The kenma pov scene really saved the movie. I really wished they did series instead of movie for this. One of the few manga where it has a flawless story and also one of my favourite endings.

I took my little brother to the cinema to watch it (he's a big fan and dreams of being a pro volleyball player), and our mom joined along. I was never interested in volleyball really, but I played football, baseball and basketball year round growing up. The feelings you get from playing sports are unmatched, and watching a good anime about sports, that really go into detail about the feelings and stuff you think and feel during games/matches, is awesome. Glad you guys enjoyed this one, even though it looked a little bleak at first lol

IT MAKES ME SO ANGER THAT THEY WANT TO PUT EVERYTHING THAT IS MISSING IN ONE LAST MOVIE. But I guess nothing is worse. They can always read the manga that, even if it is volly, can be viewed perfectly, it is almost as if they moved.

It’s been so fun to rewatch with you—the closest I’ll ever get to watching it for the first time again. I know you’ve got so many shows going on, but for character development, emotional beats, and staying within the sports genre would so highly recommend Run With the Wind. It’s a short anime but so unbelievably inspirational, with great character development. I’ve never been a distance runner but it totally motivated me and I’m running my first half marathon this year!!

I literally cried when Coach Ukai raised his hand and acted as if he was shaking with Nekoma's coach personally. I just wished they included the back story. I think the only thing I am looking for (aside from some cut scenes) is the feels. Whenever I watched Haikyu (S1 to S4), the dialogue, music and events always linger in my heart. This movie is amazing but somewhat lacking on these aspects, but I still love it <3 Thank you, Geks! It's a great journey to watched it with you, guys (this channel is the reason why I watch Haikyu and finish it in almost 2 weeks - including the manga) :> Ps. The strat of aiming at the hitter(Ushijima) is the same as what they do to Hinata, it's just tiring them out and reducing the time they have to do their approach. Shiratorizawa has everyone else defend and cover for Ushijima as much as possible so they can let him focus on attack more and get max approach.

2025-01-15 17:17:07 +0000 UTCAs someone who played a national U-19 rugby finals against the team who were our training partners for most of the year, the yapping is exactly how it goes. Everyone is constantly trying to poke fun at eachother. Literally the first play in our game was our #8 sprinting straight at the opponent #8 just so they could clash cuz they were both known as the best tacklers/ball carriers in the country at the time. First thing they did after getting up from the contact was laugh and slap eachothers back before getting back to the play. Also had a moment where I got proper tackled by an opponent who played same position, and he said "was that low enough?" with the biggest grin on his face cuz I once gave him feedback he goes into tackles too high like half a year earlier. There were countless moments like that and I'm sure i missed most of them since rugby is on a 50m by 100m field with 30 players in total. Young players just wanna settle their beef and if you've trained together at training camps multiple times throughout the season and are really good friends you just joke about it. It's so crazy how relatable Haikyuu is, absolutely love it, truly the peak of sports anime. I found it after a ~7 year break from sports, having stopped playing rugby due to injuries in my early 20's, and it just reminded me how truly special team sports are and I signed up to a volleyball club not long after, been playing for 4 years now.

I'm curious to see what's different in the manga. I did like the movie because I like Nekoma and Karasuno's relationship with them. I do wish that Ukai was able to be there. At the same time though I do wish it still would have been a season instead of a movie. And I wasn't a big fan of how Nekoma lost. I'm glad Karasuno won, but i wish it would have ended with either a cool ending shot or a block. The bird cage moment was great and so was the part where they had a knife to each other's throat. I also liked the Kenma POV and the flashbacks of him and Kuro. I also liked the Kuro and Tsukki flashback scenes. I'm looking forward to the next movie. I really hope they don't make it the last because from ehat I've heard there is a lot to cover. Hiakyu forever!

To create something so deeply introspective and purposeful on every front requires a huge amount of effort, care and love. Prioritising character growth arcs that span hundreds of chapters and come back full circle, adding in details that hint towards future events (and MAKING SURE it happens), and even the splashes of symbolism that are both beautiful and insightful - I cannot thank Furudate enough for creating such a masterpiece in storytelling. It's sad to think that this is the end of Haikyuu for now, at least until the next movie comes out. But rewatches are always a great way to pass time. And for Haikyuu, the rewatches honestly just keep getting better and better. Even a scene you know by heart can show you new things on rewatch. I just wanna thank the Geks for reacting to Haikyuu and giving it a chance to work its magic, and to the lovely comments section in this small community. To everyone who worked hard to vote Haikyuu as the replacement for whatever anime that was in its place before, y'all are truly angels. The one thing I'll say is that holy shit that may be the most tense I've ever been watching Haikyuu, and that's saying something. When you really think about it, the way the match played out at the end is, like y'all said, really bittersweet, but also epic. I honestly agree with Jack when he says that Kenma dropping the ball due to how slippery it became after that insane rally is a much more meaningful way to end this iconic match rather than a spike or a block. The entire journey of Haikyuu has been incredibly symbolic so far, and this match was no different. Every single player on the court (and some who are off the court) made significant contributions to this match. Like I said, this is a match that encompasses the struggles that Karasuno faced while improving, the friendships that are wound tight together and stretched across the net that separates them, and also the fruits of both team's hard labour. For what it's worth, this match wasn't about winning, it was about playing the absolute best game they could WHILE having fun, while overcoming the obstacles they throw at each other, and while both sides discover something new about themselves, their teammates, their friends, etc. It really is an amazing, spectacular match, and you can see it in the way both teams didn't want the match to end. Yes, ending the match would mean Karasuno wins (which we all want), but how many times will they ever get to play a game as intense, full of emotions, and worthwhile as this again? If they're lucky, probably another two times, but there's never a guarantee that they'll face each other again on this official stage, so of course, none of them want it to be over. It eludes to what Kenma said about the feeling he gets when he finishes playing a game. The contradictory feelings are very much an expression of how much both teams place value on their fated rivalry and match.

It was something special to me when reading the manga (that sounds kinda bad uh.. yk like.. emotions yay?). The movie is great & i have no doubt the next one will be too, but man we deserved a final season. I think they did a really good job with the movie adaptation - the source material will always be GOAT, but they did the best they could with the material and made sure that even those who watched the series years before (or had no idea what this was about and just tagged along) could enjoy it in theaters. It's quite literally impossible for me to not get chills throughout, especially when the angles get all intense and the slow motion kicks in at certain parts, not to mention the frequent flashbacks to season 1 and season 2, when they all first met and subsequently developed their relationships throughout their training camps. And that rally where the animation first pops off? It was for ONE point. Like, that's insane. Tsukki laughing in joy at the end of that rally because he scored a point, and the implication that he was exhilarated and had fun doing it is yet another example of his growth. Old Tsukki would never have shown a smile at scoring a point, let alone be competitive enough to go face to face with his mentor, Kuroo, and someone who he looks up to in volleyball. I am genuinely in awe. Ah yes, Hinata screaming in joy because he finally managed to make Kenma say that the match is smth other than "okay". I can never forget how happy I was when I heard those words, cause same, I've been waiting for Kenma to do that since the first season! In the flashback, it's painfully obvious that Hinata was frustrated he couldn't make Kenma think the match was at the very least entertaining to him, because Hinata loves volleyball so much he can't fathom the thought of someone who plays but doesn't really care about it much. He told Kenma that "We'll make you guys desperate!" and he makes good on that promise because when he does the feint but pushes it further out than Kenma expected, you can literally hear Kenma yelling because he was trying his absolute hardest to stop the ball from falling to the ground. Even though he ultimately failed, that was probably still the FIRST time ever that he genuinely got desperate to save the ball. As always, Haikyuu's full circle moments are THE BEST.

Anyway, the reaction to Hinata's super boom jump always gets me. The music coming in when Hinata makes the realisation that he can't take a shortcut to do what he wants and then Kageyama clueing in to his determination is such an amazing sequence, I get goosebumps every 2 seconds for the entire scene. Here, we see that Hinata has evolved to a point where he's thinking for himself (how to create an opportunity to receive, secure his approach, AND spike), and while he wasn't the one who came up with a way to do so, he def steamrolled through the single hand of assistance Kageyama gave him and bulldozed a solution for himself. Literally, my heart is so inexplicably full right now. That's my boy! Furthermore, Kageyama being the one to help Hinata out of his slump is even more proof that the duo have reached a new level in each of their paths. For Kageyama, he is slowly but surely settling into the role of "bringing out the best in your spikers" WHILE juggling his own expectations of his position and duty: "breaking down the walls in front of his spikers so they can spike". I just think it's amazing to see our main characters STILL developing as they play more matches, and Furudate does this in many, many subtle ways that most people wouldn't notice or bother to look twice at, which is why I'm pointing it out. The symbolism of Hinata breaking out of the cage Kenma put him in is even better when we realise that it was the crow's wings that broke the cage - a callback to a previous scene where Kuroo says Kenma tore off Hinata's wings to render him useless. In this scene, Hinata regains his wings, which Kenma thought he had accounted for, but obviously, our boy surprises him every time, which is what he's secretly been hoping will continue.

After his epic moment in season 3, it's true that he no longer views volleyball the same way that he did when he found out his brother had sacrificed his time in high school being pushed out of the limelight as a player due to his lack of talent. But of course, Furudate never leaves loose ends. So in this match, we see many small moments that show how much Tsukki has changed over the course of a few months. He went from not caring about volleyball too much, to wanting to face off against a crazy strong opponent like Ushijima, to stretching his limits as a player by jumping his highest. Now, he says "Sometimes, volleyball can be pretty fun." and I just think it's a great way to show how he hasn't stopped his growth arc in Haikyuu at all. Like Kuroo says, you'd never have thought Tsukki would ever say volleyball can be fun. But now, he does. "It's like everyone on Karasuno has become Shoyo." When Kenma says this, you can interpret it as this haha: Obviously, Hinata really really loves to score. If he gets the chance, he'll be backing up to secure his approach and jump. This is basically what cost Karasuno that last point in the first set. It's like Carter said. They all thought someone else was going to receive the ball, because they're all so used to every spiker attacking at once to throw off their opponents. So, in a way, everyone on Karasuno, in that moment they lost the point, "turned" into Hinata:)

I love how all of them were written and their relationships to each other make every volleyball match more than just a game because we've seen the process of their hardwork. I look forward to seeing more Haikyuu content from you guys in the future!

The OST, sound design and animation were all top tier in this movie and honestly, I was just so happy that we got more Haikyuu that I forgot all about being upset it was a movie JHFBJHWB I'd say rather than "glazing" each other, this match is simply unique. How many teams at nationals can say that they've played practice matches with each other before, made friends with people from opposing teams, AND play each other on the country's biggest volleyball stage for high schoolers? The point of their Karasuno and Nekoma's constant praise for each other back and forth after each point is that they are special rivals. They aren't the bitter kind (Oikawa VS Ushijima), or the unfamiliar kind (Karasuno VS any other team they've never played before). This match is more than just rivals trying to claim victory. It's about friendships strengthening through each other's displays of diligence, respect and of course, skills. The fact that Karasuno has always lost to Nekoma in their practice matches is never used or brought up as a point of humiliation or shame. Just as Nekoma is in awe at Karasuno for improving exponentially in a mere THREE months, Karasuno acknowledges that Nekoma hasn't been sitting on their asses waiting to be defeated. What makes this match so meaningful isn't just the rivalry that Grandpa Ukai and Coach Nekomata have. The relationships that Karasuno have formed with Nekoma fuels their determination to win on this huge, official stage, where their current teams PROMISED each other they would meet. It's the end of an era, in many ways, and far from the typical "Oh, this team just scored on mine, so I'll gloat about scoring the next point on them because I don't care about them, I just care about winning." interactions, this is "Damn it these guys are always surprising me/always so strong, I'm so glad I'm here to experience this first hand and LEARN from their ways." These players are every bit fated rivals as they are friends, so each team taking the time to express their admiration for the other is expected. Personally, I LOVE that what could be lame trash talking is switched out for friendly banter across the net. It's what cements the fact that this match is special, and that it shouldn't be anything like the other matches Karasuno have gone through before.

It does give the viewer a different feeling, doesn't it? The only problem is, there are a lot of characters so we don't know from whose POV they can apply. To be honest, I cannot remember if it's like that in the manga.

To the point, even when its a serious national game, they still have fun and are so comfortable. I do get why yall say that tho, cuz you guys want more playing than talking. And I agree, its valid. I think each official game in Haikyuu kinda has dif vibes to it tho, and Nekoma Karasuno is the clear example of this. Personally I love it because you dont see this in any other matches: a game so fun you find yourself get lost in it and feel like its purely just a practice game with your homies of sorts. And this applies to Karasuno characters, you guys (and me) too. You guys actually got lost in it, and then it suddenly dawned on everyone "is that it? thats the end?". The match served its purpose in a way imo. Anyway, I highly rec you guys to read the this match in the manga (ch293 - 325) to see the difference.

The point is already so good in the manga, and the movie did it so much better. I don't think any manga reader was expecting to see kenma's first person pov for that long. I started watching Haikyuu around the same time you guys did, I always wanted to watch this show, but somehow I felt like I was waiting for the right moment, if that makes sense, and that moment came last August when I was grieving. One day I just thought "I'm too tired of being this sad" and played the first episode almost without thinking, I was just looking for any distraction from my thoughts. And dude, I didn't know I was getting into one my favorite show ever, IT'S CRAZY, it's almost like I was not the one that found it, it found ME. Of course, it helped with my grieving process but it also changed my perspective on life as a whole, it made me regain the motivation to do the things I love, because how can you look at Hinata's journey and not be inspired to do your absolute best? THIS SHOW MANNNNNN. I know there are more complex and innovative stories out there, but this one is so special, I feel blessed to have found it when I needed it the most. Also a blessing to have had this journey at the same time as you guys! I really had fun watching these, you were also part of my healing journey. I can't wait to see more Haikyuu content on the channel once the new movie (movieS, hopefully) come out!!!!! Let's hope we don't have to wait too much for it! PS Read the manga <3

2025-01-15 04:37:25 +0000 UTC1:14:52 Kenma's monologue here reminded me of GEKs and their collection of shows they've watched so far; fantastical, sci fi, about exploring worlds, shonen animes that deals with stresses about life, death, destruction of the worlds... it's like him, Kenma saying this line to GEKs ... that this is just volleyball.. normal humans playing with a ball. .. but it can be entertaining isn't it? Haikyu is just that kind of show.. and more ..especially with some great life lessons imbued in the characters and stories within it.

2025-01-15 04:33:00 +0000 UTCAs much as I loved this movie (I cried like a child in the theater lol) I encourage everyone to PLEASE read this match in the manga, there were A LOT of things cut off, one that I particularly hate it's the background on how the "dumpster battle" is even a thing. Another thing is how we see Karasuno win their first ever set against Nekoma and here in the movie is just like another set whatever lol But everyone has their moment in the match, it's a long match too (it's only like 4 or 5 chapters shorter than the Inarizaki match). This is definitely my favorite match too, like I love both teams so much that I didn't want either to lose 😭 So please, read it, starts at 293 and ends in 325 you will not regret it!!

If production wants to do the manga justice while sticking to the movie format, they'll adapt 2-3 movies to wrap things up (there's too much material left to cover for one movie to be enough, especially if it's less than 2-hours long -- think about it, the manga has about 75 chapters to cover after this movie). My fingers are crossed for an additional season, though. Non-essential side-note, but in the manga, Hinata's super high jump is a boom jump, rather than a bam jump. I just had to say it. Sounds matter. Now for the next anime, I say give Bungou Stray Dogs a chance.

In the manga this was one of the longest 3 set games of Haikyuu, but they cut it down to an hour and a half with a lot of flashbacks instead.
