In this film Godzilla is the equivalent of the Boeing B-29.

In my opinion, the 2014 Godzilla has the most boring design out of all of the Monsterverse Kaiju, despite still looking pretty cool. The '98 one doesn't look like Godzilla, but it looks cooler overall. A lot of people actually share this sentiment, but they just don't like how it doesn't look like OG Godzilla.

2025-02-02 13:28:51 +0000 UTCThe ejection seat comment was interesting to me because the vast majority of planes in WWII didn't have ejection seats; most pilots were trained on how to bail out of a plane without one. However, I know a lot of Japanese pilots weren't trained with parachutes or on how to bail in the mid-late years of the war. Also, yes the four 30mm cannons were taken out of his plane and he was given two machine guns instead (or maybe two cannons were removed and the script was wrong when it called them machine guns lol) to allow for a bomb to be placed in the nose. ☝️🤓

2025-02-02 10:48:20 +0000 UTCThis Godzilla has that wicked goofy shape that a lot of the other iterations have. It's like many early renditions of dinosaurs. Godzilla 2014's design tones it down pretty well while keeping the original feel. I'd say Godzilla 1998's design is the best-looking by far, but a lot of people don't like how different it is. To me, it just looks more feasible than what you get in this movie, which looks like a CGI man in a suit (cool, but still goofy) haha.

And the Godzilla cells attached to Noriko and inadvertently saved her life. Great reaction, fantastic movie

IDK if its quite peak but it is a masterpiece in the sense of how everything connects and the on going theme of luck. There is also quite a few 10/10 cinematic shots.

2025-02-02 07:23:48 +0000 UTCI'm a long-time Godzilla fan, I've seen every single movie multiple times. Godzilla started out as an allegory for nuclear destruction with the OG movie. Which helps to explain this films title "Minus One". Japan with in a horrible place after the war with the atomic bombs, firebomings of Tokyo, and just being utterly beaten and defeated. They were at rock bottom and now Godzilla comes along hence 'minus one' now another threat comes making Japan even worse than rock bottom. After the OG movie, they started toying with making Godzilla somewhat heroic, there a weird period in the 60s where Godzilla kinda became like Barney and was like the friend of children lol, then they went more normal and then to anti-hero type Godzilla in the 80s. He has gone through a lot of phases and like the monster verse movies he is mostly portrayed as a anti-hero or protector of Japan against other threats. But the OG concept was an allegory for pure nuclear destruction. Also the reason Noriko survived was clarified by the director, essentially Godzilla's cells got on her and gave her a minor version of regeneration and durability of Godzila. Its still left somewhat ambiguous but it seems to represent more of a good side effect of Godzilla's cell and not a bad omen. Which thanks God, after that ending I didn't want anything else bad happening to that family.

It could have been anything, a natural disaster, a war against a foreign country, or hell, even alien invasion or something. The point is that this menace is representative of the monster within Shikishima, his own PTSD. A force that is literally and figuratively terrorizing his life and tearing him apart from his found family. But once he finally decides to face his past and conquers the monster within himself, literally and figuratively, he can finally move on. His war is finally over. He can live a life with his family.

It’s one of the largest and most prominent film studios in Japan, pretty much the Japanese version of Universal Pictures or Warner Bros. Toho produces A TON of content, and you'll notice just how much they do as you watch more Japanese films. They also produce anime, some of them you've seen already, like JJK and Kaiju no 8.

I love how they treated Godzilla as less of this sentient being and as more of a natural disaster. Cause just like a natural disaster it gives zero cares whatever is in it's way. It's just going to weave a path of destruction and then you're just left with the aftermath.
