Have to take into account how Japanese act in normal daily life - they do act in exaggeration sometimes even in normal life, not just for the shows. So even though they might seem over the top to global viewers, they’re definitely not in the Japanese environment. I’ve seen people often complaining about bad actings in Japanese shows, but that’s just because they’re not used to how Japanese express things in normal life or they don’t understand the Japanese culture.

At no point did they tell players to kill each other, but they also gave them opportunity/incentive to do so. I think in this show AND in Squid Game, there was always a possibility to avoid violence. 2025-01-24 12:52:42 +0000 UTCYou’ll get Hatter and Aguni’s backstory ;) I understand your perspective, but imo those characters’ backstories are not so much there to help us understand they’re psycho or social outcasts, but more to give a big contrast to all the other characters who’re still there struggling and fighting their best in this world with a hope to return to the original world. It’s different angles or perspectives of how people see this world vs. the original world and it’s there to show different people’s attitudes towards life. Bearing in mind that introverts and social outcasts are actually quite common in Japan, it’s a social phenomenon, so their backstories actually reflect a part of the society.

2025-01-24 12:39:22 +0000 UTCAs much as I love the differently-designed games in the previous episodes, this episode is an episode of backstories, which definitely adds more depth to the show, making the show more than just about the games. There’s a metaphor of “old world vs new world characters”. The backstories show how similar yet also different Last Boss’s and Kuina’s characters are: They both don’t like their past, but what makes them different is - While Last Boss was turning his back to the past, Kuina was brave enough to look back, face and embrace her past while looking forward to the future; and while Last Boss wants to stay in this new world, Kuina actually wants to return to the old world to her mom with her new identity. The final episode of s1 is one of my favourite episodes for s1 of this show, along with episode 3. While all games requires some thinking, the final episode has the biggest plot twist for s1 and is what makes the writing of s1 of this show so great and beautiful.

Like idk if we really needed backstory on the sword guy or school shooter. Like I get it these guys were social outcasts/losers in the real world now they are living out their violent unhinged fantasies in this verse. I didn't need the backstory on them to figure out they were psychotic, they've more than shown it. It's like they tried to do some Lost style flashbacks but the characters had so little screen time and interaction with the main cast that it's like uh ok? I rather have spent that time fleshing out hatter and aguni's backstory, but the season isn't finished yet so maybe I'll get my wish.

After looking at his face throughout the episode, it seems written all over it. He obviously cant force himself to kill himself to save the Beach and forfeit what he fought so hard to get - the position of leader. I think he is the one that killed the previous leader, in order to gain leadership - which in turn will make him feel even worse because, now, right after he thought he gained the new leader position, he will be forced to lose everything. Whoever is the game master obviously wouldn't want players to get organized like the Beach people did because that way it's harder to control them, so if I was the GM I would throw a wrench in their plans too. The thing what I think is shitty writing in this episode in this 10 of hearts game specifically, is that the Game Master outright DECIDED who should be killed as the game's goal. So, what... - the only way for the witch to ACTUALLY survive is for them to kill the ENTIRE Beach? - this seems so stupid, unfair, and really uninspired from a game creativity, and tv show writing standpoint. It tells me the GM is shortsighted and impulsive. Not someone that takes great care in planning stuff too far in advance. I understand being a GM you can decide to be as sadistic as you want, but this is a tv show for an audience. Simply making stuff sadistic, one sided and unfair isn't all that interesting to watch or to try and predict. I feel if the new leader is actually the witch, it's a bit too predictable.

Like he’s already trying to spit out behind the tape so that the tape could get wet and come off, so why would he swallow his spit. And I agree, there’re lots of less obvious details in the show which help explain the later scenes. They just have to pay more attention to the details before nit-picking on things.

Like Canon wondering why randoms won't run into a hail of bullets to overpower a bunch of guys with sub machine guns. It's hard enough to organize randoms in a multiplayer game to do something, pretty sure it'll be hard to be like hey guys let's just brute force these maniacs with machine guns slaughtering everybody in real life. Obviously its easy to be like yeah would you rather die then put up a fight, but everyone is in flight or fight mode. Even trained soldier needs this to be drilled out of them. I doubt a bunch of guys who spend most of their days getting drunk and partying would be interested or organized enough to be sacrificing their life. I mean there is real world examples of shootings where police officers just stand outside chilling, something that happened super recent. Lmaoo idk why that tilted me, but i think it's just a bad take in any show. Also, "why didn't Arisu just swallow his spit". Bro was unconscious, happens with drunk people too. They just drool everywhere or vomit, now imagine if you tape their mouth shut. "Why didn't they shoot the executive chick" cause in a previous scene those too weirdos said they ran out of bullets, also cause of plot, but at least they kinda explained why they weren't shooting. Obviously this show is super goofy and there is definitely things to nit pick about, but some of these ya'll pointed out aren't super valid. This is my first time watching this as well and i'm watching it with you all. Having a good time with the show so far

Kuina going through her own type of metamorphosis (mentally & physically) is so beautiful! 🐛->🦋 Her family name is Kuina. Her given name is Hikari. It's okay, a lot of people get confused on her flashback. It just means her character was written with purpose & intent. Her transition is not the sole focus- instead, it's her inherent beauty. Not a lot of shows/movie succeed in positive transgender representation.
