But I can't talk since I originally watched the first two episode with my cousin back in like 2017 or so, and then never got around to watching it on my own lol. So glad I decided to check out your reactions for it though because now I'm finally gonna commit to this show

For those people, the good qualities are overshadowed by the frankly aggressive weirdness in E1 and 2. I convinced my friend to watch this show, and he wasn't invested until he finished Episode 5; he was put off by the earlier episodes. Now he's a fan.

We see him "picking up the pieces" not just of the physical destruction, but of his shattered resolve. He carefully returns those broken pieces to their original state, crying as he is overcome by his emotions. There is something both beautiful and tragically sad about this scene. To watch someone so good and innocently pure, who is trying his hardest not to rely on his powers and striving to become a better person, only for him to see his own efforts having been undone, is truly heartbreaking. Incredible characterization, such an amazing anime.

I think the main reason it's so underrated is because it tends to get overshadowed by One Punch Man, since they're by the same author and have similar themes and looks. The show's premise is basically "guy with repressed emotions and super powers is hilariously stronger than everyone else in his verse". The difference I think is that Mob is a middle schooler, and his story is connected to the angst of growing up and figuring out a place in the world. It inherently presents way more opportunities for character growth, and I think it's a lot more relatable as well. One Punch Man goes for spectacle, so it's not surprising that it would catch more people's attention. But I think Mob Psycho 100 is One's true masterpiece.

But once people see episode 5, the simplistic art style makes sense because the action sequences are beautifully fluid and dynamic, and the character depth is revealed. It makes a lot of people who are unsure of the show into fans.

It's such a fun watch, with unexpected stuff happening, unique and epic animation while still being deep and emotional at times! I love it!! Idk it feels like a breath of fresh air to me. Thank you to the Geks for yet another good anime discovery, I probably wouldn't have watched it on my own, like multiple other animes you reacted to (86, Vinland Saga, HxH,...)

2025-01-22 15:53:30 +0000 UTCthank you for the double drop! the timing was perfect cause eps 4 and 5 are better watched together. i'm so glad you guys are loving this!! you can easily tell when a production team cares for the story they're adapting, this show is impeccable, they even use glass painting animation for some sequences, this will always be studio bones best work (imo). the body improvement club is so wholesome, and the best part is that they're based off some real dudes the author 'ONE' met in a gym😭, it's very refreshing to see gym bros not being absolute assholes in media lol. mob's journey is sooooo good, i love how the narrative plays with your feelings in episode 5, it literally cooks you expecting mob to do something, since eps 1-3 make you feel like his crash outs are cool ofc, but when you realize what mob's true intentions are, him going 100 feels a little bittersweet, the narrator saying "it didn't take long for mob to realize he failed to change. the feeling that he would never be able to conquer himself... sadness", never fails to make me cry tbh, carter looking at the camera after that scene was so funny. i'm so excited for rest of the season/show, this reaction was sooooo fun, thank you♡

The only reason One Punch Man is higher quality in the manga and eventually got an anime adaptation is because Yusuke Murata remastered ONE's original webcomic.

I really enjoy character-driven stories, and this show (like Haikyuu) takes a few episodes to build, but the journey and payoff are absolutely worth it. It also weaves in great themes that are important for everyone—especially younger viewers—to internalize. Episode 5 is a great example of that!

I was turned off by the art style at first but then I realized how amazing it is and the story is beautifully profound. That's why it's my favorite anime. And we really appreciate everything you all do. The geks always make me smile and laugh. I have a lot of anxiety and depression due to personal reasons. It gets me down and makes me feel scared. However, watching your videos helps me to feel better. You all make a difference in a lot of people's lives. Hope you know that. You're more than just simply content creators to me.
