining through it, tbh I'm too lazy to research further.

At this point we are used to seeing tech companies offer a great service, succeed in gaining users, and then implement changes that steadily degrade the service (thinking about youtube).  I don't have a solution!

Here's a birdy from ep 3.  This one takes place in a town.

GDM ep 1 has gone up on my channel and it's been pretty quiet.  I didn't expect it to do very well because I made a video promoting it on the Octopie channel one month previously so the core of people who will check out something I make in the first couple of days had already seen it.   I'm expecting ep 2 to do a bit better because less of my subscribers has seen it, but there again it will have been out for a month when it goes up on my channel.  It's my first time trying this arrangement, I won't know if I'm happy with it until it's all over I guess.

Lest you think Gendo is on a roll after the first two episodes, it doesn't all go his way in this one.  In this episode GDM insists that Gendo masters that staple move in the samurai arsenal, the spinning back kick.  This happens quite early so it's not a spoiler.

Ok, I hope this finds you all well!

Great Destiny Man episode 2 is up!

In this stirring tale, Great Destiny Man tells his noble apprentice Gendo why he respects him. But then some stuff happens.

If you can see the thumbnail in the post, I'm impressed by how Octopie saturated the Orc on the left, making his nipples the brightest of fleshy pinks.

GDM series update

Episode 2 is delivered!  I'm not sure if they'll put it up this Sunday or wait a few weeks.  I'm very happy with it and I think it might be a bit better than Episode 1.  2 down 2 to go!

Ep 3 is called "Great Destiny Man and the Crusher of Balls" and it's all about the return of a character some of you will recognise.

It's Tyra the Ballcrusher and she's fresh from getting kicked in the face by Great Destiny Man last week.  There's more booze in this one but no berries.  (I'm thinking of calling Episode 4 "Great Destiny Man and the Berry Good Time" so you know there will be berries).

Episode 3 centres around Great Destiny Man trying to teach Gendo the spinning back kick.  This gif is something of a spoiler so don't look at it if that bothers you.

.

.

.

Reaction to Episode 1 has been really positive, which is good because I think it will end up being the 3rd or 4th best of 4.  Our agreement is that I can put them on my channel 30 days after Octopie puts them on theirs, so I'm looking forward to showing everyone these.

GDM ep 1 release date, GDM 2 wips

I haven't posted recently because I didn't have any news, but I just found out that episode 1 will be out on the Octopie channel this coming Sunday 9am PST.  I'm very much looking forward to sharing it, it's weird for me to finish something and then not immediately publish it.

I wouldn't say I'm "almost" finished episode 2 but it's very far along, and I'm hoping I can finish it with another solid week.  It doesn't look like much because I've lagged on the backgrounds.  I don't want to spoil anything but it involves some delicious tea.

It's also got some orcs.  I guess that's a spoiler.  Yes, the orcs have pink nipples.  No, Treshtog from Meth Orcs isn't among them.

This shot was beastly, it took 2 whole days to get it this far!  And it's still unfinished as you can see, but it just needs the background and some blood spurts and stuff, the characters are done.  I have to be careful with the amount of action I include, you might think the more the better, but very quickly I'd be spending years on this series instead of months.

YYYAAAAAAAAA!!!!

I'll post again when episode 1 is up, I'm also planning on making one of my animated talk to camera vids this week to promote it.

I haven't quite finished it, but I've gotten it to a point where I need to not look at it for a few days and then make some tiny changes, mostly relating to sound effects and one colour choice.  I'm wondering if the guy at the back of this shot should have gold armour, as it sticks out in the scene.  I quite like his overall blueness though.

It took me longer than I thought it would, it always does but I think it was worth it, as a skill building exercise if nothing else.  I'm not holding myself up as a great or even good painter, but I'm better than I was a few months ago.

Can you spot the shitting horse?  I pulled it out of my unfinished I'm a Horse cartoon.  I love a good reuse, especially when no one has actually seen it yet.

The client is very happy with episode 1, which is great.  I'm 2/3 through storyboarding episode 2 and I think that although there is less of a story than in episode 1, the jokes are working.  Unfortunately I have to be harsher when it comes to reusing backgrounds and existing assets now, otherwise the schedule will blow out.

They haven't quite figured out when they're going to release it.  I think it depends on when some of their other shows have some completed episodes (they're making a bunch at once).  It should be cool when they all come out though, I'll be interested to see the other shows.

More generally I'm really looking forward to being active again and releasing stuff.  It's been too long!

Merry Holiday period

I hope you are all in a good place and enjoying your time off if you're taking any!

The title gif is a drunk guy rejecting Great Destiny Man's assertion that he can slice the hair on his cheek in two.  The shot is not quite finished, I have to animate some of the eyes of the crowd so they don't seem so static.

Here is our antagonist, Quinoa the mage.  The effects are not finished here, there will be cool sparks and stuff as she casts the spell.  I'm pretty happy with the light effects on her clothes.

Episode 1 will be finished in JANUARY!!!  Whether or not it is released when it's ready, I will share it here.  It will be my first completed project since Disk of Chaos almost a year ago.  My horse cartoon is still sitting at around 85% completed, I've had to shelve that because I'm running out of time to make the GDM series.  It will appear next year some time.

Sorry for going dark for a while, we had a great time on holiday, and then I really wanted to dive into this.  But it's starting to come together now.

I mentioned holiday snaps and then never delivered.  Sorry about that, I'm always very reluctant to post photos of myself online.  Here's me standing next to the world's biggest barrel in Heidelberg, Germany.

And here's me drinking a litre of Hofbräu Winterzwickl in Munich, which was one of my favourite beers that I tried.  I tend to like dark and zingy beers.

One of my other favourites was Köstritzer, a schwarzbier.  Here's a not very spectacular photo of me drinking Köstritzer, also in Heidelberg.

One of my few non-animation related hobbies is brewing beer.  For my next brew I'm going to try making a black beer that will hopefully be similar.

See you in 2019!
