Friday Rambles 2025-11-07

It's the first Friday of November. Spooky season is over, and now it's Christmas season. It's not too early to put up a tree yet, I guess. I'm the type to put one up in late December and then keep it there until, like, March, though.

Game Dev/Cool New Bag Stuff

I got some real gamedev done this week. A cool new bag changes everything, as they say. I put my laptop in my cool new bag and took it to places, where I would plop down and write a bunch of brainstorm words and dialogue. I wrote some scenes and they seem... acceptable! I imagine there will be a lot of massaging and rewriting to do once there's more volume, but I just wanna get something down, first.

One of the scenes I wrote was the intro. I'm not sure this will be the actual intro of Game 2, but I still built some tools that will be useful later if I do change it.

Of course, with all the caveats that every part of this is temporary dev artwork and text and may not resemble anything close to what's in the final game. And it'll have more "juice" as they call it in the biz. Also, it'll be in color. Probably. Unless I decide not to. In any case, it'll be pretty easy to add or remove things, since it's all rebuilt from the ground up to be more flexible and maintainable.

I figured the game would need a recap to continue the story, just in case players didn't play the first one or just needed a reminder about what happened in it. Since it's a sequel and all. But as I build out more story and words it'll become more clear whether it's actually necessary or not. At least it sets the stage for the first act.

The next scene is Penny and Whiskey throwing out ideas for sequels that all suck. Uh oh! It's hard to make a good sequel and the fledgling game studio is in trouble unless they hurry up and make something. And so, art is uncomfortably close to reality once again. But then a bunch of other stuff happens that I don't want to spoil quite yet. But I think I'm feeling it. That's right! I'm feeling... Inspired!!

Oldheads will remember that I keep making and sharing prototypes of doomed Game2 ideas, but the thing I'm working on now is more purely story focused rather than weird gimmicks or minigames or big system changes or whatever, so I'm actually feeling pretty good about it. Back to basics, as they say.

Not Game Dev Stuff

I started jogging again this week after taking a long break during my trip. I wake up and I get super excited to just run. I like running. Maybe that's why I'm feeling creative again. Or maybe it's because of my cool new bag.

The End

I will now be focusing even more on getting actual story written down into video game form. We might even be able to advance a plot of some sort. And interact with people, places, and things. All the code for that is in, for the most part. But I don't want to get too ahead of myself here.

Cool Intro, feels very alive with all the animation. Personally, I think it could use having a burger, but that's just me.

thank you!! i exported the gif in 15fps down from the smooth 60fps it is in real life, but the lower fps for the pictures actually feels more appropriate for the art style so i just update it to be like that in game too lol. looks like it's animated on 2s like an anime or something.
