TM-TM intro music

The intro song is usually among the first of the soundtrack that I choose bar the music for sequences that push me to make the video in the first place. In fact, the intro sequence itself is usually the first piece of the video I create, predating even the script (The intro sequence for Scale of Volcanoes was created in March of last year, crazy I know).

Along with Nuclear Sideshows, however, TV Movie and its Tornado Machine is an exception, and despite a substantial portion of the script being done already I have yet to even commit fully to a song. Back when I was still editing SoV I was flip flopping between using either Alan Parsons Project's Can't Take it With You or El Dementia by The Surfdusters.

Can't Take it With You was my original preference because I felt the beginning of the song offered chances to create a more visually complex sequence rather than purely showing fullscreen or boxed footage (like Sideshows or SoV). However, outside of being a fun song (among my favorites really) the lyrics don't really have any major thematic connection to the video and I feel that would be a little odd.

El Dementia is an amazing, fast paced piece of music that was used several times in Spongebob (yall know I love my Spongebob music), and the surfing aesthetic I feel compliments storm chasing in a great way. My issue with it, however, is it doesn't provide the same framework for a complex sequence that Can't Take it With You does. I'm not an audiovisual theorist, so the best way I can describe is the song feels very "flat" without many twists and turns, like driving fast down an open highway road and the only thing changing is the camera angle. As a result, my natural instinct is to just put large chunks of movie footage back to back to back. A cool sequence could come out of that, but it's not really what I want to go with.

Option three hit me today. I've been listening to Rocket Sled To Oahu by The Mel-Tones on repeat and I think it's giving me the best of both worlds. The song is just screaming dynamic visuals at me. I'm really leaning towards it at the moment, but we'll have to see. I could make multiple sequences and see which I like the best, but in a way I'm hesitant to do that because it might make choosing one even harder.

This might be a stretch, but maybe you could shorten Can’t Take it With You so that the intro connects to the solo somehow. I’ve never edited audio or tried something like that so I’m not sure how feasible it’d be. I really like El Dementia too, but I see what you mean about it being “flat.” Rocket Sled to Oahu is another great choice, I could definitely imagine it being a Rojofern intro song. I’m impartial to anything you do really, I know I’ll enjoy it regardless of the song.

I like Rocket Sled to Ohau but youtube then kicked a different song my way after that was a little more dynamic, Kung Fu Saturdays. Same album, same artist. Might want to check that out. Take your time bossman, cant wait to see the vid!

I get Pecos Hank vibes from The Melt ones. If you don't know who he is, he is a storm chaser and has an amazing YouTube channel. I think he writes his own music for his videos, but he has that gifted ability to choose songs well with the visuals, like you.
