You right. I'm not saying they should definitely stop with all the hate or start fake glazing to appease people like me. I just wished that as a group they gave more props to the good Usopp does at times. Sanji couldn't get on that ship without Usopp's silly rope device and Sanji wasn't getting off after being electrocuted without Usopp's help. I'm also aware they will have their time in the spotlight further along the story, so I understand my crash out is not timely and maybe I will get the reactions I hope for in regard to Usopp.

Nami and Usopp the chaotic duo is one of my favourite things, they crack me up so much. The gossip lady stance here! And even on a more serious note I think that they have a closeness that comes from being the two on the ship who are more like regular people, without monstrous strength or abilities. I think that's shown by how Usopp asks Nami if he's a pitiful coward back in Jaya, where he accuses Norland of being a liar. Nami doesn't just understand, she has the same impulse, even if she doesn't express it. She doesn't just accept his fear (like the others), she viscerally understands where it comes from. They understand each other on a level that the rest of the crew can't. And I really love how friendships are portrayed within the Strawhats with these differences, without devaluating any. I'm not saying they care MORE about each other than anyone else in the crew, it's more that they have this unique understanding. Or at least that's my take.

I think that you can understand these things and still find a character annoying and unappealing, though. And you do get a different perspective when you have loved a series for a long time and become, well, "used to" the parts of it that are even MEANT to be annoying. And I think the series will speak for itself eventually, no need to hurry opinions along! It's always better to let people get there on their own terms. And hey, being less into a character isn't that big of a deal at the end of the day, even if they never really come around to him. (Do I despise an extremely popular character? Why, yes, lol.) Anyway, I think that aside from the fact that EVERY character is a lot more resilient than in reality, Usopp actually IS stronger than the average citizen. He's been through a lot at this point, but also, he's been training with that slingshot a lot and you can seen that it's made him stronger. I mean, even if it's played for laughs, he does hold himself up horizontally by just his armstrength that time in Arlong Park, for example.

I think first time viewers and the Geks still need to give Usopp some more respect for his character, no matter how much he whines and/or seems useless because of his inherit flaws being a member of the crew. Luffy - super strong and instinctive battle wit. Powered by a devil fruit that makes him practically invincible to blunt force attacks and electricity. Zoro - inhumanely strong and seasoned pirate hunter with the dream of being #1 swordsman in the world. Willpower and ambition that enables him to surpass typical human feats. Sanji - lived with pirates his whole life with unexplained inhuman capabilities Nami - learned to live among ruthless pirates and made a living stealing from them for years Chopper - Capable of enhancing himself with speed, strength, and intellect Robin - Lived a life being hunted by the government since being a child. Powered by a devil fruit that makes her super versatile in most situations. Then we have Usopp. Lived a life without a father, lead a band of kids playing pirates, and lying to himself and others to keep himself going. Not powered by any other means other than his inventiveness and willpower to be a better warrior. I am glad Carter acknowledged his role as the realistic representation of what a normal person would feel. I know I would shit myself if I had to try fighting a man who shoots electricity out of the damn sky, and I respect Usopp for always trying to overcome his ceilings. I will admit though, I am unaware if there is or will be an explanation for how he is able to tank the things he does. I've always put it in my head canon that he also possess a more discreet amount of willpower that lets him push through adversity, like being electrocuted twice. It is just not explicitly shown and is outweighed by his more outward cowardly nature.

Like Mauricio said, During Arlong park Geks we’re criticising Sanji getting his innards crushed by water pressure and holding his breath for such a long time; and hindsight merchants decided to give them a reason for it based on future events. But I honestly think that reasoning is BS anyway, so many other regular humans showed durability feats similar to sanji during that time, it’s just the standard of the OP world that some people are or naturally become physically phenoms. So yeah hindsight merchants fumbled.

I completely get that he is not the kind of character you like immediately it takes time for some people more than others… that’s why I just hope they keep an open mind about him and learn to like him for who he is as a character. Someone said in the comments that he’s the kind of character that really slowly develops and I completely agree. It makes sense because of the way he was introduced in the first place. As you know the anime is very long so he’s not going to change in only a couple of episodes… and I think they were expecting that that’s why there always coming at him 😅.

Usopp took quite a long time to grow on me, to be honest. Longer than through this arc, and I think it's the same for a lot of people. One thing I will say is that the anime makes him yell a lot more than the manga, but yeah, he's not an easy character to like in the beginning. I'm not saying that I hated him, but I definitely didn't like him as much as the others. Yeah, I think that this arc has a few flaws that aren't ALL becasue of the anime adaptation, which had a noticeable drop in animation in this arc (this will go up and down going forward). There are some parts, like here, where there isn't much progress though a lot happens, and while it's not a horrible time or anything, Oda did get better at balancing this.

Honestly Usopp is who he is and we love him for it. Eiichirō Oda didn’t create the character for nothing so I hope you’ll learn to appreciate him as well as everyone in the crew, they’re all important and they all bring something to the story. Whether people like it or not if there is no Usopp there is no One Piece.. each member is a step forward in the story and disregarding any of them is not in your interest as you’re following it.

Regarding Carter and some comments explaining Usopp: I feel like there's no point in trying to explain a character or convince someone to love them. At this point in the show, I didn’t really like or dislike Usopp, but I can feel what Usopp's fans are feeling I became a Sanji fan the moment he showed up in Baratie, and I still can’t fully explain why he’s stayed my number one no matter what he does. Maybe for me personally it’s just more fun to follow characters who are flawed and dynamic instead of OP ones with no downsides. Dont get me wrong but I personally disagree, Ussop is 18 years old, he's considered a human in this world compared to the rest. I do understand that Nami is also human and that is correct, however ro me that is a flawed comparison. Nami since she was 10 years old was already dealing with the harsh reality of this world( OP planet ) whereas Ussop spent his entire life having a normal upbringing. "Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?" "'That is the only time a man can be brave". To be brave is to be afraid. To just run in without feeling fear is just pure recklessness. Except 90% of his dialogue is him whining and being scared. The concept works but the execution is annoying. Nami is a normal human and doesn't act like that, not saying he shoukd act exactly like Nami but he's a LOT worse

Nami dispensed a shield of static electricity , which is one of her clima tact moves, thunder ball. So Enel’s lightning hit that static electricity and was guided to go over and avoid nami I guess.

Cannon I genuinely don't know what you expect from Ussop half the time haha, like if he's showing up to enel scared how is that not fair, he knows he could never beat Enel and his fear is a completely normal response to being forced in that situation. Why do we have to expect every character in a show to be fearless and brave in dire situations when even in real life, most people wouldn't react like that. Surely you can look past this one trait, or atleast expect that it is a character trait he has had and will have for the near future

@mitch, well not every single ep, there’s still pretty lack lustre looking episodes/ portions from time to time, let’s not set false expectations lol. But we do frequently get very good animation sequence on a weekly anime, so we’re definitely being spoiled(treated well).

After LRLL I think they should stick to original one piece until the FMI saga. That period of time is the most well regarded section of the anime, so it would be good if they got to experience it like how most us and the world has.

Yeah I think they're still not use to the sheer length it takes for plot points and characters to develop in One Piece. I'm sure they will love him in time, I'm thinking it will be after Water 7 or post timeskip that the Usopp love kicks in.

@Mitch DS and JJK came out in 2019 and 2020, more or less the same time OP animation peaked. I think it’s like the industrial improvement. I can’t think of an anime got high level animation before 2019.

at this point in the story, I feel like it's so easy to view usopp as nothing more than a gag character sometimes. I get what oda wanted to do with him but I feel like it could have been executed better; the voice acting makes it even worse.

I always loved characters that aren't developed at the start of the story because they are realistic and have more potential. Armin was also considered a coward and someone who lacks self-confidence but he developed beautifully. Being annoying is another thing
