EV Roadtrip, Vintage Computer Festival, and Moonbase Repair!

Comments

I was curious if you took any footage at Classic Game Fest in Texas.

Love this video. Always enjoy your road trips. Glad you got Moon Base working!

So bizarre seeing a lot of my fav YouTubers in one place.

Actually, I've been planning to do this for a long time. I was going to get some CRTs from computer reset and do a video on how they work. I still plan to do this, but I'll have to get the CRTs elsewhere.

The 8-Bit Guy

Would you consider doing an "autopsy" on that broken CRT? Like a complete and total teardown on video with explanations as to what the different pieces are and what they do. I think it would be really cool to see all the guts of a CRT shown physically on a table, rather than just the usual diagrams or animations! Plus you could still get use out of something broken beyond repair, in the form of content!

Hah, you're definitely driving through more civilized places than I normally drive. Wyoming and western Colorado would be a lot harder to traverse with an EV without a lot of taking the main road, then going off track and backtracking to reach more rural areas where family live, rather than taking direct roads that have minimal or no EV chargers. Was cool seeing this from another perspective, since I also saw it on Ben Heck's channel. Nice to see all the Atari stuff there.

EVs unfortunately have not taken off in Australia, most likely to the complete lack of infrastructure to support them. You can get hybrids of course but I don't know of ANY petrol stations that have a charging section here in Sydney. Would love to know if there are!

Explosive Action

Don't beat yourself up for that mishap with the tube. Only people who don't do anything don't break anything. With the amount of restoration work you're doing, it is bound to happen from time to time. Glad you had this old console working finally and thanks for the EV road trip analysis. That Chicago VCF looks amazing, I must one day visit it (I only go on the east coast from time to time).

That's very impressive! I used to drive between Phoenix and LA a few times a year and that was at least double that, for a 5-6 hour drive, before the gas prices went insane. Hard to believe that anyone can still be skeptical about EV's. Thanks!

It’s really hard to say. We only spent about $40. But most of the electrify America stations were offline doing some sort of update. So they were just giving free charges to whoever plugged in.

The 8-Bit Guy

How much did you pay for the kilowatt-hours to get there and how many miles away was it? I'd be interested in comparing the price of the road trip in an EUV vs a gas car.

Jac Goudsmit

I own two EVs: a 2018 Lead 40KWh and a 2022 Ioniq 5 77.4KWh. The leaf also suffers from only 50kw fast charge but in addition doesn’t cool the battery so I can fast charge two times max before the speeds drop so hard I cant use it anymore. The Ioniq is definitely my go to long range vehicle with 230kw fast charge.

Counter Surprise

This video cured my EV range anxiety, thanks, my next car will be an EV!
