Episode 12: I felt really sad for Levi, Isayama set up so much burden and dread with the serum in his hands in this episode. This episode really convinced me that Levi cares a lot for Erwin to the point Levi was willing to lie to make Erwin stay behind so he doesn’t get hurt. I felt so bad for Levi bc he just wanted Erwin to stay behind and live but Erwins like nope, I’m a gambling man. Erwin really showed his true motivation this episode and Levi finally saw what Erwin was looking at all this time since the OVA. I feel like Levi must’ve been disappointed since finding out how selfish Erwin’s motives have been. Levi probably always saw Erwin’s message for fighting for Humanity to be a selfless motive and to find out that Erwin’s character was so obsessed with the truth that he was willingly risk his own life and the lives of everyone else just to get to it. But at the end, Levi handed over the decision to Erwin and is willingly to trust his judgment. He was definitely frustrated by Erwin that night.

Re: Bradlynn (to a lesser extent Eve) and Mikasa Don't listen to the haters - your in-the-moment reaction to Mikasa is 100% valid. You guys are probably the only reactors I have seen so far visibly emote at Mikasa's flaws, which is way more interesting than just reducing her to the badass, stoic soldier. The whole point of having newcomers is to see a different perspective. And don't worry if it seems like you're missing anything with her character; I would argue that it was deliberately off-putting and annoying to make you question whether it's a healthy dynamic. I would just request that you have faith that the author will explore it deeper later.

Sometimes you’re just a cool character. Sometimes you’re just a follower. Sometimes you’re just a friend in the background. Sometimes you get minimal dialogue. Sometimes you get an epic fight. Sometimes you get nothing. Who cares. You like who you resonate with! You like who the hell you like. It can be a simple reason or a big reason. It literally depends on your taste and preference. Hate who you hate and like who you like. Unless the character makes the story falter or suck, there is no bad character. A bad character would be a character you could do without. Every single character they introduced so far we needed to move forward even the ones with a minute of screen time.

I’d put a spoiler warning on that comment but yes you’re right, that’s exactly what I’m trying to say. All her moments get brushed aside or ignored or misinterpreted. Her hesitating to kill bluetooth and reiner in season 2 was followed by 2 scenes of her inner monologue about that which was actually really important for who she is as a character but its ignored as well. Rip episode 1x6 that was the last time people really saw the light with mikasa’s character

It only matters what you think tbh. I’ll defend Mikasa later (later as when the show is over) as I was one of the few who never gave her the credit I believe she now deserves but it took THIS rewatch to change my outlook. Just know a lot of people do love Mikasa. In fact most people I know that I got hooked onto AOT has her as their favorite character and hate characters like Levi and Erwin which I do not care about because it doesn’t affect me in anyway. Liking a character and hating a character differs from one person to the next. I hated Eren on my first watch. Hated him! Now I don’t. The people who hate Mikasa are just louder about it but she’s still beloved in the AOT fanbase 😊

That’s fair but I’d say levi’s development and emotional moments kick in way later for that to be the main reason why he’s appreciated from the moment he appears and then only loved more from there onwards. Some people thought he didn’t care when his squad died based off his facial expressions but he was still glorified (i get it, tho). It probably helps that he has an OVA that gets watched the most compared to annie’s and mikasa’s. The EREH!! thing in season 3 is definitely annoying, but that’s not enough base imo to ignore everything else about her character and past and misinterpret everything she says. That’s like writing off sasha completely bc of her “obsessed with food” trope. Also levi is a #1 tier character for more than 70% of viewers i’d say? Something like that for sure so i’m just speaking in general

Mikasa was good in season 1 but ever since then has basically only had “EREN” as her dialogue which is annoying to listen to over and over again, she really hasn’t had character development since season 1 Levi isn’t even in my top 5 characters but mikasa personally would just crack my top 20

Everyone always says how mikasa has no character development and is only a great fighter when the same thing can also be said about levi. He has acted the same way since he was born but he’s still everyone’s goat and apparently has “reason” for being the way he is. The same curtesy is rarely extended to mikasa and I wonder why? Maybe because she expresses love which apparently makes you a wuss or maybe because the 5 lines of her dialogue the studio decided to keep in gets misunderstood to fit whatever narrative i guess 😭 side note I absolutely love levi, no shade to him

She's a badass, but that's not saying much in this show. I feel like she's one of the most two-dimensional characters in the entire show. It's frustrating because she had so much potential to be an interesting character as well. If letting Eren and Jean duke it out is one of the more significant moments of her character development, then I feel like that's saying something. That being said, she does have some good moments, and I will say that I really enjoy her OVA. Despite this being my favorite show, it does tend to reduce and simplify certain characters and plots from the manga.
