Mad Cat MKIV Concept Sketch
Added 2023-12-26 07:31:57 +0000 UTCIf the Timber Wolf was the "must get right" of the Clan Invasion era, we once again come upon that task in the Dark Age with the Mad Cat MkIV, the Savage Wolf.
Alex Iglesias and I had done some revision work on the design way back on some 3145 era book covers. Then much more recently Marco Mazzoni came up with a redesign for use in new ilClan era books and covers.
Now the mech was slated to once again show up in Legends II, and Brent Evans wanted a more tidied up sculpt for our 3D based illustrators to use, and probably predicting we'd be making a plastic version of it before too long, it was best to get a final full redesign completed before any further publications of the design.
So here we are. I took the best parts of the original clix, Alex's, Marco's, mine, and some references to our modern Timber Wolf, and the Mad Cat MkII, which the Savage wolf had taken some parts from originally. Combined all of that together into hopefully the best version of MkIV so far.
Now the design has been announced as part of the final Star League miniatures pack, so this redesign effort is already paying off.

The big problem with the Savage Wolf is that it just doesn't look 75t. It feels like a redrawn Mad Cat II. This version is a lot better than previous designs, aesthetically, but it still feels kind of assaulty. I won't hate having the mini though!
