Rifleman IIC 3D Sculpt

Sorry, bit slow on the updates this month. Rifleman sketch was dropped not too long ago, here's the 3D sculpt of it that was the base for Rec Guide lineart.

I think the translation from 2D to 3D went really well here. Marco on design and Alan on the sculpt.

A few people mentioned concern over the sombrero not looking big enough in the sketch. I think it looks a good size now in 3D. The interesting bit is they're the same size. Vertical cylinder shapes in a flat 2D sketch look smaller than they end up in 3D. This is usually a big issue with waist rings as they become hard to fit onto the pelvis shape.

What do you say? Enough hat?

I want to paint up a whole trinary of IIC mechs!

Your scaling is what brought me back to battletech.

Bruce Faries

Haha yes, having a good scale is very important to me. It's funny how many still say there is no scale and no one should try. I think they're afraid of their old minis looking obsolete.

Anthony Scroggins

The Rifleman 2c looks very good over all. The crotch area should maybe be just a bit wider and not quite so pointed. The arms should be just ever so slightly pointing up, and the Alpha Strike card should have the flack special rule. Great look! I really like the hhead. I'm only offering suggestions. I've been quite satisfied with the models. Having somewhat of a scale is very important.

Bruce Faries

Dale and Chris have other main jobs, so their time is limited. Meanwhile this is Alan's main job. Aaron and Eliza are chipping away on stuff too. But yeh, no one piles on as much stuff as Alan and I haha.

Anthony Scroggins

A lot of the recent 3D renders are by Alan. Big fan of his work, so all good, but are the other 3D guys (Dale, Chris) still on board as well ?

TIM STRAUVEN

I would love to see the Hoplite!

Robert Moore

Now that you said this I am 100%seeing recon drone.

So sexy!

The art in the Rec Guide made it look a bit shorter and fatter than is actually the case. Nice to see the correct proportions are as lean and mean as the unseen.

Its not the hat i was worried about. It was the monicle. Worry no more

I think that's something that was always clear in the art for all iterations of the design, but kept being screwed up in the sculpting stage. Really goes to show that it's not just the design phase that we've improved. Sculpt accuracy is just as important, as we've had so much good old art be ruined by a terrible sculpt.

Anthony Scroggins

Yeah a plain radome is practical, but a bit too simple of a shape for such a large vehicle. Peppered it with the antenna, lidars, a camera dome, etc. Makes sense for a high tech unit 1000 years in the future. I feel the fins coming off the sides add a lot of interest too.

Anthony Scroggins

We all love a good sensor dish.

Interesting how the Sombrero hangs over the back. Keeps a lot more of the torso visible

Yep, I'm going to tip my hat to you and the other modellers - it's enough hat now in 3D. Just barely enough, but enough. It's flatter than the Mechwarrior Online one thankfully, and that little antenna fin on top helps convey its purpose as an instrument of warfare (instead of just being a hat). The radar dish is what has always made this mech so iconic and beautiful for me so thanks for keeping this concern in mind. Can't wait to get the miniature eventually.

I am absolutely getting Tau vibes from that hat, and that's not a bad thing. At all. Well done!
