GLOBAL STRIKE IN SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE

If you don't know, Bisan and Motaz have called for a global strike today in solidarity with Gaza, and to put pressure on for an immediate ceasefire. The UN General Assembly is going to be meeting tomorrow, as the US was the single veto vote on the Security Council (save for the UK, who abstained) -- so Resolution 377 has been invoked as the UN has determined the security council failed to "exercise its primary responsbility for the maintenance of international peace and security."

I say this to encourage you to join this general strike both today and tomorrow if you are able -- please refrain from spending any money (in person or online), banking, going to work or school (call in sick if you are able to do so), focus exclusively on amplifying Palestinian voices on all your socials over these two days, and continue to contact your representatives to demand an immediate ceasefire.

I wanted to bring this up to also offer context as to why I am still working today -- I am in a very fortunate position where I am able to keep doing some of my own work things while simultaneously participating in this strike in full, which leads me to--

I understand that y'all come to me for comfort and escapism, but I truly believe that it is possible (and necessary) to seek comfort while remaining engaged in with the world around you -- I know numbness to all the horrors of the world (and right now, in particular, to the ongoing genocide in Palestine) is extremely tempting, and easy to fall into, but cultivating the ability to maintain hope, outrage, and empathy within your day to day life is a vital skill that is imperative to maintaining community and solidarity with your fellow humans.

It may seem like a silly analogy, but thinking of them genuinely helps me: the Phantom Thieves (from Persona 5) work against the apathy of humanity in regards to its own end and horrors (this is the theme of all the Persona games, to be fair, but it feels most acute in 5). So channel your inner phantom thief, and fight against the apathy and injustice of the world in what ways you can, while also doing your homework and chores and hanging out with your friends and going about your daily life.
