One of my favourite things about Luffy though is that every time someone asks who the hell he is (to be doing what he’s doing, which are things like foiling plans years in the making for powerful, experienced pirates), his answer is simply: ”I’m Luffy. I’m made of rubber.” Sometimes ending it with ”I will be the pirate king!” The simplicity of it is what makes it so good. The crew, and especially Luffy, develop a lot of their skills while in actual fights, which I think is why he often loses a few rounds before finding the right strategy. And why there aren't really any training arcs! One Pace often uses chapter names from the manga instead of the anime, and I think it might be because the manga titles are less spoilery? Most of the time.

I originally commented this as a reply but I think it's important for the other GEKS and viewers to see this. I've seen Cannon compare Nami to a useless rack where you just hang 'hats' on, like a coat rack. But shes a navigator. She has so much talent and does more than whats needed when navigation is required. Is anyone calling Luffy useless and harping on it when navigation is required? Everyone has their own role. Being mad that a medic is not a soldier but not being mad that a soldier is not a medic is ridiculous.

Fun history fact. Skypeia has a ton of super obvious mesoamerican influence in it. Mesoamerican cultures all used rubber quite a bit. inverted that they just have no rubber up there.

Wondering about the number of episodes dropping without any announcement or anything, especially when we used to get 2 instead of 1, does make sense. (I never questioned it because I thought it was just a one pace thing). I just want to say you are totally valid for that response! Me personally, I couldn't stand seeing a lot of entitled comments asking for more or claiming we are getting shorted out of content. Maybe I was just raised to appreciate what I'm given, because man, I love the current content the geks are giving us. Not to mention, its not like they are shorting us out of content out of bad faith or anything. People are getting so mad when we 1. don't know how busy they are in their personal lives, 2. should understand they film a lot of other shows (anime AND cinema gek), and 3. are getting good ass content regardless!! @Rayanh LaNansha Yeah, I just for some reason have memories of it being a more clear direct response to getting around Enel’s mantra. Like there were more scenes of Enel dodging Luffy with mantra, which makes Luffy come up with those attacks. It’s been so long since I’ve watched this arc in the original that I’m probably just making up memories, though.

I would like to preface that I love you're guys' reactions to Skypeia and I'm enjoying the discussions (intro and outro watcher btw) and I can't wait for the later arcs, its gonna be 🔥. But when it comes to the discussion on the amount of episodes ya'll are reacting to, i think its obviously ya'lls decisions and i respect ya'll choices but if its not a bother, maybe the geks should just make a poll? I'm pretty sure I know which is gonna win but if that's the case then why not just do two one pace episodes? And I've heard arguments saying that they're gonna get burnt out or it's all they can do but it's just reacting, people talking like it's manual labour 🤣. And i don't remember getting burnt out at this point in the anime but that's just me. We're just down bad one piece and studio gek fans bruh we can't help it 😅. It just goes to show how peak this anime really is.

The reason why we’re so taken aback is because we went from 2 drops per upload to one drop per upload out of nowhere. We understood it at first because it happens, but based on someone else’s math, it’s been three weeks this way. If that’s the new format, then it’s the new format, but we weren’t aware it was meant to be a permanent switch up so we’re asking what’s up. Personally I’m just going to stack my watches from now on so I can watch the weekly two episodes at once.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched Skypeia, so I might be wrong, but did One Pace cut out some extra scenes of Enel using mantra to dodge Luffy’s attacks? It just seemed like Luffy’s tricks to hit Enel (like Daze and Fireworks) came out of nowhere. I might just be tripping, though.

The chapter of luffy’s gomu gomu no Daze came out in July 2003 while the chapter of Rock lee’s drunken fist was in April 2004. But like someone else has said, that sort of style has been an Asian staple for a long time.

It was absolutely dumb luck, if they had come just a few days later Enel would have succeeded in his plan with no real resistance and skypiea & its citizens would have destroyed. They also did ‘just show up’ to skypiea because barely anyone uses the knock up stream(the timing is rare and sparse) and usually just reset the log at jaya and ignore it.

I'm totally enjoying how each upload we get, all 5 geks are super invested, very talkative, and seem to be really enjoying one piece. 0:35 They didn't really just "show up" to skypeia. The log pose (the tool to navigate the grand line) told them where the next island was. It was pointing straight up which is why they went there. I guess they still kinda showed up but it wasn't just dumb luck, the log pose led them there and they followed

The same can be said for Usopp or any crewmate. Usopp defeated the Arlong pirate Chew, he discovered Mr 3’s weakness, defeated Mr 4, gave Nami a way to fight, and fixed up the ship numerous times.

I understand your sentiment. the fights themselves aren’t spectacular, in fact most of it is talking and it can get repetitive. One Piece pinnacle fight’s aren’t like other shonen, they’re more battles of ideals than of power. There’s a higher sense of accomplishment because of everyone that benefits from Luffy’s path of liberation.

Not really a spoiler, but ig it might be better for the Geks to not see this?? Idk Yeah that's one of my One Piece pet peeves; the fights are often too long when it involves Luffy. He sometimes gets knocked-out mid-fight like here or with Crocodile, they take that opportunity to show the other characters, and Luffy eventually comes back, so the fight doesn't get resolved until many, sometimes many many episodes... (might be better with One Pace in some arcs I suppose?? We'll see) I don't know if it's just a long-anime type of thing or if it's a One Piece only thing, but it gets repetitive and I remember how I felt as a viewer when I was in some other arcs and waiting for the single episode drop every sunday lol. It was like a cultural shock when I watched other animes and the fights were over in like one or two episodes haha

Jack please fight for the One Piece viewers and give us a double drop every now and then to make up for the shorter drops we're getting. The last 6 drops have been single episodes totalling 172 minutes of One Piece. Before the standard for One Piece and Naruto was roughly 80 minutes per week (which Naruto is still getting) so that would be 240 minutes for 3 weeks. Basically we have missed 240-172= 68 minutes of content in the last 3 weeks.

i think finding usopp annoying at this point in the story is understandable. he’s a hit or miss type of characters. nami’s the navigator and her role doesn’t involve fighting but i get why someone would be annoyed by her presence during a final boss fight because she’s practically useless

The difference is that you guys want them to finish this arc quickly to move on to the next one, but for many of us, we’re enjoying the show to its fullest with these characters. A huge plus in One Piece is the flashbacks, they’re always well done and never feel dragged out. Especially Noland’s flashback, it’s so good. Also, now that they’ve started watching with One Pace, the remaining arcs will probably feel even more dragged out for them, even the really good ones like W7.

Everyone calls Nami and Usopp cowards or annoying but literally get mad when they make dumb decisions because they're not strong enough. These are normal people with no abilities standing up to gods, tyrants and giants. The fact that there's no leeway given to them is insane to me. Personally, I think they're braver than anyone that criticizes them. Usopp is Luffy's best friend and marksman and Nami is the crew's navigator. They don't need to fight to have purpose and value which is what separates Luffy's crew from other pirates on the Grand Line.

Luffy's "Gum-Gum Daze" is just a take on the Drunken Fist, which is kind of old fighting style based from Wushu. A decent amount of fighting anime reference it, the oldest one that I can think of is from OG DragonBall. But outside of anime I think it was mainly popularized by Jackie Chan’s movie “Drunken Master”
