Attachment Emails (2021 Rerun)

Comments

10 years lost with a CBT "therapist" who couldn't even tell the patient's difficulty stemmed from attachment issues. Unfortunately, this is common and plenty of us have been sold CBT/DBT as psychotherapy, and led on for years by these practicionners who don't understand what they’re doing. I quit therapy after having had CBT. I couldn't believe the lack intelligence, critical thinking, curiosity and knowledge about basic psychology concepts. The way they tell you that you are the problem is seriously harmful and I ended up spiraling really bad. I wouldn't be surprised if these "therapists" had led people to quit therapy or even worse, suicide. We seriously need to stop calling CBT facilitators therapists, they are not and shouldn't be treating people with actual conditions. They should stick to the run-of-the-mill mild depression and anxiety that's part of everyone's lives. Facilitators should not be allowed to be near clients who have actual conditions unless under a real psychotherapist's supervision. I'm glad that I found your channel, I now see that the world isn't doomed and that there are still psychotherapists who know what they're talking about. It seems like it's mostly the US system that has gone down in terms of mental health. Thinking of moving back to Europe to be able to get actual treatment from an actual psychotherapist for my bpd.
