More on Hawk Feedback.

I think we've got the idea of proportions nailed down pretty well, that's always an easier part. But what do you think about the "looks", details, parts, etc of the mech?

Also gonna show of the initial design sketch that came before the lineart. Making the torso wider in the final version may have been asked of me, I forget, but I'm feeling like it might be nice to narrow things up a bit on the side torsos. Head could use some tweaks, lower arms could be longer. Longer legs for sure.

But yeah, if you could change not just a proportion, but an actual detail, what would it be? What parts don't you like the look of?

I like the guy on the right but I prefer weapons that don't look like hand held guns and also creating the cockpit so it does not look like the head twists. I just don't think cockpits would rotate.

I like everything about the right version better except the feet. I like the version of the feet on the left guy better.

Richard Jensen

Having slept on it a day, I'm feeling the chest/torso for the left, but everything else from the right, more or less.

If I could change one thing; the right chest could use a bit more definition.

I definitely like the right sketch better, I don't think it should look too rounded or bulky.

I have to say that the Right one by just a little bit is my preferred. How hard was it to make it close to the original with adding something your own to make it different from what is out from different sources?

William Janak

Oh! There is one thing I think I like better on the left hand P-Hawk... the pauldrons/shoulder pieces. Less "busy" and more like the original than the one on the right.

So, the P-Hawk, along with the Stinger and Wasp, were early favorites of mine for... reasons. I vastly prefer the right hand P-Hawk. The outboard arms evoke but do not copy the armor pods from the original Phoenix Hawk/Super Valkyrie. The head is more reminiscent of the original, and the iconic antennae (lasers) are more pronounced. I love the vestigal intakes on the tops of the upper legs. Everything about the right hand design is more a loving homage to the original P-Hawk, without being an outright copy. This really makes it resonate with me. I mean hell, I'd even appreciate the toso being a little closer to the wide plastron of the original Macross design, but it's not necessary. The right hand image is on the right track of being reverent of but not slavish to the original. I dig it. Now for bonus points, I'd love to see one statted out with, say, a pair of weapons in the torso that fold over the shoulder, Strike Valkyrie style... Not that we ever did such a thing in our own campaigns, mind you.

I prefer the one on the right, but one thing that bothers me about the MWO and nu-seen versions is the angle of the jump jets. I vastly prefer completely vertical thrusters vs the angled ones.

Yes, I agree with @Henning right side sketch is a lot more better, and the head being more angular, hip side detail looks nice

I like the right sketch better - looks more liek a medium to me. Especially the longer and narrower jump jets, the less bulky shoulders and torso. I also like the weapons pod on the right arm - it looks more "integral" now and less "bolted on". Retro-style, but still cool.

I like the one on the right, it! It makes me see the adjustments that were made when they created the PP Phoenix Hawk. Any word on the crusader, I can’t wait to see your take on that one?

Robert Moore

I'm a big fan of the Phoenix Hawk and I do like what you have done. Your version strays a bit from the visual family that were the Macross versions of the Wasp, Stinger, and Phoenix Hawk, but I think that is okay. On the TRO version of the model, I liked how the broad chest evoked the idea of a bird wingspan with the narrow waste. I also like the idea of a beak in how the head is shaped. The 3D model makes it seem a bit bulkier than I expected. I would say I am happy with it.

I think that the essential details are there in some shape or form and although I really like the "beaky" cockpit/head you went with, I might agree with Daniel here. Perhaps it's the old astronaut-like head that's setting you off?

Personally, I think the Large Laser looks a bit plain. Too "round" when there are so many nice angles elsewhere.

Dexion (Shawn)

All mechs that I'd like to hit.

Anthony Scroggins

A lot of BT mechs, or mechs in general, don't have enough ground contact regardless, so I never worry about pretending I've given a mech enough traction. They'd all sink into mud, shred pavement, slip, etc.

Anthony Scroggins

Yep, if it's can't be cast it wont be modeled. DIY.

Anthony Scroggins

Alas the Phoenix Hawk is not a mech I've ever really cared for. I'm more interested in whether your making a Zeus, Centurion or Panther.

Tyler Erickson

To me the left looks like jump jets on the back for sure, whereas the right they could be mistaken for some sort of cannon to anyone not familiar with the mech. Although the right does look more like the original unseen design, which is nice, Also the pods on the lower arms look closer to the original unseen, which I like. Overall it ties back to the original better than the left.

The one on the right looks the best... I kind of miss the old round head, though.

I like the longer jumpjets of the right hand sketch. I like the shoulders of the left sketch, although the right would give you more panels to highlight. The large laser barrell seems a little longer and narrower on the left sketch, which is subtle but I like it.

I prefer the one on the right, personally. I feel like the leg cents are party is the visual identity of the mech.

The feet on this design for this universe always bothered me, looking like two hollow shells trying to support the mech. It's a holdover from when the design originated from and is an artifact not needed now.

Is say don't move the head but shave a v shape where it's chin would sit I don't know I'm not an artist of mechs design .....

It all looks good but the one on the right has my attention sleek yet powerfull but it's head seems to be in it's chest the one on the left has no detail compared to the right

I LOVE the second one overall, I would only give the shoulders from the first one and make the backpacks bigger!

Lester Ortiz-Miranda

yes, I know why they axed the antennae, production nightmare.... but damnit! It's the principle :D :D

Steven Molen

I love the jump jets on the left. love em. Closed ports on the top always felt better for me. I see you kinda towed the line by moving a grill up higher in that opening in the 3d art earlier. I never got why they opened them.... I vote for the wide antennas to come back :) Hellz yeah. I like the shoulders on the left but the cockpit on the right. The shoulder spacer makes a great transition between the chest and the shoulders. I'd love to see the hand sculpted into the arm holding the gun, just as a nice flair. I also dig in the model that torso twisting is obviously supported (YAY). If you go more curvy, definitely bring it in into the top of the dome.
