Ladyworld (Verse)

Here's a continuation of last week's lesson, as we continue to dig into the ultra fun song of Ladyworld. While in the same song, the part itself is very different from the chorus part we learned last time. So turn off that distortion, get your cleanest sparkliest sound ready, and let's go!

....

It's funny how many things come from a simple place conceptually. You've maybe seen this A minor pentatonic scale shape pop up on this page before, and here it is again. This is the source of the meat and potatoes of this part.

---------------------------------8-10/12---
--------------------------8-10-------------
-------------------5-7/9-------------------
--------------5-7--------------------------
-------3-5/7-------------------------------
--3-5--------------------------------------

A good 80% of this part is just taking place on the middle 2 strings (G and D).

The figure itself is just a funky idea with muted picked notes, slides, and all those groovy knick knacks.

...

The first exception to our meat n potatoes pentatonic is when we go down to:

-------------------
-------------------
-------------------
--3-2-3-2-3-2----
----------------3--
-------------------

(Wait, did someone say potatoes? I'm hungry) It's good to try and make these notes sound choppy and quick. Of course your 1st and 2 fingers will be bouncing back and forth here. For the theory heads, this is just 3 different notes - F, E, and C which are all in an A minor scale, so no major departure from the previous pentatonic scale shape, just a different location to find new goofy licks.

...

At the end there is a somewhat ridiculous sounding country lick:

--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------7p0----9-------11--------14-
--------------------------------------
-7-8-9------10------12--------15----
--------------------------------------
 d u  d  m     d   m       d  m          d   m

Wrote the pick strokes underneath because that's important: d = down, u = up, m = middle finger. Fun fact, when you mix your middle finger into pickstrokes it's sometimes called chicken pickin'! Haha.

For the theory heads, this one deviates quite a bit from the scale as there's a D major chord so there's a few F# notes thrown in to fit the chord a lil' better.

...

Have fun with this. I'm gonna go eat some potatoes now.
