Now that I finished my exams I can finally watch this!!! I know I'm late, but I will comment like this video was released today hahahah I didn't like Atsumu at first, but as I kept rewatching the show, I loved him more and more. And also, it happens something later when the match is finished that it's a statement that goes even further than the story here in high school. It set a new tone for me, and that was the moment I knew Haikyu wasn't just a silly high school anime about volleyball, but a much bigger thing than I thought, if that makes sense

It's okay if you don't feel the same about characters as we/the fandom does. But I am really curious to see how these feelings might change on the rewatch after the show is actually fully done. My opinion did a whole 180 after rewatch as a person who used to hate on Oikawa or Tsukishima on my first watch. And the ending opened a new perspective on every character, main and background included. Also spending too much time in this fandom probably makes us feel way more attached to all the characters than we're supposed to lmao. Those quarantine tiktoks about Haikyuu forever changed my brain chemistry ahahah. Before that I didn't even care for most of the characters Anyway love the video!

He's one of the first "villains" that doesn't actually dislike or have a grudge against someone in karasuno. He gets just as excited to see Karasuno do something cool as he does his own team and it just makes him want to try it himself / gets him feeling more competitive. He just has a fun, goofy and over the top personality... That being said... I actually prefer Kita and he's one of my favourites from outside of Karasuno XD

He’s the most sweet, reliable, and straightforward character you can get. And his backstory gets me teary-eyed every time. The way he was this ominous force of power until the moment you guys realised he’s just hard-working guy was killing me. The Kita stans did a great job keeping his reveal under wraps, I’m so glad you guys like him! His chapters in the manga are absolutely amazing, true life-inspiration material haha!

2024-12-27 16:58:21 +0000 UTCSure, when I first watched it Oikawa and Atsumu’s personalities seemed a bit too coincidentally similar, especially for their positions (overly dramatic, sassy, bratty, the original ‘pretty boy’ of their teams)(& that signature crap eating grin lmfao) for me to feel like Atsumu was very original. Atsumu and Oikawa both were very attached to Kageyama in terms of plot, and especially more than anyone else in Karasuno (as of now I haven’t read time skip) . I understand that is because they are all setters, but that’s just another reason on top, that with their personalities so similar, I didnt appreciate the fact that they were both setters too. This to me felt like they just needed another classic enemy to make us more attached to inarizaki and just chose an Oikawa double and changed up a few details to do it. This was a while ago when I first watched it through the first time however, and reading through some of the comments analysis of this topic is actually really interesting so maybe yall will change my mind lol. Also, this isn’t me saying they are carbon copy’s of each other (especially not in backstory and motive) but I’m just saying that during my first watch through they seemed too similar for me to really like Atsumu as an individual

When you delve deeper you can see how insecure for example Oikawa is (I love him for it) in regards to Kageyama and him not being a genius and how hard he has worked. On the other hand Atsumu is absolutely goated at the game and at the same time he has true passion and hunger for the game. Whereas Oikawa might use his quips and general demeanour as almost a shield for his insecurities, Atsumu is fully confident and is very pure in his expression as far as we've seen at the moment. That's why he comes across as such an ass, he has no filter. But again that's why he's so upfront about his love for the game. If you've noticed he's complimented Hinata and Nishinoya and overall good plays and Osamu even comments that he regresses into a child during the game. I think it's completely fine to not find him appealing but I wonder how you'd feel about him on a rewatch or after finishing the story of Haikyuu. I mean I also prefer Oikawa between the two but can't help adore Atsumu. As for the comparison to Aoba Johsai, I genuinely don't see it at all. Inarizaki is more Shiratorizawa and even I'd say a mirror for future Karasuno whereas Aoba Johsai was once compared to Nekoma by Ukai maybe and gets their explosive power from Oikawa's masterful leadership. Edit: Uh actually I just thought of why some people might find it surprising that you haven't connected to Atsumu yet. I think Atsumu is the most similar to a real life goated athlete personality wise. Think Kobe. He's amazing, he's athletic, he's competitive but he also is kind of an ass. Still, he's so entertaining in his love for the game and his unfiltered way of being. I think every great athlete wants to be more of an Ushiwaka, the strong silent type, but usually they're more like Atsumu

While he's in my top 10, I can't say I'm surprised you gguys don't like him. I just remember that he grew on me and that his bratty behavior is actually what endeared him to me. I've watched the anime 3 times and read the manga that many times as well, so it's probably the rewatches that solidied him into my top 10. I'm especially eager to see the final arc animated. On top of their skilled plays and mindsets, one of my favorite thing about Atsumu's team is actually their relationship with Kita and the twins' relationship. The whole dynamic is what makes them likable to me anyway.

If people didn't gas Atsumu up to being "husband" and continually doing it, he may not of gotten overlooked so much. I can't say yet (nothing major spoiler just rather you see it naturally) but he has an important reason as to why I REALLY like his character and would probably rate him higher than Oikawa based on this reason. The next few eps are bangers, can't wait to see the reactions

Kita is the embodiment of the notion that the small things you do daily build you up - they're what make you YOU. His rather dry but still caring and reliable personality always make me smile like a proud parent WJHBWJHB Unlike the rest of his team, who are chaotic, sometimes annoying(Atsumu), and definitely his complete opposite, Kita exudes so much calm, chill energy that I can't help but listen carefully to every word he says. He's one of the most interesting and wise characters introduced in Haikyuu, not just for his deep contemplations and philosophy about life, but also because he always delivers on what he says he will do. Like the episode says, Kita can absolutely pull off whatever he can do in practice, and it's always such a joy to see reactors take a liking to him HAHA! I'm loving the Kita love, and while yes, this match is one of the longest in Haikyuu so far, it's so worth it towards the end, when the stakes get progressively higher and everything gets even more intense. I can promise you guys that from this episode on, this match becomes FAR superior. It's actually amazing what the Inarizaki match was able to achieve despite us not really knowing the opposing team that well. Looking forward to the next drop!! I'm so excited to see it!

Oikawa spins the ball vertically and Kageyama spins the ball horizontally. We already know Kageyama learned serving by watching him so making their serve routines similar is a nice detail.

Most reactors and fans of the show don’t see it because they don’t like his character that much. I’m guilty of that when I watched this for the first time. I was too pissed off to actually see how great of a player and setter he really was. It’s actually so impressive. I also had a feeling the Geks weren’t going to like Atsumu. Oikawa is written to be funny in a way with how sarcastic and stuff he is, but we see more of him over a span so viewers grow to like him. With atsumu, he was shoved in our face right at nationals were the stakes were higher and we didn’t have time to grow with him and understand him like oikawa.

So I do see it. and yes, Kageyama has the same pre-serve routine Oikawa does, he's always had it actually!

Atsumu was definitely a grower for me LMAO which is crazy because Oikawa is my favorite character and they share some similar personality traits, but they're also so very different and Atsumu to me has always been a little hard to like, so i get it 😭 but he is amusing and entertaining. I actually like his twin, Osamu better though personally.

What other team have we faced that was able to perfectly mimic Hinata and Tobio’s insane quick after seeing them do it once? It’s not like he had the time to practice that. He literally just did it on a whim because he thought it looked cool. 💀 He also has the deductive skills of Oikawa and is capable of pretty much hitting the ball exactly where he wants to go when serving. The dude is an absolute monster. Not only just at setting (which is what he is known for) but at serving and receiving as well.

I don't think you necessarily have to like him/fear him more than oikawa or that he has as much "aura" to use brainrot. In reality, I think oikawa is a national level player but his team was never good enough to make it to nationals because of ushijima so he just didn't get national recognition. You could honestly argue if oikawa had tsukki and noya on his team that they could beat ushijima. I think atsumu is distinct from oikawa though because he's like a goofier oikawa but without all the insecurities oikawa has of not being good enough to beat kageyama and ushijima. Atsumu is a little more like hinata in that he just really loves playing great volleyball. Also I agree kita is goated, and people like him a lot they just weren't going to spoil it. Also he's the captain if it's not obvious so it is quite interesting having him on the bench. Also, on nishinoya being targeted by atsumu, brigg pointed it out before that nishinoya is actually kinda sucky at receiving float serves and not as practiced with overhead passes which is one of the best ways to counter them and atsumu has the best float serve in the nation as a highschooler. It's hard to portray how hard a good float serve is to receive, but honestly the show is really close to how it is in real life. I would take receiving hard jump spin serves 10/10 times over a good float serve unless the spin serves are being hit by college/pro players tbh.

He is just as driven for volleyball as Kageyama, Hinata, Ushijima, etc. And has high standards for himself and his team. Where Oikawa was more complimentary. As for Atsumu being a Oikawa knock off I think that's just a very surface level assessment theirs not much similar between them character wise besides they play the same position and both have fan girls, even if they are both cheeky especially with kageyama lol.

Atsumu's first introduction was him giving a snarky comment to Kageyama he's definitely not written to be likeable off rip, he's a pompous little shit that you cant help but sorta end up liking throughout the match, because yes this is the longest match in haikyuu and watching him and his brother be brothers and contantly bicker is pretty endearing lol. Similarly with Tendou where he's certainly meant to be creepy and weird at first you cant help but kinda like him after the match. However when people tell you "he's my goat" or "my favorite character" it creates a disconnect from what the shows trying to depict as the expectations are being given to you by your fans and not the show itself. I'd say this episode is when I first really started to really like Atsumu and the rest of Inarizaki, feeling like god dammit as much of a lil shit that he is he's pretty funny. but I doubt you guys will end up feeling the same feelings as if you went blind like me since your expectations were hindsight merchanted from the start. (but hey that's just my opinion maybe I'm wrong)
