The Psychology of the Menendez Bros (Chapter 2: Pre-Murders)

Comments

I went to Calabasas High in the late 90s. I always used to hear about how the Menendez brothers had gone there (among other celebrities).

Another interesting angle is the mockery they got for disclosing their abuse. I seem to remember a Saturday Night Live skit from that era.

Julia Smith

Berto, will we get to see Dr. K reaction to the brothers abuse testimony from Court TV? Or even testimony from the various psychologists who testified on their behalf? Like during a follow-up episode or something?

really fascinating to hear Humberto talk about the social disparities in Colombia. my parents immigrated from Lima, Peru and it's very similar there—and it's so hard to explain that Limean middle-class mentality to Americans. it's almost like a Real Housewives attitude but even from people who would for sure not make it in Beverly Hills. i have a lot of first-gen-baby issues, but i think that one thing i really appreciate about growing up here is the awareness of privilege and levels of oppression it has given me. i don't known if i would be as empathetic towards others about it if i'd grown up middle-class in Peru; i'd probably just take my circumstances as a given.

There are moments where I seriously think Dr Honda is trolling us and really knows a lot about the case and knows which buttons to push 😂
