The only reason i feel like he isnt more of a focal point is bc the plot gets thicker as shippuden goes on and the pieces moving at that point dont really have anything to do with rock lee or his character. So the eps around his development would just have felt like filler. Drawing away from the main story. And the writer does give him a whole arc of filler later in shippuden so it seems he did try to give him some screen time. Timelines between manga release and anime airing also prob played a part. Cuz the issue with pacing is common throughout the show. Theres also the fact the show was supposed to end after a certain arc and then Jump made him write more because of the success of the show so the entire finale of naruto was supposed to be like 200 eps earlier than it actually was. Overall i think there was a lot of back and forth between the story kishimoto wanted to write and the story that Jump thought would bring the most money bc of its massive success.

So he didn’t really have a role/place in shippuden. However, he was such a fan favorite after OG that kishimoto kept him alive and tried to fit him in in places in shippuden. Theres a filler arc in shippuden with some amazing rock lee scenes.

Also, I’m not sure if you remember, but in the original series, whenever Kakashi was late for Team 7 meetings, he always used the excuse that he was helping the elderly—that was a habit he picked up from Obito- to help old people when he can. And that famous line about abandoning your comrades; Kakashi used to teach Team 7 the same lesson about ethics.

He was willing to do anything to protect the people dear to him, which made it even more heartbreaking to see him meet such a painful end because of his choices. He died saving Kakashi, someone he had always been jealous of and never fully understood until that moment. That alone shows how pure-hearted he was. "I'm the only one who didn't give you a gift for becoming a Jonin." That line always hits hard. This is the first time I truly cried while watching Naruto. Even though we only see him in flashbacks, I love his character more than most of the main cast. Like Carter said.

Kishimoto picked the 4-tailed Jinchuriki as a Dragon Ball reference because the 4 star dragon ball is the most iconic dragon ball due to it belonging to Goku at the start of OG Dragon Ball. Gohan wears it on the top of his hat at the beginning of Z. Thats why he chose the 4-tails to be a monkey. Yes everyone knows that OG Dragon Ball was inspired by Journey to the West and gives Goku (Kakarot) the Japanese name for Sun Wukong. Not only that, you spoiled the name of the tailed beast which is a huge spoiler because it's revealed in a big moment of the story.

Obito really knew how to hit a nerve, he was disappointed in Kakashi but still showed respect for his dad, even when touching such a sensitive topic. And all of that was shown in just two eps. It’s so heartbreaking to see Obito, once such a bright, energetic, and kind person, lying on the cold ground, barely speaking, dying under the rocks. Their generation was just built different.

Even if A defeats B, and B defeats C, it doesn’t mean that A can defeat C. The power scaling in Naruto isn’t as straightforward as shows like Dragonball Z.

Obito is him! Minato had a wonderful squad: Rin who could perform an eye transplant surgery on the battlefield, Obito who starts off with 2 tomoe and has a strong determination, and Kakashi the prodigy who creates Chidori at age 12 and becomes Jonin.
