Synthesize Her (Bridge Lead)

This week's lesson is a solo that's almost halfway to a being a shred lord tier vid! Usually I'll go totally ham in a solo, but this one is more restrained. So it's a good one to learn if you're someone who maybe hasn't yet swam in the ocean of guitar solos but want to get your feet wet.

This is a great opportunity to work on techniques like vibrato, hammer ons, and slides. Pay close attention to my technique in the video. Notice that I typically wait a beat or two into a note before I apply vibrato? This is one of the most crucial elements of having a vocal-like quality to your playing.

Theory-wise, this is all in the key of C# minor. Interestingly, the whole scale can be played along the 2nd string, which is where I play the majority of the part. When needed, I'll reach down to the lower strings to grab notes during quicker passages, since it'd be too awkward to shift around quickly on the single string.

--------------------------------------------
---2---4---5---7---9---10---12---14---
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------

At the end, I abandon this concept and the very last run is essentially just playing down strings 2-6 of a G# major barre chord, one note at a time. There's a good chance you'll recognize the chord shape:

4

5
6

Soloing and chord playing have a lot in common actually. There's countless times where I'll take a chord shape, and split the notes up into a lead like this. Try it out!
