2024-09-20 00:14:26 +0000 UTC"2001" is an experience more than a movie and should be seen on a gigantic IMAX screen to reap the full benefit. Since it's light on narrative, it leaves many awed but perplexed. "2010" is an excellent but conventional sequel with a stacked cast that provides answers to many dangling questions and has the monolith fulfill its purpose. They're two different cinematic experiences but both are satisfying adaptations of the Arthur C. Clarke novels.

2024-09-19 06:09:13 +0000 UTCAgreed, "2001" is the one from this list that got my vote.

2024-09-19 04:42:24 +0000 UTC"2001: A Space Odyssey" is a must! Follow it up immediately with its sequel "2010".

2024-09-18 20:30:56 +0000 UTC2001 is tied for second place now FYI.

2024-09-18 15:38:21 +0000 UTCGattaca is a good movie for a future poll. π (Hard to believe 1997 was almost 30 years ago though, man Iβm old!)
Doug
2024-09-18 15:34:31 +0000 UTCYes, unfortunately, people generally struggle with being able to appreciate more abstract art than with more straightforward fare. And you'd think with all these movies with the 'action' tag that Addie's watched over the last few months they'd finally want to go a different route. Apparently not. π€·ββοΈ

2024-09-18 13:45:45 +0000 UTCI still find it amusing that Jude Law wasn't featured at all in the original promotion of "Gattaca" -- because, of course, he was still mostly unknown at the time. But now he's featured just as much - if not more so - in its promotion as Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman in both physical media and streaming services. The only other such shift I've seen is with "Congo," making Laura Linney a much greater focal point in subsequent years. That said, yes, I'll take "Gattaca" over any of these other titles apart from "2001" (and while I think "Minority Report" is one of Steven Spielberg's most overrated films, it's the only other reaction I'd watch among these).
Byrd N. Hand
2024-09-18 11:29:10 +0000 UTCI think watching Addie watch 2001 is the closest we'll get to seeing Addie stoned, the film itself is the drug. π€―

2024-09-18 09:58:36 +0000 UTCI just re-watched Gattaca recently, and I gotta say, still a great watch. I was worried on my re-watch that it wouldn't hold up, but not only does it, but you're right, it's also prescient to where we are now and into the future.

2024-09-18 07:33:42 +0000 UTCOh my god, 2001 is in 4th place right now? It's behind The Day After Tomorrow?" I don't know what to say. Everyone to their own tastes and all, but 2001 is literally one of the best films ever made. It's referenced in other movies, shows and various other media more than I've ever seen other films referenced. If it doesn't somehow pull out of fourth place, I truly think if you have not seen it, you should cover it at some point. It is an important moment in film-making. I mean, there is a whole stupid conspiracy theory about Stanley Kubrick faking the moon landing based on this film!

2024-09-18 06:20:11 +0000 UTCIf it is more recent sci-fi classics we are voting on this time, Gattaca should have been on the list. I feel it is more relevant now than when it was first released in the late '90's. It has already been prophetic in some ways, may be a somewhat accurate depiction of the dystopia we are headed for when designer humans become a reality (probably only for the rich and privileged at first, magnifying their advantage, and subjugated, lower class status for the rest of us). Definitely ripe for reaction and discussion from a quality source such as Addie. I liked Demolition Man, too (looks like that's in the lead), prophetic in a more satirical manner, and though more light-hearted and action packed, sometimes a good mockery of tyrannical, dystopian future paths we were, or still are, headed down. Nearly all the other channels have reacted to this movie, already (only a few for Gattaca), but I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Addie react, as well.

2024-09-18 05:06:16 +0000 UTCShe almost let one slip once. And it was the mother of all pooties. She got 2.5 syllables out.

2024-09-18 02:22:09 +0000 UTCIf Demolition Man wins, I'm just wondering how many fines for breaches of the verbal morality code Addie would get....π€π€·ββοΈππππ (Yes I'm aware that Addie DOESN'T have a potty mouth)

2024-09-17 20:17:24 +0000 UTCIβm just looking forward to this yearβs horror movie lineup. Nothing better than the dulcet tones of Addieβs shrieks and half cusses.
Julian San
2024-09-17 20:16:28 +0000 UTCIt's also the only straight sci-fi film in the poll; everything else is sci-fi/action... and I personally feel she's watched more than enough movies with the 'action' tag over the last couple of months. π€
Byrd N. Hand
2024-09-17 18:47:04 +0000 UTCYeah, my heart breaks a little that it's not a runaway leader in this poll. The most important sci-fi film of all time and pretty much considered Kubrick's one masterpiece.

2024-09-17 18:40:44 +0000 UTCYes. That is all.

2024-09-17 18:23:39 +0000 UTCWesley Snipes being in Demolition Man might explain why itβs seeing some buzz today. π€·ββοΈ (It is a fun movie though.)

2024-09-17 17:34:52 +0000 UTCDEMOLITION MAN is fun. Weird how that movie is making a resurgence. I saw a meme once where someone demonstrated how to use the three sea shells. I think I'd rather use the traditional method. I'm old school like that.
Philip Davetas
2024-09-17 17:15:05 +0000 UTCMaybe she can record more of her thoughts after editing it for YT? Of course, Ashleigh Burton reacted to it 'under the influence.' Maybe Addie could go for that option as well? π€¨
Byrd N. Hand
2024-09-17 17:11:21 +0000 UTCI dunno about 2001. For that film I'd be less interested in a play-by-play reaction than a review after you've had a week to digest it.

2024-09-17 16:53:55 +0000 UTCStill one of my all-time favorites... yet, of course, as of now, the 2 weakest titles are currently in the lead. π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
Byrd N. Hand
2024-09-17 16:40:29 +0000 UTC... in which case it would benefit her to also watch the more straighforward, less abstract sequel "2010: The Year We Make Contact," which, while not on the same level, is still very good for what it is.
Byrd N. Hand
2024-09-17 16:38:06 +0000 UTCVoted for A day after tomorrow, that movie needs to be on the movie reactors map. It hasn't been seen much in the react space and it deserves to!
Thats MR. Baldamort
2024-09-17 16:37:11 +0000 UTCWow, this is a good list! Aside from The Day After Tomorrow I can recommend all of these. I went with 2001 simply because it's one of the best movies of all time (it's literally #1 on Rolling Stones Top Sci Fi Movies of All Time list for example). Plus it would fill in a nice gap in Addie's Kubrick collection (so far she's seen The Shining and Full Metal Jacket, 2001 is suspenseful but not as violent as those.)
Doug
2024-09-17 16:33:48 +0000 UTCSuper stoked Demolition Man is winning! Three Shells or bust!

2024-09-17 16:29:16 +0000 UTCThese are all movies, 2001 is a "film" lol (aka a masterpiece)
Chris Shine
2024-09-17 16:26:00 +0000 UTC2001: A Space Odyssey is an icon in the genre! I can already see Addie's "What's going on?" face... π

2024-09-17 16:23:16 +0000 UTCDay After Tomorrow got my vote, but all these are great!

2024-09-17 16:21:40 +0000 UTCDemolition man is certainly the most fun movie on your list, might be good to save that one for after a depressing movie

2024-09-17 16:20:44 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday, Addie! π All great choices for this poll. I ended up going with "The Day After Tomorrow" for this one. One of my favorite disaster movies. Have a great day today! π

2024-09-17 16:08:27 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday, Addie. All are great choices but my votes go to 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) as your THIRD Stanley Kubrick movie, RoboCop (1987) as your THIRD Paul Verhoeven movie, and Minority Report (2002) with Tom Cruise, as your next Steven Spielberg movie. BTW, I'm going to Universal Studios Hollywood today.
