I recommend just rewatching this episode so you wont be so confused lol just keep in mind that the dwarf in the flask is father and not pride and the city that was sacrificed was called xerxes. They talk about it a few times in previous episodes how the ancient city of xerxes in the middle of the desert just disappeared overnight and now you know why. Ed was attacked by those ishavalans in the ruins of xerxes remember?

2025-11-03 20:30:04 +0000 UTCI mentioned this back when you watched the episodes from the '03 anime, but back then, the actually decided to get a real 12-year-old boy in to be the voice actor for Al. When it came time to do the Vocie acting for Brotherhood, they managed to get almost all the original Voice actors back to reprise their roles; with Alphonse being one of the 2 big exceptions on account of having gone through a little bit too much puberty to properly do that voice anymore. That said; they still wanted him back in some form, so they ended up bringing him back to be able to voice Young Hohenheim in this episode. Which I think is pretty fun! So you go back to the very first Opening for this show; the entire first 15 seconds is actually a speedrun through Hohenheim's entire life. You see the Philosophers Stone transmutation circle, you actually see young Hohenheim, (which absolutely no one recognises because everyone just think its Ed; they actually look so much alike) then you see his wife, and then you see the moment he had to walk out on Ed and Al. They pretty much spoiled the entire backstory of his character, and they managed to do it in Episode *1* of this show, and no-one noticed. It is genuinely incredible, and I just dream of being able to write things that are hidden in plain sight as well as this series does.

2025-11-03 00:44:38 +0000 UTCAlso, Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim was the real name a famous alchemist, better known as Paracelsus. He was the man who is credited with the quote "All things are poison, and nothing is without a poison, the dosage alone makes it so a thing is not a poison".
