Apple Nonsense

So I thought that I would take a moment to inform all of you of something that I have noticed recently.

Among all of this nonsense going on with payment processors and Steam, I have noticed Apple doing some weird stuff too. You may or may not know this, but Apple started charging a 30% transaction fee to any purchase made through an app on the Apple Store. I may not have that quite right, but what it meant was that if you used the Patreon app on any Apple device to purchase a subscription to a Patreon page then you were charged 30% more than everybody else.

I have never been a big fan of Apple, but I also never had anything against them. If you prefer to use Apple products, then I fully support your choice but you might want to consider purchasing your Patreon subscriptions some other way.

That extra processing fee seemed really strange to me, but now something else has come up. For the last few months, I have noticed that about $200 of my payout has been held back at the end of each month. So I did some investigating, and the amount being held back is because of Apple.

Because not only are they charging you 30% for the privilege of using their Store, but it can take them up to 75 days to process the transaction.

I want you to read that again.

And then read it again.

That's right! In this digital age of instant transactions, it takes Apple two and a half months to process a $3 transaction after charging you 30% to process it.

Now if you think that is reasonable in any way, shape, or form, then I have some desert land in Florida to sell you. :P

Seriously though, this means that a significant amount of money is being held back from me for almost 3 months at the end of every month simply because it's coming from Apple transactions.

I don't blame the users. I really don't. I am happy to have you here! :)

But I think you should consider purchasing your subscriptions any other way than through the Patreon App from the Apple Store. It costs more, for no reason, and actually holds money back from the people you are trying to support.

I just thought you should know. :)

It is likely something along those lines, yes.

If it's being done across the board, I suspect they are earning interest on it in the short-term cash market.

It's not a big deal in some regards, but it just seems super weird to me. It just shouldn't take that long to process a transaction.

Mr. Phoenyxx

Yeah, I see that too now that mentioned :/
