Homegrown 0.3.1 - Buying more land!

In this update there's a new feature that allows you have much bigger gardens, one new vegetable for you to grow, and collectible trophies!

Gamer Tier+ patrons can download and play Homegrown here.

And for Programmer Tier+ patrons the code is available here.

Buying Land

The big new feature this month is the ability to expand your garden area by buying more land. To do this, click on one of the wooden signs in a neighboring plot of land. The plots of land get progressively more expensive each time you buy one.

Admittedly it's currently quite tough to manage very large gardens with the current tools/composts/seeds in the game. Over the next few updates there will be a lot more upgrades available that will make it easier to manage larger areas. For now, your best bet is to upgrade all your tools and grow mostly leeks, as they require the least amount of work.

Patreon Collectibles

As a bit of fun, I've introduced collectible trophies into the game! Each new version of the game will have a different trophy that you can buy for 9,999 coins in the tool shop in the town area. Once placed in your garden, that trophy will be permanently unlocked and will spawn in your storage in all future saves.

From now on, the trophies you own are saved in a file called "achievements.dat" which you can find in the game files. You'll have to copy and paste this file into the new game files when you download future versions of the game if you want it to remember which trophies you've unlocked.

For this version the trophy is still the "golden carrot", which has been in the game since the start. However, this is the last version of the game that you'll be able to unlock it in - next update will have a different trophy for you to collect!

New Vegetable: Leeks!

There's one new vegetable in this version, the leek! This is currently the most expensive vegetable in the game and is very easy to look after, requiring very little work. However, it's a very slow grower!

Trees

Now that your farm area can expand, it's possible for you to acquire land that contains trees. For now, the trees simply take up space and you're not able to farm or place anything in the 4 tiles around them. However, it will soon be possible to cut down the trees, clearing the space for more vegetables and providing you with logs that you can sell.

Coming soon...

Next up I've got a bit of work to do on the entity system to allow for some new types of objects. There are going to be "helper objects" which will include things like canes for plants such as tomatoes to grow up, and "connecting objects" that can connect up such as placeable fences. I also hope to implement that tree-cutting feature as well.

Thanks as always for the support!
