WHAT WHAT WHAT?!

Comments

Thank you! I'm with you Geks, I was coping hard AF. I can't believe it.

jrnoodles

I cried this episode :'( at the end the lambs did hide from the wolf just like the game says to

Riya

The girl accepted it because Arisu ran past her and Chota when there was like 2m30s left and once the timer hit 30sec left her and Chota new that even if she screamed Arisu would never be able to get back there in time. Knowing they both were about to die they just wanted someone to hold and started apologizing to eachother. Honestly thought it was a really good moment of all the characters about to die coming back to their senses and realizing how fked the things they did trying to win were.

Oromis

It's 4:04 am on Wednesday here where I live. lol And they must have had some kind of issue. Guess it'll be tomorrow.

Betsy

I thought new episode will come out Tuesday. What day is it now in your end? Because it's mid Wednesday here now.

Mari Alvarez

Just saw their post. Glad they have a fixed schedule now :)

WHY

they just posted a schedule. AIB is Tuesday Thursday now

S Moonchild

yeah i thought they said we would get AIB tues, wed and thurs but it seems like it’s only once a week

Adri

At this point I think it’s random. Unfortunately

Bri-Ana Monique✨

i want to know that too

Maf

I’m kinda new to their Patreon. I know they mentioned that posts would be delayed due to several reasons, but does anyone know if they normally have a schedule for a show that they will post on certain days if not for the holidays/busy schedules (e.g. once or twice a week, on which day in the week etc.), or is it really flexible that they just post on random days?

WHY

It means it was expected by the game they care for each other and that they will be running away from the wolf, while the wolf will be desperately looking for them. Literally what happened. The rules don't make sense until they do

Brave Raccoon

what does it mean?

Ron Jackson Jr

5 brains and no one knew what the message meant💀

Deemo

😂😂

Lydia

I think the fact that the rule says "sheep, hide well" suggests that at some point in the game, you might actually prefer to be a sheep. At the beginning, you might immediately have that survival instinct and prefer to be the wolf. However, as time goes on, the weight of knowing you'll survive at the cost of others might make you reconsider and ultimately prefer being the sheep. Speaking for myself, no matter how much I’d want to survive, I’m not sure I’d choose to be the wolf and carry that feeling with me, especially if it were people important to me that I loved

Maf

LOL ohhhh my shaylaaaa😩😭

Bri-Ana Monique✨

My shaylaaa 😔

Lydia

They mentioned that posts would be delayed due to the holidays and everybody’s busy schedules

Katydid22

Is episode 4 coming today? Sorry trying to be patient but I'm failing at it badly lol

Betsy

The girl in the end accepted her fate because she found someone who didn't betray. Because she had only seen betrayal, like she stated to Shota, she betrayed too, and that's how the world worked. Witnessing Shota's sacrifice she's moved and probably feels a sense of relief, finding someone who chooses not to betray. In the end she becomes capable of self-sacrifice and she accepts death.

JeanJean

The principle in battle royal inspired fiction is always to be a metaphor for society and the world more generally. Squid Game isn't unique in that. Everyone puts too much emphasis on the message, when the message is literally the same all the time "the world / society puts us all against each other". I mean, depending on the treatment it can be well done (I think Kaiji did a great job) but it's barely meant to be more than an excuse for entertainment. It's just not that deep. I also didn't like both the characters and the acting in Squid Game, just not as engaging and likeable as other Battle Royal shows, especially the main character. Manga authors give their characters scenes to be likeable, I just didn't feel attached to any character in Squid Game the way I already was to Karube and Shota in only 3 episodes. Alice in Borderland isn't perfect but it's entertaining and is one of the better live-action adaptation of a manga we have.

JeanJean

True ... A simple yes or no isn't hard.😐

Merry

Wish one of them would respond to all the people asking if episode 4 was coming out ... A simple yes or no isn't hard.

Ronald Bohne

Still holding out hope for episode 4 today🙏

Betsy

Heart is a game of betrayal, yes. But in this case, it's also a game of sacrifice. They sacrifice their life just to save their friend and that's super rare in this world. At first, people tend to save themselves first instead of others, but if you found true friends/love, the willingness and action you can do for them is unimaginable. :<

Bingsu

same chloe

Ron Jackson Jr

it's actually not a game of betrayal but a game of loyalty. they set this game up pretty good but idk it didnt connect to me emotionally

chloe

I wonder if episode 4 will come today maybe? Or if it'll be next week.

Betsy

WHAT THE FUCK! i guess anything goes in this show huh. pretty cool

Anton Sakshaug

Will episode 4 be released this week?

Merry

episode 4 possibly?? 🥹🥹🙏

hayden 💟

🙏🙏

hayden 💟

Whoever said it's AoT level needs to chill lol. Alice is a good series.

Sdat1guy

Yes!!! Cross your fingers. 💕

Betsy

yess hopefully we get another this week

Lydia

Can't wait for episode 4!

Betsy

I get you. She was portrayed as a player willing to do anything to survive. She's also causing division amongst "brothers." Her show character wouldn't be interesting to y'all & others & that's fine. Not knocking y'all 🫶

Anya

I want to say that in the manga, the winner of this game had mutton as prize (along the visa days) very twisted. I feel like they could have figured something out to survive the 4 of them, maybe the bomb could be disabled, maybe cutting the cables, but panic got the better of them so it was not possible. I was too very confident while reading the manga that they will survive somehow but well...

Ale

he's the goat for a reason

SirCatelot

LeBron would have saved them all

LeBron Glazer (Bronsexual)

It is still entertaining. Also Games are interesting and difficult.

S Moonchild

Eh it’s not as good as squid game imo

Alan

Omg yes please we are tired of waiting

TVGirl

give me serverance please

Lucas Chaves

@will. Why tf would you be talking to me and repeating my talking point. Y’all need help reading English. Stairguy is the one who said one problem with The show is that it’s not believable so what tf are you replying to me for? Stop trolling

Venus

I have finished it. The show is good. I was just confused on ur statement of it not being believable

Venus

Early is actually easy lol.

imo human nature would have you fighting tooth and nail to live until the clock ran out. thats why i like to think Shibuki was moved by their friendship in the end and that's why she gave up. maybe she even realized the rules finally made sense in the end cause the sheep loved Arisu enough to hide. If i were her I would know there wasn't any competing with that 😭

Lydia

lmaoooo right? she said yall are cute i concede

Lydia

i am talking about the whole show (S1+S2) so I can't talk about the main flaws but as an example so far... the characters just don't act natural or believable at important moments. They're acting just like how the script needs them to act in that moment, even if it goes against what we learned about the character so far , which is already a bad sign but yeah, that's just one spoiler free point

SeCo D. Raw

hey hey i knew you didn't think it was the eiffel tower but i wasn't sure if you knew what it was called forgive me 😭

Lydia

🥺🥺🥺 so deep and so sad

Lydia

lmaooo so real

Lydia

true

SeCo D. Raw

i'm dead lmaooo

SuperChuckABoo

I guess you guys may have missed some subtitles while you were watching but the messaging of “sheep hide well” is definitely the core message of this episode. At the closing discussion, Carter asked the same question that Shibuki (the girl), asked at the start of the game. If the lone survivor is the wolf, why would the sheep have to hide? She noted that the game rules were weird, it isn’t the sheep who have to hide, it’s the wolf. Which is why she took off running as the wolf. It seems clear that the sheep are the hunters and the wolf is the prey. When we revisit the message “sheep hide well” later, when Arisu is running around looking for his friends (sheep) while he is the wolf, trying to pass on the wolf to them so they can live instead, we finally understand the true meaning of “sheep hide well,” not bc they want to live, but because they all want their friend to live instead. The game masters were two steps ahead. This was an emotional episode for me. Re-watching it through this lens of copium .. was definitely an interesting watch. The cartwheels of rationalizing each scene, and how convinced everyone was. Rules of the game are rules of the game. You can use game rules to your advantage to outsmart it, but you can't change them.

pink turtle

They mentioned a delay update not long ago before this episode so we might not...

Hector

This shows aight, could be watching band of brothers rn though😓. BOB clears by a mile

Yerr

Episode 4 tonight ? 😫🙏🏽

Bri-Ana Monique✨

And now the show begins

Gigi

🤣

hayden 💟

actually insane omg

sil

I wonder if episode 4 is coming today since episode 3 was late haha My guess is tomorrow though

Betsy

i forgot how visceral that scream out of arisu's mouth was man. traumatised is an understatement.

saida

What pushes squid game ahead for me is the theme of class consciousness and tbh I just really loved the acting/characters. Each their own 👍

Sanji

AIB & SG are similar. They just portray those similarities differently. -Both tap into the complexities of life & human nature. -Both play games that require physicality, wits, teamwork, & psych. What pushes AIB just a tad bit ahead for me: -The players don't initially play to cover a debt -The complexities of the characters & games are miles ahead -The environment (We're not confined due to secrecy. We have the benefit of a whole city) The fact that it's adapted from a manga & some things seem unbelievable is unfortunate. It seems some people can't get past that & it takes away from enjoying it. To each *their own though🫶

Anya

it is VERY CLEARLY not half assed... It was obviously thought through and makes sense for what they wanted to tell. Maybe its not AoT, but dont lie.

cade-carter

Oh, hahaha. Sorry. I wish it would reply to the comment you hit reply to..... Amiright

Stairguy

Even if arisu found them he would choose Chota she knew she had no chance

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Sure, I can elaborate more on the theme later but not now cuz otherwise it will be a spoiler. S1 is not that deep, it’s more about the story. IMO the story was pretty good with the plot twist at the end. S2 however is deep with its theme and “borderland” concept, which is NOT as simple as “live your life”. Even the games in s2 carries lessons. It’s just different way of expression I guess: SG brings out message through the story itself whereas AIB brings out message through the games and dialogues. To classify it as simply valuing death games more is unfair cuz the games in AIB are not only deadly but also way more complicated with wisdoms. They’re well thought through. Better look at the games as part of the writings than separating them out. I genuinely think because AIB has lots of subtle details and metaphors in it, people may not understand it from their first watch if they don’t look for analysis, it does not do any justice to AIB.

WHY

Can you educate me? I genuinely don’t see the deeper messaging in season 1. In season 2, I felt like the theme was just to “live your life” imo. It felt bare bones to me. I don’t mean any ill will I just wanna learn. My bad for speaking for other people’s opionions 🙏

Sanji

I think the “sheep hide well” message is actually telling them to hide in order to save their friend from dying. That’s the true objective of the game and that’s why it’s classified as a hearts game. The game maker probably designed the game knowing that this is what would happen if four friends played it. None would want the others to die.

1999

Brig is so real for his reaction 😂 After watching this episode, I really didn’t think I could continue on with the series. The biggest plot twist ever 🤧

Irie

The best part about this show is the ending of both seasons. That’s probably just cuz you didn’t get the story in s1 or the message in s2 or even the theme of this show? AIB brings out really important messages and life lessons; s2 especially carries a concept and theme from the start to the end. You can definitely have your personal taste and preferences but don’t make assumptions for others. People don’t say one show is better than another show just “trying to be different” (I’m not talking about AoT here, but SG) Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean there’s no deeper theme or interesting story in this show. They can value interesting storylines and deeper themes while loving this show at the same time because this show is definitely more than just about death games with the messages and theme behind.

WHY

Yeah I also had a good time watching it! What would be the theme of the show in your opinion? Maybe I missed it haha

Sanji

I coped the exact same way when i first saw this episode right up until Karube's head exploded. Like no way they all die in episode 3 there's got to be a twist.

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Harsh but generally agree (except for the theme bit) and i still had a good time watching it

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

We all have different preferences so preferring AIB over SG is normal. It’s not because we don’t have the same taste as u that we wanna be “different”

Will

That shot of Karube smoking was pretty badass 😂 Now that the prologue is over it’s time for the real show to begin 😈

1999

I know the girl was like ah fuck i had to choose the one group that had a moment where they rode a single bike together, there’s no winning against this

Mim

This sheep game was so emotionally intelligent.

Sanji

I think anyone who says this show is better than Squid Games or AoT is just tryna be different. Or they just value death games over interesting storylines, deeper themes, and acting.

Sanji

Respectfully, the only thing this show is goated at is their death games and ambience. The acting is hit or miss and the story was half-assed (especially the ending). Not to mention there is virtually no theme. However, season 2 had much better acting, games, and the increased intensity was fun to watch. IMO the story still sucked tho :/

Sanji

I think the acting and story is cringe but that’s to be expected from an anime/manga live action adaptation. I really don’t fw the white haired guy or usagi. It’s entertaining af but objectively it’s mid IMO.

Sanji

The thing thats the most messed up about this game is since its a psychological game, its expected that people would react the way these four did and take the rules at face value. However, there were literally a bunch of tools, including screwdrivers, tongs, etc on the table with a card saying “feel free to use these”. Never was it mentioned they couldnt use them to take the collars off. Its just because of the panic and Arisu’s trauma with the woman that they didnt really think of that or were made afraid to (=psychological game). All the games up until now have also been fair and have had a type of solution to them. Anyone could win/die. Its highly doubtful there’d be a game where everyone but one is predetermined to just die. They could have probably all survived had they taken their time to use the tools etc. 🥲

Fatipapi

Whats new 😂

Fatipapi

I believe they said some ppl in youtube comments

Fatipapi

You guys probably have the best reaction to their deaths I've seen. Especially because almost none of y'all thought they would do it. That was me too especially since they pointed out the "flaw" in the game and its been shown that all the games have a trick to them. Definetly thought the wolf would die but nope. I watched a couple years ago and I really don't remember the show being cheesy at all, maybe because all the writing and characters outshined it. Looking back through it there is some noticeable corniness if you really look but I think its just normal manga/anime cheesy. Its more so theatrical as you guys say with some conveniences, overly smart characters, and dramatic moments but dialogue wise this ep was pretty good and the rest as far as I remember. IDK maybe the 3 friends were just a tad chhesy together.

Luke Fox

I was talking to Venus not you!

Will

THIS SHOW IS BETTER THAN AOT BUTTON >>> (sometimes y’all are so quick to assume things without context🤣)

Brig Andrus

Same been watching for a while but I heard AIB was on patreon so here I am lol

Luke Fox

Pretty sure they were more replying to Venus than you. Dude needs to just pay attention and not complain about stuff that will make sense later. But yeah I hate the AoT comparison because they aren't even in the same league. Not just plot wise but medium wise they are different. Its more acceptable to compare to squid game cause they are both live action and similar with the games. Overall though I don't wanna push down AIB by comparing it to AoT. IMO AIB is still top 5 live-action shows of all time for me. Games are great and engaging, a lot of well written characters, very important and emotional message about learning to get over trauma and live life to the fullest.

Luke Fox

She only had 30 seconds left and Arisu was in a completely different room so she probably figured she had no time anyway. Better to die as happy as possible.

Luke Fox

wait highest rated episode of the season...?

Fin

Bruh whoever compared AIB to AOT or said it was ‘up there with…’ needs a psych eval 🤣 i love AIB but come now lmaooo bffr

Fatipapi

Love shows with the guts to do this so early.

Ronald Bohne

AOT level? yh ayt, let it cook but come on now

Fin

Has McKay watched the show already, anyway he should stay from Youtube comments.

PST3

Actual proof of Jack not reading the manga?🤨

Sasha

Just reading all these comments makes me so excited to see what kind of reactions are about to come😵‍💫 I don't know if this is better written than Squid Game but I definitely enjoy watching this one more

Sasha

The cope was so strong in this episode. Made it all the rougher to watch. This episode REALLY hits. Even knowing what's coming only helps the smallest amount.

Jacob Zamora

Who said that

Jesse Gutierrez

Yeah. It's kinda annoying to be honest😂

Sasha

What flaws have we seen so far?

Sasha

For real. And Kento Yamazaki's anime like cry shouting is just incredible.

Sasha

Who are talking to? I never said it has to be realistic. Somebody tried comparing AIB to AOT which is PEAK. Is AOT realistic 😂? What does that have to do with it? But people's actions DO have to make some sort of sense based on revealed personality. I'm not going to argue about that now though. AOT has 2 or 3 episodes in the top 10 on IMDB's top 100 TV series. AiB isn't even on the list. It doesn't compare. It's not even close. Let's not pretend it does.

Stairguy

I think this show is amazing but it's putting the Geks expectations way too high to say it's on AOT level😂

Sasha

How, me for example I rank shows based on enjoyability not necessarily just story, animation, etc. I enjoyed season 1 of Alice in Borderland, that I finished watching it after the geks uploaded their reaction ep 1-2. I enjoyed AOT just as much up until season 4, and then it just became boring to me. They still both r great shows to me but neither are in my top 10 of animes. I have Sword Art online above AOT. It’s just what I think is more enjoyable, so I don’t think ppl saying Alice in borderland is just as good as AOT, cus they kinda on the same level to me as well

Diamantes 💎💎🇲🇽

And when they were all saying/thinking “it’s 100% gonna be her” at the beginning - that’s so fun to watch 🤣 The greatest thing about watching reactions with hindsight.

WHY

A comment on the YouTube did

McKay Carter

How, season 2 writing was mid. Alice in borderland season 1 was goated asl

Diamantes 💎💎🇲🇽

Gosh this was hard to watch. I really didn’t think they would do it….

Jackson Carter

+ Alice In borderland is a live action from a manga. It supposed to reproduce what’s in the manga. Are mangas supposed to be realistic? No. In mangas people have super powers, ect. In our world does people have Bankai, genjutsu, or whatever? No. Mangas are fiction.

Will

I mean that gets explained at some point

BlueSmurf

“Better than AoT” 🤣 people be saying anything nowadays, btw the shows a little corny because the source material was a manga so it has anime like moments that are a bit jarring to see in live action

John Paul

U think everything you watch gotta be 100% realistic?, If u use that excuse for Alice In borderland, we could do the same for millions of series and movies

Will

Same

Will

I won't lie to you, I joined Patreon for this episode and for this show, but most of all, thank you for all the content and the people who recommended this tremendous masterpiece

Skyster

Yeah i see, which is why I'm giving it another chance, I'm hyped still for sure

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

Depends on what typa anime u watch lol, i don't watch cringy anime, plus I'm talking about the acting, it's cringy, some scenes feels fake

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

Have you not finished it? The end of ssn 2 explains it. It's a fun, good ending. Reshapes the rest of the series and makes it better to most people

Stairguy

Idk how y’all find this cringe but enjoy anime. This is based on an anime and manga/wentoon, so it has anime acting

Venus

Lmaooo the power of friendship failed us

Venus

The show isn’t believable at all because the plot isn’t even believable. In what world are lasers coming out the sky if you lose a game

Venus

As good or better than AOT? That's not an acceptable opinion 😂 But seriously, this season is a 7.5 at best to me. These guys disbelief in how they're acting is a small reason. People do crazy things in life threatening situations. But the writing is a bit mid. In no way is this story even close to as engaging as AOT. You have to suspend disbelief A Lot in this show.

Stairguy

W

Zipzzty

That’s too bad because her character in this show amounted to nothing where it sounds like pretty decent in the source material

Studio Geck

I feel you guys when I watched this for the first time I literally thought till the last second that they'd figure something out

Aapo

Goat movie I fear

Studio Geck

Homegirl was so moved by their friendship, she said fuck it

Kim555

Indeed, it is such a powerful message. The emphasis on that line combined with them actually hiding from Arisu exactly showcases how they’re all willing to sacrifice themselves for Arisu to live because of their friendship. Talking about their friendship, I think the conversation between Arisu’s bother and dad is also a really meaningful scene - Even his family doesn’t appreciate or love him that much; the only ones who care about him and all he has is just his friends, but now they’re all gone.

WHY

W

Qhoa

I feel like the "sheep hide well" was more of a symbolic message than an actual instruction for the game. On the surface, it seems like the goal for the sheep would be to find the wolf and make eye contact to switch roles and survive. But because Chota, Karube, and Arisu were so close, Chota and Karube chose to "hide" as sheep, not in the literal sense, but by sacrificing themselves for Arisu. Their choice to remain as sheep and not compete with Arisu was a powerful act of friendship and love, symbolizing how far they were willing to go for him. It makes the message "sheep hide well" feel more like a reflection of their selflessness and the strength of their bond, rather than a tactical tip for winning.

DC

I still cry everytime 🫠

El

This episode was traumatizing, I believed in the power of friendship and plot armor up until the last seconds

Balzhan

Also Japanese r letter would be a sound for the English sound of L so arisu—>Alice pretty much.

Nonos

The whole "sheep hide well" thing was emphasizing the choice that karube and chota made to hide in order to sacrifice themselves for arisu. the game is intended to make you choose who survives out of a friend group and the sheep hide bc none of them want to be the only one surviving with the guilt.

Nika

"Do it" *palpatine voice* Source materials are always better.

Anya

Who’s saying it’s on the level of aot??

Nonos

The tears I shed after that explosion back in the day could fill a lake

Hector

tsk tsk tsk*

accomplice

also! alice in borderland was indeed a manga at first and got a (bad) anime adaptation up to i'm pretty sure right before this game so they scrapped it and made it live action instead. it definitely seems corny at parts but thats probably because y'all (and most people) aren't used to seeing anime tropes in live action, so it can look a little odd sometimes where it wouldn't have seemed as out of place if it was animated

aubrey

hearts games are betrayal games; so in the beginning when the rules say "sheep, hide well from the wolf" even the girl points out that the rules don't make sense cause you'd think the wolf would hide from the sheep right? however we end up seeing that in the end, the sheep DID indeed hide from the wolf. the others all hid from arisu to sacrifice themselves for him. the game was always meant going to end like this, the game devs predicted that the sheep would hide from the wolves in the end hence the rules saying so... gotta love hearts games!

aubrey

The guy that said that this was comparable with AOT was talking just for himself for sure lol

Ale

no cuz same

def

This episode still haunts me…

Afra

But the one episode in season 2, they might be like 👀 I don't want to spoil it. If you know, you know lol

Betsy

Same!! I like the games in s2 more!

WHY

I like squid game season 1 more than AIB Season 1 But Season 2 of AIB beats both of em

Gnom

Thanks I'm glad. I feel like my comment was a bit all over the place. Haha Man I can't wait for them to watch season 2. I like the games better. They're more complex and interesting to me.

Betsy

Yeah, don’t worry I understand your point :) No time for reasoning in that kind of situations.

WHY

I couldn’t help but laugh because you guys had the exact same reaction I did when I first watched this episode. I was CONVINCED there was no way they were gonna kill off 2/3 of the main trio in episode 3. It was such a beautiful subversion of expectations of plot armor

KPTree

Ok, I need to read the manga now

Kevin Landon

this episode never fails to make me cry no matter how many times i watch it...😭

mina

This episode was probably the best episode of TV I saw in 2020. Still on my mind years later.

Riley

Trust me, season 2 is much better. Things seemingly illogical will all become logical at the end of s2. Plot wise, some plots are there to prepare for big surprises afterwards. It felt weird at first without understanding the full picture but definitely makes sense after the plot twists/ reveal of some of the answers. This is the case especially for s1, at least in my opinion. The plot twists in s2 are actually insanely wild and mind-blowing. Acting wise, yes, some of the characters (especially the side characters) are cringy leaning towards anime-like.

WHY

Fr

Zipzzty

This episode destroyed me 😭 Kento Yamazaki’s scream of shock & grief hit so hard 😭 And yes this show was originally a manga 💛 Also, since this was stated already in episode 1 comments & your discussion, hence the title, as you continue watching, there are characters who symbolize Alice in Wonderland characters. I’m just putting a reminder here because It would be interesting to see your theories on what characters are who as you go along 🤗 The only one I will hint at so you can make your own conclusions (people in ep 1 comments said it already) but pay attention to the pronunciation of one of our characters so far. 👀

Jenny Case

One of the best ep of season 1🔥🔥🔥🔥

Will

Botanical gardens are such chill places and I'm just a chill guy😌

Sasha

i’m telling you guys i definitely felt kind of iffy about season one, but season two absolutely changed my mind. it was so worth the watch!

ainsley

Yeah exactly. She was just scared and burnt out. But yeah, her fleeing provoked Karube ultimately. I don't blame Shibuki though. I probably would have done the same due to the fear that was coursing through my blood and veins. Like you said though, I guess it could have worked out if it was thought over and everyone had not of been so rash but handled it differently. However, that fight or flight response.... it doesn't always give you enough time to reason with things. Sorry I'm not always good at explaining things. lol

Betsy

worst take in history wow, this has to be a clickbait

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

So true. The rules aren’t always as straightforward as it seems on the surface. Sometimes they leave out things for you to figure out yourselves, sometimes you’ve got to think beyond, even when the answer is right in front of you, you wouldn’t have guessed until the very end.

WHY

Yeah, that's why I dropped the show after s1, like idk I find so many things illogical and cringy acting wise and plot wise. But hey, I'm willing to give this show a chance through ya'lls reaction, maybe I'm just not used to Japanese shows except for anime

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

killing my friends, sounds like a nightmare!

Redbone

I don't really see the aot comparison at all, but was I def waiting on this ep! 👀 This one really speed runs the 5 stages of grief, hsdcvjh - also Brig saying he isn't even ready for another episode after this is so relatable, lol. When I was watching this after it first came out I took a significant break following this...but ofc locked in again before the next season came around ✨ Though I know things are different in the manga, in terms of Shibuki accepting her fate in the show I don't think there's really much more to it than realizing she's out of time...and like Chota said, she probably just didn't "want things to end this way". With 30 seconds left on the clock, she realized that she could just die struggling more, or with a final embrace from a guy who she really did seem to have at least a slight bond with, and who was running out of time as well

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨

Heart games play with hearts, meaning betrayal, heartbreak and stuff. There is a popular theory that all games can be won without big losses, unless game says only one can live. One popular theory is this is a game of trust, wolf should turn his back to sheep and they have to cut the wire between the neck and glasses, while person is the wolf. Then when connection is severed, person passes wolf to the sheep and they cut their wire. Basically whoever is the wolf, their wire is safe and can be cut, but only by trusting the sheep to cut it for them. They pass it to all players and cut the wire, then last person stays the wolf and everyone wins. This is just a theory, or it can be that only 1 person stays alive and just makes them feral to be the one that lives

S Moonchild

True.. sometimes you don't even understand the rules... And sometime the answer is right in front of you but you don't understand it...

Merry

They’re really different. Actually, even the games are different: SG all childhood games whereas AiB more physical/intelligent/mind games.

WHY

She wasn’t evil, she just wanted to survive. But I can see people with high moral standards and values hating her for her selfishness shown in the first episode. If she didn’t run away from them at the very beginning and stir up things, Karube probably wouldn’t go mad against her and Arisu, they probably would have been more calm so that Arisu would have more time to figure out the solution.

WHY

dunk your head in the toilet and wake up

Brianna Tsao

this show has some fun episodes but it sadly has a lot of flaws so it's kinda mid at best so it's best not to think too much about it and enjoy the interesting parts :D

SeCo D. Raw

Yeah AOT has nothing on this

Maroki R6

“This show is up there with AoT” some Gekkies need to stop cooking Cool Godfather shirt btw

Brianna Tsao

That wasn't part of the rules.

draeonic 🪼

Game explained perfectly👏 Reverse hidenseek Spot on about Karube💔

Anya

Still a good show tho

Zipzzty

Exactly! This is the introduction to what heart games are. It makes you fearful when you see it again💔😨

Anya

I don't even compare this show with squid game because the storyline concept and lesson is totally different the only similarity are games... obviously squid game is almost reality of the society.. but this is anime live action. So just enjoy the show the way this is...❤️

Merry

They couldn't care less about her character haha When she saw that heart, man she booked it. Understandable- she didnt recover from her other hearts game & survival instinct. Arisu was literally right in front of her & she chose to stand down. Her actions was a testament to who she truly is & how much she's come to care for the boys. Being held down by Chōta was wack & unbelievable.

I think there's a haunting poignancy to the saying "hide well sheep;" the show highlights that line at the very moment that the sheep, Karube and Chota, are indeed trying to hide; not for the obvious reason you might expect, of trying to survive themselves; but for the deeper and more subtle, unexpected reason of protecting the wolf, Arisu, and guaranteeing his survival; that really struck me at that point in the episode; it almost felt like the creator's of the game anticipated something like this happening when they wrote that line. I interpret Shibuki's acceptance in the end as her being moved by their friendship and their willingness to sacrifice their lives for Arisu. What a horrible situation; yet so haunting; an opportunity to highlight and showcase the depth of their bond. It's so awesome to re-experience thanks to you guys watching

jared

I hope they see this message, you perfectly summarized how different Shibuki is in the manga. The only time she acted selfish in the manga was at the start of the 7 of hearts game where she was afraid of dying. She was planning to become the wolf when Arisu was willing to pass it on and only changed her mind feet away from him (she was hidden in the plants) when she heard how much the other two wanted him to live on for them.

Alex Ramirez

There aint no way people compare this to aot 😭😭 different levels man

Zipzzty

Definitely nowhere near AoT quality. Lots of lame Freak of the Weak CW type characters to come. But season 2 of AiB is better than season 1. Which Squid game could not do.

PST3

Kento Yamazaki💐

Anya

Y'all being in denial was funny. I always dread this episode but y'all made it bearable. The Shibuki hate was crazy though lol

Anya

Yall are nitpicking lol

This game’s not only playing with the players’ heart but also playing with audiences’ mind. The rules are designed that way on purpose. The rules are really poetic when you think about it. It’s the flipping of hide-and-seek part (that is the beauty of the game) which makes the wolf-lamb game so well-designed and heartbreaking. 1. At first, they’re going against each other with the wolf hiding and the lamb seeking the wolf (1st flip of the rule) when typically it’s the lamb that has to hide. 2. Then, they’re willing to sacrifice themselves for one person to survive, the lambs are indeed hiding so that the wolf won’t find them as the rules said and as the show keeps emphasising “hide well, lambs” (2nd flip). 3. At the same time, Arisu as the wolf at the end also wants to sacrifice himself and let his friends survive. That’s the reason why the wolf wants to find the lamb (3rd flip). “A lamb found by the wolf” is actually the 3rd flip. At the end, not just the lamb wants to sacrifice, but the wolf also wants to give up and sacrifice. All of them are sacrificing - wolf searching for the lamb and lambs hiding - doing exactly what the rules said. That’s why even though it originally doesn’t make sense if the wolf finds the lamb when he knows only the wolf can survive, it later makes sense when Arisu as the wolf tries to find the lamb because he wants his friends to survive and live. Also, to think that Karube and Arisu had earned five more days of visa, they didn’t even have to play this game in the first place, just make Karube’s death even more sad. He didn’t have to die if he didn’t choose to go into this game to help Chota.

WHY

Oh I didn’t know the writer said that. It’s a bummer he didn’t give us a definite answer

Esther

If the first two episodes didn’t, this is definitely the episode that gets everyone hooked.

WHY

I didn’t understand either lol. Yeah she was just trying to cope and survive and was completely terrified of this new world. I would be traumatized too and scared since you’re basically just a ticking time bomb waiting for your impending death every second or kill the people you love to have more days on your visa. I could never live with that guilt.

Betsy

The writer did say that there is theoretically a solution to this game (and every game), though never confirmed what that is. Some speculate about all locking eyes with the wolf and the wolf looking at himself in the mirror/ using the reflection of water so they can all become wolfs; other speculate about sheep going behind the wolf and use the tools to unlock the collar of the wolf and passing wolf to the next person for the next person’s collar to be unlocked etc. We never know the real solution but one thing is for sure: the fact that the writer decided to put it this way (all besides Arisu dead with no solution) just put heart games to a whole different level.

WHY

I don’t understand why they hated her so much? Everyone wants to survive and this game just proved that. Like she wasn’t evil lol she was just a scared human

Legendarygamer

The collars would have exploded, no?

Esther

*I understand not all adaptations will be 100% due to creative choices, time constraints, & dramatization* (so don't come for me lol) Shibuki's character change from the manga was one of the things I highly disliked. If your interested & HAVE TIME read below 🤓 Shibuki gained emotional trauma from her previous game which was two of hearts. She learned about the game from other players she met on arrival. Like the show, she revealed only bits & pieces of info at a time. Understandable, since she didn't know Arisu & crew. The clubs game was also different in the manga. She was cooperative & helped carry the team. In the manga, they all actually spent time together & bonded. Her scene with Chōta had no sinisterly or manipulative vibe. She shared her first game story & life before the borderlands. She worked as a clerk & suffered from depression. Despite her strong facade she always had a weak will to live. She actually chose to die in the two of hearts game but ended up living. Chōta is timid & always felt weak under his dad's control. When compared to his friends, he always came up short. They connected through their trauma & only after they slept together, she started to make Chōta doubt. In the borderlands, Arisu felt free & alive. Karube has always been a fighter. His purpose was finding the beach & getting them all home. They had spirit & the will to go on. It also didn't help that Shibuki & Chōta had the same amount of visa thus creating tension & divide. In this hide n seek game, survival instincts kicked in for all of them. Arisu ended up last with the wolf & was going to risk his friends to live. It was Chōta who brought them back by reminiscing & reminding them about their friendship. Arisu eventually did try to give up the wolf & it was Shibuki who could've won. However, at the last minute she changed her mind. Like Karube & Chōta, she couldn't shoulder the burden of their lives. She realized she didn't have the will to go on. She gained compassion & friendship through them. I would like to think if she met Arisu & crew outside she would've been happier. Arisu, Karube, & Chōta had each other to lean on while she had no one. She told Arisu to live on for them. If they had portrayed her correctly, then her acceptance & sacrifice at the end would've meant something. Poor girl, no wonder why she freaked out first. This was the second hearts game she had to play, all the while not being completely healed from her first one. 💔

Anya

I think the show has done it on purpose by letting viewers learn from Nitobe in the previous episode about the heart game being the “game of betrayal” and thought players must have to go against each other so that when it turns out that seven of heart game is a “game of sacrifice between friends”, everyone is more shocked.

WHY

There was only going to be one winner, but there could have been more survivors. Give Chouta the wolf and work together to remove the others' collars with the tools helpfully provided. Chances are only the winner gets the visa so it's bye Shibuki at midnight but eh, our boys could all have lived to play another day.

draeonic 🪼

This was the episode that hooked me into Alice in Borderland. When I first saw this episode I was in utter shock and lost for words. You guys are in for a wild ride. Thank you guys for the upload!

Silvana Salinas

I always lose it when Karube, Chota, and even Shibuki die by accepting their fate at the end. The flashbacks broke me. You can really feel Arisu’s pain and devastation with his screams when he loses them. It’s gut wrenching. 😭 Kento Yamazaki is such an outstanding actor. I love the emotional pull of this show and the constant mind games. Ya’ll aren’t ready. It gets much much darker...

Betsy

💔😭

Anya

Nah, if I check YouTube I’ll crash out. I’m better than that 😂

GreetswithJudgement

It’s all about showing to arisu and the viewers that the rules are the rules and some games simply have no solution. There was always going to be one winner. Also, the “sheep hide well” is about the players being selfless and sacrificing themselves for one person. That’s why the heart suit is the worst

Esther

This makes more sense.

GreetswithJudgement

Yes, this show is indeed based off a manga by the same name. I binged the show last week and I'm currently reading the manga to spot the differences. I just reached the end of this episode in the manga and can say that there are some clear differences in the adaptation. For one, Shibuki isn't portrayed as a selfish and manipulative person in the manga.

Alex Ramirez

You guys were so in denial about how serious the death game was it was pretty great. xD

Jonoridge

Maybe whoever said that was talking about the shockingly unexpected death of main characters in early episodes? /benefit of the doubt

draeonic 🪼

We learned from Nitobe that ♥️ cards are games of betrayal- you play with people's heart. It's all psychological. What are you going to do? How are you going to react? Three players are meant to sacrifice their lives for one hence, the "hide well sheep." It's meant for close relationships or it wouldn't mean anything.

Anya

I don't think the girl accepted that "Arisu was the one who deserved to live" lol but they had less than 30 seconds left, Arisu was on the other side of the field, he was never giving her the wolf anyways, she just accepted her fate and stopped fighting, she knew it was her lasts moments so she hugged Chota and prepared herself for the inevitable.

Cinnamon Girl

Poker face too strong, I really did think you were serious about the Eiffel Tower 😂 But yeah this is the episode where everyone watching makes up rules because surely they won't kill off 3/4 of the main cast on ep 3? SURELY? But no. The rules don't lie, and they're completely stated at the beginning of the game. There was nothing in there about the collars exploding if you tried to remove them, btw. "Sheep, hide well": they did end up hiding, did they not?

draeonic 🪼

YouTube comments go check them out lol

Studio Geck

If you go look at our YouTube comments that’s where it came from. Brig wasn’t making it he was just talking about the YouTube comments😂

Studio Geck

💔 Kento Yamazaki's reaction & scream did it for me. 🥹😭 Kento did an amazing job portraying such anguish & grief!👏 Welcome to the hearts game!♥️💔 *The adaptation of this scene was waayy better than the manga. I was shocked when I read it but cried when I watched it. What a sick twist to have Arisu witness Karube's death! In the manga, he actually didn't see any of his friends again since he ran off. They all kept communication til the end & he crashed out when he won. He burnt the place down to send them off & vowed to avenge them. 💔😭

Anya

Lol this show is peak but not AoT peak

Luke Fox

Yeah I mean to me this show is one of my favorite live-action shows of all time but I would never compare it to AOT. They are completely different, they need to stick with the squid game comparison lol.

Luke Fox

Brig setting the show up for failure with that aot comparison

Legendarygamer

This is like in episode 3 of Arcane when [spoiler-free] all died. Like I was shocked! Great acting from Kento Yamazaki. Also, I took the “sheep hide well” stuff to mean that the point of the game was for the sheep to hide and sacrifice themselves and choose a wolf to survive. By hiding, the wolf can’t “save” them by transferring the wolf to another person. I think it was Chota who was telling Arisu that he should live on.

Elle B.

Doesn't matter how many times I rewatch this ep. even though I know it's coming, I start shaking and almost cry over Karube and Chota and I feel bad for Shibuki still. *sigh* Yeah, yall are in for it now.

Solivigant Kaiba

Fucking this!

GreetswithJudgement

they said hide well sheep : the wolf is the person whos gonna survive so if you do care about this person/wolf then as his/her friends/sheep you should hide so the wolf doesn't find you and make you the wolf instead. its a sick game for friends or childhood friends

Eywa

Yeah, comparing this show to AoT is like comparing a morning soap opera to Shakespeare. You will have to look for years to find something that can top AoT

C2-H5-OH

Such a great episode! The one that stuck with me the most. You’re in for a ride Geks.

GreetswithJudgement

Let’s go! Thanks so much! Let the chaos begin…!

Betsy

This being up there with AOT? That’s some diabolical shit. I like this show but it ain’t AOT level. That’s simply outrageous. Who is saying these things? 😂

GreetswithJudgement

Whoever compared this to AoT got me heated lol. Gotta be the biggest blasphemy I ever seen. Good show tho, but that comparison is wild. Like comparing a snickers bar to full-on entree.

jblakk

This show is definitely not up there with Aot😭😭 still love it though 🙂‍↔️

yes it was based off a manga and i’m pretty sure there was an animated version (I think it was only a few episodes or something I don’t know for sure)
