Give me your holiday recs!

It's almost that time of year! Well, I've been in the holiday spirit already for about a month, but it's almost time for some holiday movies! Give me your holiday movie suggestions! What holiday movies do you think are MUST SEE? What are your favorite holiday movies you watch every year? I've watched a LOT of Christmas movies over the years, but I know there are definitely some that I've missed!

Holiday movies I've watched on the channel:

Die Hard 1 & 2

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

It's a Wonderful Life

A Christmas Story

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Holiday movies I've watched on my own (I'm sure I'm missing some movies that I've already seen, but here are the big ones that I can think of):

Home Alone

Elf

The Santa Clause 1-3

White Christmas

The Polar Express

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Prancer

Jack Frost

The Nightmare before Christmas*

Edward Scissorhands*

*Not necessarily sure if these are considered Christmas movies, but I'm listing them anyway!

Comments

Lets see, The Bishop's wife, not the new one with Denzel, Holiday Inn, The Star, A Charlie Brown Christmas,

Pendragon1951

Fat Man, Home Alone 2 and Gremlins.

Brent Petty

I second an third Klaus...such a great movie and a number one of my son and I

The Astral Nut

First off, hello, and to an old classic, first time commenter, long time watcher, but I'm going to throw in my money for a little Netflix original called Klaus. It is a wonderful, animated movie about the origins of Santa and Christmas, and it is beautiful in all aspects, from animation, to story and music, it has taken my number one spot for favorite Christmas movie. So if you don't watch it as a reaction, at least watch it in your free time, you won't regret it.

RedactedRaptor

I do consider Die Hard a Christmas movie! :) I worded it that way in hopes that it would be understood it's Christmas themed (like a lot of Shane Black movies) but not necessarily about Christmas itself. Also on top of the Christmas "shopping" at the beginning of KKBB I think the party he gets flown out to in LA is a Christmas party. It's less integral to the plot than in Die Hard but still very much part of the film. Cheers!

Tanner

White Christmas (1954) ——— I really appreciate how organized and complete you have everything! I actually found some Marvel shows I haven’t heard of before thanks to you. I was just wondering if there were plans to do ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and the other Marvel shows? Also, while the D.C. Movies are a bit of a mess, I really enjoyed their TV shows, aka: The Arrowverse. They all tie into one another much like the Marvel movies. It’s a great watch and plenty of content that I don’t see many reactors taking advantage of.

Pearl Jam

The night before is a good christmas comedy.

Jayson Phillips

Yes, "Black Christmas" was remade in the '00s, and, like nearly all horror remakes, it's apparently terrible, from what I hear.

Byrd N. Hand

It's a very LA Xmas story about people with no family(or who are mostly cut off from theirs). Alot of it is about surviving Xmas time, both emotionally and physically, as well as coming to terms with yourself, both your failures and accomplishments, not to mention letting in people who care about you.

sarCC

The main character's act at the "beginning" of the movie are tied to him getting something for his daughter for Xmas and that act sets the entire story in motion. The movie's also about how hard it is for some people during the holidays, what Xmas in LA looks like, and how important it is to accept yourself and let other people in. Sounds pretty Xmas-y to me.

sarCC

Wait. Was there a remake of "Black Christmas"? I know I saw a movie with that title, but I was absolutely positive it was a lot more recent than '74. My DAD wasn't even alive yet in '74!

BubblyRainbows

Agreed. They actually do both have numerous connections to the holiday in plot, dialogue AND setting. I feel like you meant that facetiously but both actually have enough connection to Christmas that I would call them Christmas movies. Unlike stuff like "Iron Man 3" or "Lethal Weapon," where if you deleted the very few references to Christmas, the movie would basically be unchanged.

BubblyRainbows

Fantastic movie. I really want to see it on the channel. But the Christmas connection is just... barely there. I would LOVE to see Addie react to it, but it seems a waste to use a Christmas slot for it.

BubblyRainbows

I love that movie! I'd vote for it at a different time of year though. It doesn't really have any connection to Christmas besides taking place at Christmas time. And even that is forgettable. I've seen the movie like 5 times and didn't even remember it was set at Christmas.

BubblyRainbows

Mostly great suggestions there! I hope they all end up on the channel eventually. Personally though, "Enemy of the State" and "Lethal Weapon" aren't Christmas movies in my eyes. They just happen to take place then. I feel like there needs to be a meaningful plot-related connection to the holiday, not just a few "Merry Christmas"es and an occasional Christmas tree in the background.

BubblyRainbows

I always forget to add "The Holiday" for Christmas. For some reason it only comes to mind when I think about New Years.

BubblyRainbows

I consider "Die Hard" a Christmas movie not just because it takes place at Christmas, but also because the plot is enabled because it's Christmas (there's no one in the building except the Christmas party because of the holiday, and John McClaine is in LA visiting for the holiday), because it contains DOZENS of spoken references to the holiday (everything from Ho-Ho-Ho to the whole "Twas the night before Christmas" thing), because they use Christmas music in both soundtrack and score, and because even the set decorations include Christmas trees and lights. People scoff, but Die Hard actually has a ton of tie-ins to the holiday. I know you were being sarcastic and I'm guessing you don't consider "Die Hard" a Christmas movie. So I apologize for my reflexive defense of its Holiday movie status. I absolutely love "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" as a movie, but it has virtually no actual tie-ins to the holiday. I wouldn't equate the two. Of course, everyone seems to have their own idea of what makes a Christmas movie, but for me, just taking place at Christmas isn't enough. ("Critters 2" takes place at Easter, but I wouldn't call it an Easter movie.) Christmas has to feature visually, in dialogue, and also tie in with the plot in some substantial way.

BubblyRainbows

"Gremlins" and "Scrooged." You did Die Hard, which is the third Christmas movie I watch with my dad every Christmas season, now I'd be thrilled if you hit the rest of them!

Honestly, the Muppets just haven't felt the same for me since Jim Henson's death (and Richard Hunt's shortly after). None of his successors have had quite the same touch with them that he did. 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

Really, it's pretty much the same movie as the first -- just that everything is transferred to New York City. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Daddys Home 1 and 2

The Year Without A Santa Claus (1974); Santa Claus vs The Martians (1960's something) is a fun hot mess; Babes In Toyland (1961)

Meet me in St. Louis with Judy Garland

zynjams

Yes to 'Lethal Weapon'! That way she can enjoy it so much and subsequently watch the sequels.

QuigonJim25

Jingle All the Way is a great holiday Arnold Schwarzenegger film you could add to your lineup of True Lies and sci-fi Schwarzenegger. I don't consider it on the level of 90's classics like Home Alone, but it is one of my dad's and my personal favorites and has gained a cult following because of how absurd and fun and over-the-top it is. You'd get a kick out of it, Addie; it is very unique in how it magnifies holiday commercialism and focuses on the more stressful side of the Christmas season. It also has some notable cast members including Phil Hartman from SNL, Jake Lloyd who played the little boy Anakin Skywalker from Episode I, and Harvey Korman had a small role. And Sinbad was a fun antagonist and complemented an already entertaining Arnold quite well. That's my pick this year.

Zachary Huneycutt

I can’t believe I spaced on mentioning A Muppet Christmas Carol. Another vote here!

Billy Dancel

Jingle All the Way is fun

Kirk Andrew Uhl II

Jingle Jangle Klaus Home Alone 2

David Martin

Scrooged is Bill Murray at his best! Also, the long kiss goodnight with Samuel l. Jackson and Geena Davis is awesome

Mark Dahlen

Unlike most people here apparently, I'm not above a re-watch every once in a blue moon -- especially if it's a movie that interests me and/or part of a franchise. Addie's already technically done a few for the channel. I mean, if it's been a long time since a reactor has seen said movie, it often times still comes off as a first watch.

Byrd N. Hand

Muppet Christmas Carol. Scrooged. Home Alone 2.

QuigonJim25

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) Gremlins (1984) Scrooged (1989) Klaus (2019) Love Actually (2003) The Holiday (2006) Miracle on 34th St (1947) And if you really want to mess Addie up: Black Christmas (1974) 😜

For Xmas Suggestions : The Bishop`s Wife 1947 starring Cary Grant, Loretta Young & David Niven, Scrooge 1951 starring Alistair Sim, The Shop Around the Corner 1940 starring James Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, Miracle On 34th Street 1947 (preferred but !994 is almost as good). Like It`s A Wonderful Life or White Xmas these 4 are traditional Old fashioned Xmas Fare. The first two & M.O. 34th St, on Xmas Eve, if I can. I think, you would enjoy them, they really represent Xmas as I knew it, even as a kid in the U.K. in the `60`s. (Xmas shop window display`s were still more important than Tv ad`s then.)

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Home Alone 2. It’s the best of the originals

Jesse Shadows

I 2nd the musical Scrooge (1970) and Holiday Inn, the movie that introduced the song White Christmas to the world.

3dbadboy1

The Santa Clause was always my second favorite after Die Hard but I assume most reactors have seen it like most of the Christmas classics

John A

Yes please to both!

LOTR4ever

"A Long Kiss Goodnight" is a holiday movie in the same way that "Die Hard" is :)

The Dingo

Not really a holiday movie but takes place during, but I think Kiss Kiss Bang Bang could be fun! RDJ and Val Kilmer really killed it in that movie!

JerichoFalls

Cosign on Muppet Christmas Carol! As CinemaSins put it, it's "the greatest Muppets movie ever made, it's the greatest Christmas Carol movie ever made, and it's arguably the greatest Christmas movie ever made!"

Andrew Harrison

“The Night Before” (2015, comedy—Seth Rogan, Anthony Mackie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt) "Trading Places” (1983, comedy—Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd) “Lethal Weapon” (1987, action—Mel Gibson, Danny Glover)

Mr. Writhms

Scrooged, The night before and Miracle on 34th Street (newer version)

Jayson Phillips

Well I also think that is a top choice! 😂

Ali D

Miracle on 34th Street (1947) The Bishop's Wife (1948) A Christmas Carol (1951) White Christmas (1954) Scrooge (1970) The Family Man (2000) Love Actually (2003) Arthur Christmas (2011)

Luis Fernandez

Byrd Waste a viewing slot on a re-watch?

Bill W

Definitely have to watch Muppet Christmas Carol. Yes it has some silly Muppet stuff(which I love, don't get me wrong), but it's also my favorite adaptation of the story, Michael Caine's sublime performance as Scrooge will break your heart. The other must-watch every Christmas for me is A Charlie Brown Christmas. And if you want something that's a bit less "family-friendly", The Ref starring Dennis Leary. :)

Patrick Egan

The Holiday (with Jack Black), The Family Stone, technically The Long Kiss Goodnight, Muppets are always good (so Muppets Christmas Carol), Scrooged, the Albert Finney musical Scrooge from the 70s, Love Actually

Rusty Childers

I think I've made it clear in the replies that I vote for The Muppet's Christmas Carol.

Highly recommend George C. Scott "A Christmas Carol". Even just as something to watch without a reaction. not necessarily as much "fun" as some of the others. more serious. but, considering i thought it was impressive and well done as a child, i would suggest it. personally love Muppet Christmas Carol. be quite good for a reaction. and, as long as i'm sticking with that theme.....Bill Murry "Schrooged" (mid to late 80's) is kind of fun take on it too.

Sensei Dave

Scrooged (with Bill Murray) and Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

Daniel Goldberg

"Love Actually" is a Chrismas Classic with a great Cast. Think you would love it Addie 😀

PHILLIP CORNISH

I have two recommendations: Krampus (2015) & A Muppet's Christmas Carol.

Jingle all the way! (1996)

If she's going to do "Home Alone 2," I'd just as soon have her re-watch the original movie first.

Of these… ELF The Polar Express White Christmas (you’ll be dealing with a lot of songs to edit) Klaus and A Christmas Story Christmas are my additional favorites and recommendations.

Gotta go with the 1947 original instead.

I second the movie Scooged with Bill Murray.

-"Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) -"A Christmas Carol" (1951) -"Scrooge" (1970) -"Trading Places" -"Gremlins" (as long as you also watch the non-holiday sequel in the new year) -"Lethal Weapon" (your potential replacement for "Die Hard" this year; again, as long as you also watch the non-holiday sequels in the new year) -"Scrooged" -"Batman Returns" (as long as you watch 1989's "Batman" first) I'd also include the original "Black Christmas" from 1974, but, seeing as it's a horror flick, I'm not going to hold out hope that you'll include it in a poll.

Byrd N. Hand

8 bit Christmas, a movie about reminiscing about the 1980s Christmas, a modern a Christmas story style comedy about wanting a game console and the lengths children will go to get a prized gift.

zynjams

And I really love the Bill Murray comedy “Scrooged.”

Alex Ch

You've seen Iron Man 3 as well and all his (Shane Black) movies have Christmas in them including Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (RDJ and Val Kilmer).

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) is a Christmas movie like Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

My annual watches are “White Christmas” (as listed), “The Long Kiss Goodnight” (action/thriller), and “Gremlins” (comedy/mild horror)
