Envoy of Jashin (I) [Chapter 30]

I slowly stirred and I immediately winced in pain… “Ugh…” A painful groan escaped my lips as I tried to open my eyes, but I could barely open my eyes. Thankfully, my memories came rushing back and once again, I winced. I felt like I was run over by a truck and that was saying something.

“Raijin! We are finally up!” I cringed at the loud voice. I have no idea how long I was out for, but my ears were still ringing. “Don’t move, you are fucked up pretty bad” Namaikina came rushing at me and leaned down over me… Her face was kind of blurry, which was understandable considering I could barely open my eyes.

“How long?” I barely managed to croak out and I sounded nothing like myself. The fuck happened to my voice?

“Nearly 12 hours” Namaikina answered before she held something in front of my face. “Here, have some water” And I hungrily chugged the water even though my throat was hurting like a bitch.

“Where are we?” I asked after she finally removed the canteen from my mouth. My voice was still a bit croaky, but I was feeling much better after drinking the water.

“We are still inside the temple. The two of you are in no shape to move” Namaikina answered as she sat down beside me. My vision was still blurry, but it was starting to become clear.

“It’s a risk” I croaked out. The temple was not as abandoned as we thought before and I don’t think we were in shape to face another Jonin. The only reason we were still alive was because the Jonin underestimated us and he wanted to capture us alive. Even his subordinates were completely useless or we would have been dead right now.

“Yeah, I know, but Yoruichi agreed that we don’t have any other choice. I have already bobby-trapped the entrances with explosive tags” Namaikina answered grimly and even though I didn’t like it, I decided to simply roll with it as I had no other choice. It would be foolish to leave a shelter in our current condition even though our current shelter was being used by a cult.

“Where’s Yoruichi?” I asked before releasing another groan. Jesus fucking Christ, I was feeling like my whole body was on fire.

“She is asleep” Namaikina answered as she glanced toward the side, but I failed to follow her gaze as I could barely move my head.

“So, how bad it is?” I asked after a few moments of silence.

“You have a broken nose, a fractured jaw, your face is badly bruised, some missing teeth, a minor fracture in your neck, your sternum is fractured along with a couple of your ribs on the back and the front That’s it!” Namaikina finished with a nod of her head while counting with her fingers. Holy cow!! She probably missed a concussion or two, but considering she wasn’t a Medic, she did pretty well.

“Yoruichi is in a much better shape than you. She has a stab wound on her left shoulder and her shoulder is kind of messed up thanks to that, but she will be alright with time, and a couple of her ribs are fractured too, but she will be good to go in a couple of days” Namaikina explained after I finished disgesting the report she gave me.

“...Did you get to fight anyone?” I asked after a couple of seconds. I knew that she was looking forward to being able to kill people.

“Oh yes, but my opponents were worse than Genins even though they were older than me” Namaikina answered happily. “Still, I felt amazing when I killed them” Namaikina crowed with a fanatical look on her face. Even though my vision was still slightly blurry, I could easily see that her face was slightly flushed.

Yeah… I am not touching that with a ten-foot pole. I already knew that she was slightly disturbed in the head, but I didn’t know that she was a perverted psychopath…

“Then I am glad you had your fun” I said after a moment, making her smile even more. “You hid the bodies, right?” I asked, remembering that we needed to remain low-key.

“Of course. I am not stupid!” Namaikina gave me a bland look. “By the way, how is the pain? Do you want a painkiller?” She asked curiously as she started to inspect my injuries.

“Yeah. A painkiller would be nice” I answered, getting a nod from her. I hope that the beatdown didn’t mess up my eyes. Namaikina placed a small tablet in my mouth and I simply swallowed the thing without much fanfare. While grinding the tablet in my mouth would have given me better results, I could barely move my jaw.

“Good. Go to sleep. Both of you need it” Namaikina caressed my head lovingly before she stood up. “I will keep an eye out” She added as I saw her walk away. After that, it didn’t take me long to fall asleep…

~~Timeskip~~ (Two days later)

I slowly opened my eyes and pushed myself off from my makeshift bed. It has been two days since my unfortunate beatdown and I was already much better than before. It still hurt to breathe, but I was healing much faster than I should have in my past life. “What are you doing?” I asked Yoruichi as I noticed the thing in her hands.

Thankfully, the gamble paid off and we weren’t visited by any more cultists, which allowed us to recover pretty nicely. “I was bored” Yoruichi answered dismissively as she continued to read the scroll in her hands. It was the same scroll we were sent to grab. I wonder if the secret to immortality is written in there.

I slowly walked up to and sat down beside her so that I could also read the contents of the scroll. The secret to immortality was written in there, along with the requirements to become the envoy of Jashin. Considering the canon, I wasn’t going to call it hogwash. “Do you think this is real?” Yoruichi asked after a couple of minutes.

“There is only one way to find out” I answered while giving her a meaningful look…
