Return of the Obra Dinn VR mod

Or an attempt at it. Watch the video to learn about the mod. You can download it in the attachments as usual, but don't expect much from it 😉.

Return of the Obra Dinn VR mod

Thanks so much for replying. I work as a web dev, but your video has sparked my interest in seeing if I can get a "VR view" mod working just as a fun learning experience, especially for a game LIKE Gone Home, because imo VR needs more story walking sims like Firewatch. I don't think I would be interested in diving in as deep as you do, but it would be cool to see random unity games through the headset. I generally prefer these types of mods to things like Vorpx for obvious reasons. Thanks for responding, and the mods you create. One thing I am finding annoying is that when I Google around on these topics, I don't get a ton of results. Not used to that lol.

I think I actually tried patching that game at some point too, but don't remember the outcome. If you use BepInEx and enable the logs, you should be able to see if there are any error messages that may be causing those issues. Unity Explorer also allows you to read logs, but it might be loaded too late to read the errors you need to see.

Edit: I solved the first issue listed below. I only have openvr in the build settings now, and steam allows it to launch. Now I just see it with one eye and cannot load in. Progress I guess. I know you didn't mean this as a tutorial, but I'd still love some tips! I still need to do the unity explorer steps but thanks for sharing this stuff! I finally got around to trying this myself today. I had a question if you could take a sec to help. I was trying to do this for Gone Home, because I really wanted to try it in VR. I copied the plugin .dll files over, and modified globalgamemanagers using UABEA. I confirmed the build setting spot specified in the video had openvr and oculusvr properly. Whenever I launch with Quest 2 + Link, I just get the loading hour glass forever. Any tips? I think it's important to note that Oculus Home always launches the game. I am really interested in doing the basic conversions described in your video, and have learned a lot just from this attempt, but I thought I could use a small nudge.

I wasn't when I started, but I became pretty much immune to VR sickness while developing NomaiVR. So many nauseating bugs, just served as intensive training.

Appreciate the walk through video. I did investigate flat-screen to VR modding myself, though I'm experimenting non-Unity games with reverse engineering of game code and injection of VR tracking... kind of works, but is definitely messy. I can relate to your VR injection breaking games, lol. For me I run into motion sickness when attempting to develop, kind of drains the motivation when you get physically ill. I assume you're one of those iron-stomach people that are pretty immune to motion sickness? For me it's pretty bad, makes me want to concentrate on other projects and just enjoy the fruits of labor from people like yourself. The finalized, more polished results are less sickness inducing.

Great effort! Did you try reaching out to Lucas Pope? Perhaps he would be willing to help you?
