While I’m not very familiar with Ōkami (though I’ve heard many good things about it), Amaterasu, the Sun God of Nippon, is a character I’ve seen requested from time to time, either by the audience or by artists I work with. I also really enjoy stories with a strong spiritual vibe.

I’ve looked a bit into the lore — just on a surface level for now (I’d dig deeper if the opportunity to work on a comic about her ever came up). From what I’ve gathered, she does end up having a son, Chibiterasu, but his father is never revealed. Some suggest it might be Waka; others say it could be Okikurumi, who also has a wolf form.

However, based on the spiritual themes of the game — and even the original religious inspirations behind it — I was thinking of portraying a union between Amaterasu (as the present) and Shiranui (as the past). From my understanding, Shiranui was the wolf that Amaterasu later takes as her physical form. So, in a way, they are the same entity, yet two distinct ones (male and female) at the same time.

Apparently, Shiranui is even described as a separate being during Chibiterasu’s journey. So I thought: what if the past (Shiranui) and the present (Amaterasu) united to create a better future (Chibiterasu)? I’m not sure if it fully fits the established lore — I’d need to research more — but at least it could preserve the spiritual essence of the source material.

After all, Amaterasu is a divine figure of purity; portraying her engaging in sex for the sake of boobs would go against that representation. But if her union serves a cosmic purpose, it feels far more appropriate, in my opinion.
