Hey Kirk, not sure if this is off base, and I know you were trying to portray how much you enjoyed Anora’s lead actor. But, your shock at learning that Mikey Madison is an actor (and not a sex worker) by trade is interesting. Maybe I am being sensitive and this is how you often feel about good actors. But, it doesn’t seem likely that you often assume the lead characters of a film were plucked from their day job to act in that role. And I’m sure you’re not the only person who felt this way about Mikey in Anora, so I wonder if as a society we react to certain (usually femme) actors who are phenomenal, with misplaced awe as to the reason they are so convincing in their roles.

I wish more people were talking about the politics of employer/employee relationships portrayed in Babygirl. Yes, it’s portraying kink, but to me sex positivity wasn’t the gestalt of the film.
