THE MUMMY RETURNS - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to The Mummy Returns! This movie was a lot of fun, and it was great to see this cast together again! Enjoy!

Warning: some minor spoilers below!

I LOVED seeing more of Rick and Evelyn in this one, and their SON (!!!!) was such a cute combination of them! BUT can we talk about the CGI of the Scorpion King?? Hahaha

A few links regarding the VFX in The Mummy films, especially the Scorpion King animation. This first discusses the VFX in a bunch of films and includes the Scorpion King. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWOm1wxOjmQ&t=888s This video is a discussion of VFX from the first film, where one of the reactors was the VFX Art Director on the film for ILM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lKBaK-Q40Y This video includes a bunch of different films again, but one of the commentors was a VFX artist for ILM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8JgN_srwCc Finally, in this video, the Corridor Crew uses modern techniques like deep fakes to redo the Scorpion King shot. They make it look pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH1V6CHO1Jk

everybody acts like the 3rd movie belongs on mystery science theater 3000.

I know I am in the minority but I definitely enjoyed the third one quite a bit

Jake Steffen

You know it’s notoriously bad when even the Crimson Countess points out the PlayStation CGI on the Scorpion King!

Julian San

the third one was strange without Rachel Weisz but the trade off is you get Jet Li as the bad guy.

zynjams

Its also by the same director.

I didn't mind most of the same cast in a new-ish story. The addition of the scorpion king, IMO, was so he would get his own movie out of it. As for the third mummy movie, it's in the same category as the scream sequels, you don't need to mark off those boxes.

Billy Dancel

I love anything Ancient Egyptian so I'm a sucker for this movie. I got to work on a book about Ancient Egypt so that was super fun.

Steve SG-1

A great monster movie is van Helsing. With hugh Jackman

Alexey Hansen

For me, the third Mummy movie is a huge let down because of the constant reminder of the great sucking void that the lack of Rachel Weisz.

Thomas Yanez

The delayed kneeling "Noooo!" after the Scorpion King is stabbed is priceless. I'll vote for stopping this series here. Nothing against Maria Bello but Evie wasn't a great fit. I'd suggest watching The Scorpion King only if you intend to watch the sequels as well... if you are thinking of diving into bad movies, take a deep dive!

Luis Fernandez

Honestly, kudos to Rachel Weisz for having the good sense to not return for the third one.

Yeah, the CGI for the Scorpion King - as well as the Pygmies - is a huge bone of contention for me (and many others); even back in 2001 it looked bad. But the fact that much of this was just a rehash of the first movie was even more problematic for me (e.g. instead of a wall of sand, we get a wall of water from Imhotep this time), and, I mean, if Evie was really a reincarnation of a character from that ancient time, why did she not get any sort of inkling from the events from the first movie?? πŸ€·β€β™‚ Kudos to Rachel Weisz, though, for having enough sense to not come back for the third one. I applaud her for generally only taking on more genuinely interesting projects after this movie -- outside of "Envy" and "Black Widow."

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 Excited that you're continuing on with the "Mummy" trilogy. This is my favorite of two sequel movies. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

Yeah, the CGI for the Scorpion King is famously terrible. I don't know if they were rushed or what. The biggest critique of this movie is that it focused too much on the creatures, not enough on the actual human characters. The Scorpion King standalone movie can definitely be skipped, it just wasn't very good. But I hope you do watch the third Mummy movie(Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor), it's pretty fun and smartly takes the story in a new direction.

Patrick Egan

This is not as good as the first movie but its still fun. This was The Rock's first movie if I remember right. I liked the references to the original The Mummy from the 1932. The first movie was a remake of that.

Happy Wednesday, Addie. The Mummy Returns (2001) is a nice follow-up to the first film, despite the crappy CGI of the Scorpion King near the end. Turns out, they didn't have enough resources to animate Dwayne Johnson's likeness at the time. My favorite scene in the movie is the double-decker bus chase. I totally agree with you that Rick & Evy's son, Alex, has traits of them, and his scenes with Evy's brother, Jonathan, are hilarious throughout, as well as when Imhotep cries out "NOOOOOO!" when Rick stabs the Scorpion King. And yes, there were TWO snake scenes in this one. Now (I don't care what anyone says) you should watch The Scorpion King (2002) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). #MoreMummyForAddieCounts
