2025-05-18 23:26:42 +0000 UTCi will say a lot of these shows involve bullying at least the ones you guys have tuned into because unfortunately in south korea its very real and very bad and a lot of these things arent too far off from real events, money and power is sadly a really big thing there, there’s thousands of cases of really severe bullying especially in school but because of south korea’s laws minors often go unpunished no matter how severe thats why most times they dont care because they know at most they might get 2 years of community service or something

Straight guys in Korea seem more comfortable with showing affection through those gestures. Also "hyeon" is how a guy would call another guy with respect because of their older age, therefore translated as "brother". A girl would call the same guy "oppa", and an older girl ("sister") "onni". These words help understand the dynamic between people in Korea.

2025-05-18 14:47:01 +0000 UTCyou guys mentioned how every korean show you've watched so far is gruesome and sad and you're right. but it's because the genres you guys seem to enjoy overlap with these kinds of kdramas, so we tend to recommend you more dark and sad stuff. i will say, korean shows are versatile and you can definitely find many lighter stories to consume! if you guys want more lighthearted shows, i know the gek audience has some recommendations. whenever i watch the darker, sadder stuff (like weak hero), i usually follow up with a romance/comedy kdrama :).

2025-05-18 07:22:14 +0000 UTCThe episode was over too soon :(( I both fear and anticipate every upload lol Love the energy of everyone throwing up the little finger hearts after Su-ho, and the hype of Beom-seok's push 😌 Also the Bron and Eren comparisons are so real - its always funny to me to see the actor who plays a prince in Alchemy of Souls playing the mobster cousin here though, lmao (to clarify, yes, he is the cousin - 'hyung' meaning 'brother' is also just a korean term of familiarity that younger guys use towards their male seniors, even when they're not actually brothers. You see this use of familial terms in a lot of Asian cultures) Also think we've got a bit seeing as we're only 2 episodes into Weak Hero lol, but if we're reccomending other k-dramas, I'd like to throw Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Move to Heaven, Hi Bye Mama, and Kingdom into the mix 🙏🏻🙏🏻 (thats my condensed list anyways...😂)

2025-05-18 04:07:18 +0000 UTCNow that we’re at episode 2, you guys finally get to see more of Si-euns style of fighting. Si-eun is not a trained fighter like the GOAT Su-ho is. That’s why the show is called “Weak Hero” because he doesn’t know how to fight but he’s very brave/confident and he uses his intelligence to his advantage (like assessing his surroundings and planning the perfect outcome to take out his opponent/ using the environment and the things in it to win). That’s why he’s my favorite character because even though he doesn’t have the moves like everyone else, he’s not giving up until one of them goes down & he doesn’t bow down to anyone which i love so much (plus he’s just insane which makes for such an interesting character to me). I love watching him fight because it feels like a real, dirty, street fight. Like here’s some pocket sand, and oops there goes a flower pot to your head and omg now my book bag is hitting you in your rib LOL. Like i love that fight scene so much. I also love the friendship dynamic like that’s another huge part of the weak hero verse that i can’t wait for you guys to get into! Let’s go Sieun & Suho!!!

It shows closeness while acknowledging age difference. but when they have to address their boss or want to make it extra polite they use "hyung-nim". the suffix -nim emphasizes a high level of respect.

They need to implement strict rules and have a policy against it. If I was a kid, I would feel so helpless and scared having no one in my corner... It would get so tiring. 2025-05-18 01:28:58 +0000 UTC45:50 that’s right, jack. the school decided to just sweep it under the rug. the thing with korea is, they're obsessed with image. their society is largely collectivist. maintaining harmony and avoiding public shame is highly valued. if a student causes a scandal, it’s not just “their” problem. it reflects badly on the whole school, the teachers, even the parents. so instead of addressing issues head on, institutions often try to cover them up to protect their image. the same goes for companies and even families. reputation is everything, and people will go to great lengths to save face, even if it means ignoring serious problems behind closed doors. it’s honestly so sad, because victims are often pressured to stay silent or told to resolve things "privately". as if that's possible 😮💨. sometimes they're even straight up ignored because the school knows they're not "powerful enough" to do any real damage. i know it's wild🤯. so in this case yeong-bin is just transferred instead of getting a serious punishment for drugging another student because his parents are rich and it doesn't benefit anyone for the scandal to get out. as for si-eun, he didn' get punished because they want him to keep quiet and not ruin the school's reputation.

The students are mostly all in the same classroom throughout the whole day being taught by different teachers per subject, whereas students in America migrate to different classrooms for each class, so you see a lot of them just doing whatever in their classroom in the show. Hope this makes more sense!
