[“Even if these are just Homunculi, they sure are delicious! Feed me their blood, Anna! I can feel it! I’m getting stronger!”]
FLUOSH!
I noticed Gram’s Draconic Aura surging with power. If only I had the other half my brother possesses, I could complete his form. But I didn’t want to take my brother’s weapon either.
“HAAAAH!”
I heard Kevin’s roar as his spear pierced the head of one of the creatures. Then he leaped to another, summoning spears of light through his magic, bombarding several at once.
“I’ve never eaten dragon before. Are you guys tasty?”
Annabelle, on the other hand, immediately covered her body with a hard exoskeleton, crawling around the monsters’ bodies as they chased and tried to catch her. She moved with a spider’s grace and agility, injecting poison into their bodies through her needle-like legs, paralyzing the monsters one by one.
“Baihe! They’re all yours~!”
“Thank you, Annabelle.”
FLUOSH!
At the same time, a shockwave of freezing winds rushed forward. The immense heat of this place could no longer hold back as ice began forming everywhere.
The cold wave alone made the monsters shiver in pain and annoyance, stepping back in awe as Baihe froze their bodies one by one, growing ice crystals from the floor.
“Henrietta, please don’t be too reckless!”
“It’s going to be alright, please don’t worry, Jack! Let’s fight together then!”
Jack and Henrietta danced on the battlefield, moving as one. As my brother swung his sword, waves of darkness sliced through foes. Henrietta mirrored him with her golden sword. Their darkness and light swirled together, forming a perfect Yin and Yang.
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
And it was a lethal combination, as their charging attack sliced through dozens of draconic homunculi, butchering them alive.
They were strong. No, everyone was already incredibly strong!
“Hilda, let’s fight together. Follow me!” I said as we found ourselves surrounded by even more monsters. They kept emerging endlessly from the surrounding lakes of boiling magma.
“A-Are you sure?! You don’t look like you need help!” Hilda said.
“It’s not about needing help. It’s about getting used to working with us and, well, giving you company. You need to focus your mind,” I said. “Come on, let’s go.”
I patted her shoulders, using my Privileges to ease her tension. Her raging emotions calmed as I infused her with an Aura of Hope and Love, enhancing her strength and durability.
“I guess I don’t have any other option either way!”
She stepped forward by my side, her hammer smashing through foes while I sliced them apart with Gram. As he feasted on their blood and devoured their souls, he was quite a ravenous sword.
Hilda showcased her myriad trinkets, imbued with monster abilities from their materials or cores. Each piece of equipment held a unique power, manifesting the essence of those creatures.
“{Ogre’s Gauntlets}!”
Green gloves covered her hands, transforming into massive gauntlets resembling Ogre hands. Her punches unleashed green energy, exploding into raw shockwaves that blew foes away.
“{Freezing Serpent’s Tail Whip}!”
She wielded a whip crafted from the tail of a powerful ice-type serpent monster, lashing at the monsters and making them groan in pain and retreat. Each strike froze their bodies, weakening them.
“{Golden Sting Bee Swarm}!”
Her golden ring conjured a swarm of ethereal mana bees, buzzing and swarming the monsters’ heads, piercing their eyes and irritating them, sometimes paralyzing their facial muscles to halt their fire breath attacks.
“{Stone Gorilla’s Palm}!”
When her gloves wore down, she put on another set of brown gloves. Each blow summoned huge stone palms, crushing her foes and allowing her hammer to finish them off.
Honestly, she was full of surprises. Although her equipment wore down quickly due to the immense power she unleashed, she had plenty more where that came from.
“Wow, Snow! You’re so much stronger now!”
I also heard Baihe’s voice, fascinated by Snow’s new evolution. She was already riding his back, and they fit together perfectly. She unleashed her magic at full power. Although I told her to save her big spells or skills for later, she still used her favorite high-powered magic.
“{Ice Dragon’s Breath}! {Glacial Wolf’s Claws}!”
Her magic conjured a giant ice dragon’s jaws, unleashing a freezing breath that instantly slowed her foes. The flames fueling their body heat dissipated, causing them to falter and fall back. Some froze solid and died instantly, while survivors faced her Glacial Wolf’s Claws, which fused with Snow’s own claws. This synchronized technique extended Snow’s attacks to long range, tearing through the half-frozen monsters one by one.
She also practiced her spear-fighting techniques, making good use of the physical training we’d done, along with the martial arts and cultivation techniques from the Murim Dungeon, plus her Ki and developing Physique and Martial Core.
“{Icebloom Spear Martial Arts}: {Freezing Stinging Rose}!”
Her Ki and Mana merged, creating an illusion of a rose garden around her, a harmonious fusion of Magic and Martial Arts!
CLASH! CLASH! CLASH! CLASH!
Through this technique, she pierced several foes at once in record time, spreading ice through their wounds that resembled blue roses. These grew spiky ice vines, stinging and ultimately killing dozens of monsters quickly.
This technique was still new to her, but it was amazing! And she developed it all on her own, no less. Icebloom Spear Martial Arts, huh? It even sounds cool.
Is this how my masters felt when they saw me grow and develop? It’s rewarding to see someone you’ve taught and trained become this powerful.
“Uuugh, stop burning my spiderwebs!”
Annabelle was having a hard time. She tried spreading her shadow spiderwebs to trap several creatures, but they constantly burned her webs. Even when she caught one, it broke free quickly.
She needed to train that Skill further to strengthen it. However, in her physical fighting style, without transforming into her giant Chimera form, she was doing just fine.
Her small frame, great agility, and remarkable dexterity and movement abilities helped her evade lethal blows or at least endure a few, while her venom, her deadliest power, constantly paralyzed and stopped monsters from surrounding her, providing support to everyone else.
She also used her Eight Cursed Eyes to inflict curses on multiple foes at once, weakening them to make them easier for Baihe, Kevin, Snow, Violet, and Shiro to kill. Violet was on the frontlines with Fenrir too. Both were wrecking monsters as they came, smashing them to the ground and savagely biting their necks. Violet was enjoying himself. His new transformation made him incredibly tough, shrugging off fire attacks with ease now.
Shiro, meanwhile, attacked from afar. Her flames could burn even these creatures, and her healing support and barriers kept everyone in top condition, as this battle was only going to get more arduous.
“Gotta stay focused, focused!”
I also heard Kevin, seizing this opportunity to train and grow stronger. His holy lance techniques grew more polished with each battle, and he was learning to better control the lance’s trajectory when shot as a projectile, piercing multiple foes at once.
His magic was also developing smoothly, blending with his new martial arts. His entire stance was evolving, becoming more defined, heavier, and stronger. He had been training nonstop with his sister and the rest of the guild, without a doubt.
And me? Well, I combined my Myriad Blade Arts with Love Beams, slicing and piercing through my foes’ hearts, souls, and bodies, leaving only bloody pulps. These monsters were a perfect challenge for my friends, but for me, they were small fry, perhaps comparable to some robots I fought back in Bestia, but nothing too special yet.
In just a few minutes, the horde of Draconic Homunculi was finally pushed back, their numbers dwindling over time.
And yet, Vulcanus’ voice echoed from above, his blazing form manifesting once more.
“Behold, you pathetic primates, the folly of challenging the supreme intellect of Vulcanus, the universe’s unparalleled genius! This world’s crucible has forged you into mildly amusing test subjects, but you’re still beneath me! Feast your eyes on my masterpiece, crafted by the greatest mind existence has ever known! Come forth, my exquisite creation!”
His voice reverberated through the skies as the lake of boiling magma erupted, and a gigantic beast emerged, a chimeric, aberrant creature composed of countless draconic homunculi body parts.
“GRYYAARRRGH!”
It was truly horrendous, with dozens of draconic arms and legs, over five different heads, and numerous tails and wings. It appeared to be in genuine pain, its body searing with runes that held its grotesque form together.
“Gaze upon my Chimera, you insignificant specks! Can a band of primitive creatures like you possibly hope to defeat the pinnacle of my divine craftsmanship? Let’s see you try!”
Vulcanus’ voice thundered with mocking arrogance before he vanished, leaving us to deal with the monstrosity he unleashed. Just perfect.
