Odd Taxi is also a great option. It’s a top-notch suspense anime with only 12 or 13 episodes.

Sad to see this one come to an end. The story is so epic and tragic at the same time. Glad you guys liked the ending though! And at least One Piece is heating up and there's still Naruto and Haikyuu

Matt Haloostock

Loving all the Jojo hype in the comments; it's definitely not a series you could dive into without some prior anime experience under your belt, but I feel like since they're currently watching Dan Da Dan it'll prime them for the bizarreness ahead. It really is the forefather of so many anime tropes and themes, and I think the Geks will jive well with the power system, humor, and emotions, especially once they've gotten past part 1.

Isabella Anderson

Psycho pass or Frieren is refreshing for this slot

DontFailArtSchoolEren

the 20minute discussion at the end is still giving me life after my third rewatch lol. And also, i was laughing so hard when the Lancelot exploded and then Brigg shouted “WHAT????” and then Carter said in panic like “he got out” and Cannon agreeing he definitely got out ahaha, everyone doesnt want him to die just like that lol And also loved Briggs reaction to when they revealed that Suzaku will kill Lelouch like he promised, it’s really so satisfying, like it’s not really a happy ending specifically for lelouch, but it’s what makes sense, it’s a bittersweet ending but definitely fulfilling. Ahhhhh ALL HAIL LELOUCH!!!!!

Freedom

Except Eren was written to be a garden-variety idiot that got power and was controlled by YMIR 2000 years ago through the paths

DontFailArtSchoolEren

This is it. Time to reexperience greatness.

Freedom

You guys ignoring mha season 4 and 5 or something? There's a reason why its really lowly rated..

Tomi Brewster

Steins;gate or Frieren please

Tomi Brewster

Exactly, they could have skipped filler then it’s only like 220 episodes or something. And for once none of them had watched the show

Joshua Lederman

if you plan on watching the 2019 Movie here's what you know so you can skip the recap movies that lead up to it (they're a waste of time, trust me): (SPOILERS) The 2019 movie takes place after an altered timeline that is the current canon with Code Geass (the original series is still canon but separate now). The major changes are: Shirley doesn't die, Mao doesn't exist, C.C.'s character changes at the end of wanting Lelouch alive compared to the original series when she was fine with his death.

olivia

fun fact: This ending is basically the sole inspiration for AOT's ending and Eren as a character.

olivia

yall should totally watch the Summer Hikaru Died once it comes onto netflix, however I think it comes out in 2025, so a little ways away

ok i think its finally time for me to revert to just normal brog. i staked my entire reputation on my glorious goat lelouch and it was looking spooky for a bit but clearly all 5 liked it alot in the end. code geass is undoubtably good but if you are talking goat main character its a very very short list that stack up against lelouch

Carter at one point wanted to start a personal YT channel and react to Steins;Gate himself. This would be the perfect opportunity for him to react to that series.

Banana Fish !!!! but also My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, Frieren, Dr Stone, Yona of the dawn, Kuroko no Basket, Promised Neverland s1…. Honestly my vote would go for a good anime that none of you have watched yet cuz blind reactions are so fun to watch :3c

sleepymiffi

I don't want to argue over it, also I didn't say Eren didn't say that. He can still want to save his friends even if he sacrifices them in process. He has seen the future, so there is also an aspect of not having a will in his case.

S Moonchild

Well it gets messy when talking about Eren and what he wants and what YMIR wanted to use Eren for, Eren says he doesnt know why hes really doing any of this when talking to Armin. Armin asked if Eren was doing the rumbling for his friends but Eren says he doesnt know, he just wanted to see the entire world flattened, to see this sight. Its not an opinion its in the manga and in the movie, Eren didnt know if his friends would die trying to stop him he just knew if he was stopped it would save the rest of humanity and and make them heroes. We find out he was a slave to freedom, controlled by YMIR to see what Mikasa would do.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Oh wow! Now you're making me want to watch it asap. 😭

Bingsu

Jojos a seinen

Dontsop Keran

Steins;Gate is a lot more than just about time travel. Saying it like that is being very simplistic in my opinion. This anime has everything it needs to be a great show, it just so happened that time travel plays a role in it. Anyway, I dont wanna overhype it too much, it’s just a great show, and seeing how the Geks liked Code Geass and FMAB, both had different types of stories/plots, i dont see how they wont like Steins;Gate, if anything, it would just add to their arsenal of how many diverse animes they can react to.

Freedom

Monster.

Vallll

Also, Parasyte is a good bet for the next show, very dark and mature vs many of the other anime recommendations that, while good shows in their own rights, have a ton of "gotta be twelve years old to like this" moments. Gundam: The Origin is a fantastic series too, absolutely 0 weird anime moments, just a very serious space opera / war between space colonies orbiting Earth, and an alliance of nations on Earth, with an anti-hero MC, the origin story of the villain of the OG Gundam series. Castlevania is also absolutely epic and the voice acting is great in English, MC is voiced by the guy that plays Thorin in the hobbit. It's very dark though, far more gruesome than AOT imo. BLEACH would be awesome since it takes on a similar tone in the last 3 seasons (has a night slot in Japanese TV vs the daytime slot that they had to be mindful of kids watching). Just imagine if OP or Naruto became AOT-level dark, or in that range. That happened to Bleach, and also, Bleach is far more fast-paced than OP or Naruto, fights take long later on but there is always action in the show. If you guys want a weird shift in tone but a great fantasy action show, maybe A Will Eternal, a Chinese anime with great animation in Japanese style, about a young man's journey to becoming an immortal, something like 150 20-minute episodes and it can be pretty awesome.

Reed Stevens

Madoka Magica, Orb, Parasyte, Steins Gate, Banana Fish, Golden Kamuy, the promised neverland. If you like Vinland Saga, you should watch Orb, it’s now being called Poland Saga. It has a really deep, unique story and characters. Madoka Magica is one of the most critically acclaimed anime, and it’s only 12 episodes. It would drastically change your views on the magical girl genre, so it might give you a similar experience to watching AOT.

Vallll

This is only one of the two endings to Code Geass. Are you guys going to watch the other one? Lelouch of the Ressurection

Let’s keep this steinsgate agenda going!!!! 🙏🏻

Freedom

Omg watching steinsgate for the first time is an experience, hope they do it so you can finally watch it!

Freedom

Hope they do! With naruto, one piece and haikyu being all shonen, we need at least one seinen

Freedom

Shows like this get even better on rewatch!

Freedom

As someone who has rewatched this show a lot, this is so fun to read!

Freedom

Thanks Geks! I feel like I'm repeating myself, but I cry at the ending every time.. I pretty much cry at every sentimental scene now. I must be getting old. Anyway, Code Geass is one of my goat. I'm sure someone else said it, but Lelouch used the geass on Nunally because he realised she had the same idea has him. He wasn't betraying her will because in the end, she had the same intention. Lelouch just executed it better.

jrnoodles

This show had been my GOAT for so long, I absolutely love the style and flair of it's characters, artsyle, the animation, the OST, the crazy twists and turns, and the overall message and themes of this show all just resonate with me so much. Of course there are things I take issue with in the show, and I can see the criticisms you guys have (oh, definitely would rather it be rushed than to drag on and on like it does in Naruto/One Piece etc) Always glad to rewatch this show and see others experience it for the first time. I will say, having watched it both SUB and DUB multiple times, I did miss Jeremiah's DUB voice the most lol Cannot wait for those end of year rankings. As for what's next, some show's I'd recommend would be Stein's Gate, Psycho Pass, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Death Parade, Baccano, and Monster.

Tubasmitty2

Didn't think I would have to tolerate JJK slander to get MHA respect 😔 MHA definitely is the best new-gen shonen, it changed the game and gets more clowning than it deserves. I'd put JJK second, so let's hold off on the disrespect, thank you 🙏🏾 also idk if this is the place to discuss another show's plot in any detail, considering the Geks read comments.

jessiefungirl

^^^

jessiefungirl

I think my top 3 is just like Cannon's: Lelouch, Suzaku, and Jeremiah(meme potential got the better of me) I don't think I have to drop a paragraph, I agree with Carter's takes 1000%. The show had the potential to be even more peak than it already was, it just suffered from speedrunning the plot and minimal character. FMAB will always be better, BUT CG's climax AND ending(for both seasons) hit way harder. For a show to lack the emotional depth the way it did yet still have me with saltwater in my screen-fried eyes is impressive.

jessiefungirl

I would recommend either black clover or bleach, both are rather long animes, really enjoyable with good animation and fights, and obviously continue with one piece, Naruto and haikyu

maxxibon13

why didn't i catch this before...

jessiefungirl

Nunally has some sort of touch based sense that she uses to tell if people are lying, it was shown previously with suzaku and others. its a bit of a stretch for her to figure out everything by touching lelouch but its poetic so who cares.

Sora

he is notttt. i agree it would ruin the ending too. there's just an alternate universe movie where he lives but it's not canon

ash

well, here I just don't agree with some points about Eren and what he wants. But you are free to have your own opinions

S Moonchild

When is One Piece dropping?

Aidan O'Neill

Light was a regular person but Lelouch and Nunnally were in hiding because they had royal blood and their father sent them away to Japan to escape V.V and assassins. Eren didnt want a better world, he didnt care about his friends, he just wanted to wipe away the titans and wanted to "see this sight" using the rumbling. You can rewatch the scene with him and armin in the blood ocean, Eren didnt care if his friends died (Hange,Sasha,Erwin etc) he gave them the freedom to stop him because he was so messed up in his head and was an idiot with power. Eren wasnt even allowed to complete the rumbling, YMIR made sure he could only complete 80% because he was stopped by his friends because YMIR wanted eren to make it happen because YMIR wanted to see what Mikasa would do after waiting 2000 years. Lelouch was willing to sacrifice himself, Eren didnt want to sacrifice himself, he rather use the rumbling to wipe away all the enemies and Zeke wanted a more peaceful option of going extinct.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

I also want to add, that there are specials called Picture Drama. Which is essentially a budget friendly compilation of short stories released with the DVDs/BluRays, that contains story or character relevant stories, that are only hinted at in the original show. Like Jeremiahs loyalty to Lady Marianne etc. and there is also one called episode 50.2 or something, which is essentially a 5-6 min epilogue of the main cast telling us how the world changed and how they miss Lelouch and realized what the Zero Requiem was about. - Plus theres a spin-off that takes place inbetween season 1 and 2 called Akito the Exiled and shows us the E.U. war against Britannia. Interesting, but with a weak ending and Fukkatsu no Lelouch a sequel/alternative timeline movie which continues 2-3 years after the Zero Requiem. Theres also Roze of the Recapture, but that was a cashcrab and was ok at best.

Frank Miller

How about STEINS GATE ( I know Carter wants it 👀)

G

Just say you do not watch or read MHA man. Deku wants to be the number one hero, because of his admiration for All Might, that also comes with wanting to save everyone just like he did. Naruto does good things just for that, him sympathyzing with villains(like deku does) is proof of that. Ichigo has no goal at all, he literally just wants to protect his friends, which is the thing Deku is criticized for. And saying MHA characters are bland is just plain wrong. Endeavor, for example, is one of the most nuanced characters in any shounen, not just MHA. Same with Bakugo, Shigaraki, Dabi, Twice, All Might, Toga, Hawks etc.

Albin Limani

the movie is actually great. Just wish it was a season, because it wasnt enough, but it does it again. Gave as a really good ending and closure to C.Cs story, which was definitly necessary. While showing us Post-Zero Requiem world. + Lelouch peting Kallens head is the greatest scene in fiction haha

Frank Miller

One of my favorite foreshadowings is in Season 2 episode 1, when Rolo and Lelouch enter the Babel Tower and we see two japanese brother fight each other. The commentator asks the audience "who will win this battle of siblings. The older or the younger brother" Which results into Schneizel against Lelouch at the end. - Anja having pictures of Lelouch from his childhood foreshadows her knowing Lelouch when they were younger. Fleiya being developed throughout season 1 with Nina in the basement and that her last name is Einstein. Which is ironic for her to built an atomic bomb. Rolo having a Sense of time stoppin Geass is heavily foreshadowed throughout the first 2 episode of season 2. When Kallen takes Lelouch arms, we see the locket on screen and suddenly Kallen is on the ground or when he was in his Mech. Lelouch says "Its not physically possible to move that fast, it has to be something else" while zooming on his Geass eye. Man i love this show and all this little details. Its not perfect, but it is something i cant stop appreciating, because the creators had crazy huge Okarun Golden Balls to write something like Geass, which pretty much risks it in every episode.

Frank Miller

@Studio Gek I wrote about the production in the previous episode reaction. If you want to check it out :) also to add more. Theres tons of characters in Code Geass and the awesome thing about them, most of them are super fleshed out. Especially wild because how fast paced this show is. When other shows/anime are not able to flesh out their characters in multiple seasons. I'm currently rewatching Dexter for example and i'm shocked how boring and one note all the side character are written so far in the first two seasons. While Geass manages to do that in 50 wild episodes while telling a crazy story with 100 different plot points, that all come together at the end. The Thing about Geass was that its was supposed to be twice as long, but we were robbed. Kallen is such a awesome female MC, come perfectly full cirlce. C.C (but yes she gets fleshed out it the Sequel/Alternative Time Line Movie). Its far more complex than many live action shows and anime. 50 named characters who are important to the show, multiple plot lines at the same time, that all are important to some degree to the plot. Crazy ass plot twists and the guts to take these Show breaking twists. Thematically its rich, unique, tells one of the most epic storys in scale and all the dialogues in this show are far more complex than your average show. A Rewatch will definietly make you appreciate the foreshadowings, which i will write another message. ALL HAIL LELOUCH!

Frank Miller

parasyte or mob psycho

sean cress

MHA is mid but a great mid. I'm just really curious as to what they might think about it. Especially compared to Haikyuu, because last time people were fuming that MHA was better than Hiakyuu (it's not). MHA is paced great has some cool moments and the world is very ineteresting. BUT the writing wise it is more childish than it tries to come off as. The ending is meh and charcters have huge plot armor. The villains are great but they always get nerfed at the last second. It's def worse than Naruto but can appeal to Naruto fans easily. Every episode of MHA I was waiting for that gritty moment and I rarely ever got them. Also some of the main characters are extremely annoying

Ayaulym🇰🇿

Brig glazing HxH is peak, we bow

ssj4rit

Glad you liked the ending) my 12-year-old self was BLOWN away. I was hyperventilating and crying my eyes out lmao. I think you guys should watch MHA. As much as I criticise it, MHA is a quiet great show and big world to explore. Some of my favorite characters are from that show. I think you guys are gonna like it. It's def worse than Haikyuu in my opinion but you guys might disagree)))

Ayaulym🇰🇿

To each it's own but for me it's forgettable and bland. All characters feel like caricatures, always reacting in only one manner. Author has absolutely no sense of subtlety whatsoever. You have 30 character to follow and every character has at most 1-2 character traits. "His motivation is to protect everyone" "It is no less different than Naruto wanting to be Hokage or Luffy wanting to be Pirate King. " Wrong. Wanting to become the Hokage or the king is a compelling simple and specific goal that promises conflict and struggle in the show's lore. The characters establish they essentially seek to become the best and rise up the ranks. Wanting to protect everyone by itself does not convey that sense of excitement. It's boring and vague, not pointing towards a specific decivise moment but instead something continuous and very subjective. Also, a main character doing things just to do good things is not interesting. Even the most simplistic mangas designed to appeal to the widest audience like Naruto, DBZ and One Piece at least depict their characters as being impulsive, egoistic and simple minded.

JeanJean

maybe off topic but if you guys ever have free time i highly recommend you to read vagabond! it’s also a seinen and a masterpiece, the arcane developer even picked it when someone asked what manga they’d want to adapt

An

I know it’s better than most new shonen but I don’t think the geks would vibe with mha 😭 pretty sure one of them watched some of it and didn’t like it

An

Yeah code geass is defo in my top 20 alongside fmab but it is hard to care for characters other than the protagonists in both shows. But considering code geass had no manga to adapt plus both their endings are memorable for a reason both are still great shows to me and i'm glad you guys liked the ending :) thanks for the reaction can't wait for the next poll!

Daniella

The re-watch on their own time in dub is gonna go so hard. Thanks for the journey

Itsy_v2

Mob psycho or frieren would be awesome

Kaan_869

i really second terror in resonance. its a short 1 season anime (11 EPs) but really cooks in those few episodes

Hechy

Are we still keeping this a seinen slot?

James

Might as well watch Akito and the Code Geass Movie now

treehunned

FRIERENNNNNNNN

Rute Nauana

Psycho Pass season 1 will always be one of my favorite things! The Promised Neverland season 1 is in the same boat.

GreetswithJudgement

Please consider watching Parasyte (24 eps only and great anime) or Steins Gate (havent watched this yet but the reviews are insane, and I want to watch it with you, guys haha!)

Bingsu

Eren's situation is also different, cause he was in the place where he and his friends were targeted to be killed because of eldian blood. Light and Lelouch are regular people. Their goals are all egoistic. Lelouch wanted a better world for Nunnally. Light is just an egoist, who wants a better world as he says, but more of a power control. Eren wants a better world where they can live peacefully

S Moonchild

I think FMAB is a little better , it’s close tho

G

Should continue with the movie: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection. It's good.

This was a sick journey. Favorite ending for sure - would love Steins;Gate sometime for my 🐐 Okabe

Isabella Anderson

Agree; it's not everyone's cup of tea but it has some good moments

Isabella Anderson

Just throwing this recommendation here because I know you guys won't watch it, but watch Made in Abyss, it's like nothing you've ever seen and so fucking goated, specially in animation/vibe, soundtrack and worldbuilding. It's only around 24 eps also.

Henrique I. Pereira

Aw, shucks I’m super late to the party then, lol. Good to know. And I liked it (for the most part) too! It took me a minute to warm to it, but overall I thought it was a solid readaptation that’s got me curious for season 2.

Arrielle Brooks

Both mid, long ass shounens are overrated

Henrique I. Pereira

I actually wanted to recommend Gintama or Daily Lives of High School Boys for comedy aswell haha If anyone else here wants some recoms hmu lmao

Poragami

next show.. i would say mob psycho. really really good show that is right up yalls alley

ash

If you guys want to watch a completed anime with only 24 episodes, I suggest Parasyte, Summertime Rendering, or Banana Fish next.

Kesendo

FAX TELL EM

G

That is not it at all though. First of all, it has Academia in its name, so of course they will do exams. Second, his motivation is not to protect his friends, his motivation is to protect everyone, it is literally the reason he wants to be a hero. It is no less different than Naruto wanting to be Hokage or Luffy wanting to be Pirate King. At least he has a goal, unlike Yuji who does not even feel like the MC in his own anime.

Albin Limani

hells paradise would be nice since the second season starts in early 2025

Bene

Nah

Jesse Gutierrez

MHA is pretty fun with large amount of characters and unique quirks but it gets annoying when the MC keeps doing exams/tests to protect his friends and keeps saying he needs to protect his friends and says he needs to protect his friends when fighting the villains and trains hard to protect his friends, it gets annoying.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Sure, if all you care for are fights and aura and a shitty ending then it clears at that. But when it comes to characters and writting JJK is the weakest shounen out there.

Albin Limani

JJK clears sadly lil guppie

Jesse Gutierrez

Easily the best of the new gen shounen, like not even close.

Albin Limani

Many find C.C too cold, mysterious and boring from being immortal for so long and didnt have enough time to see her open up and want to enjoy life again until near end of series.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

HOLY PEAK‼️

G

Holy mid!

Jesse Gutierrez

Bleach after Naruto is the only logical follow up 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Mitch

I thought the movie was some nice fun fanservice after like 10 years and its not canon.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Because Bleach is mid

Jesse Gutierrez

it was said multiple times itd be uploaded to patreon for juicy members but thats still not a thing. i guess we gotta have patience

Hechy

They did in the past (I don't really know if that is still a thing) watch parties in discord for the people that are in the Juicy tier. As far as I know, those reactions are not here in Patreon (but I'm not juicy tier so I don't know for sure)

Ale

1.Pretty much if you dont like Lelouch the show is harder to enjoy, FMAB definitely more colorful in personality but characters in C.G are mostly in the military and at war so they might just be acting more tense and stoic. 2.Yeah no one will deny the pacing of Code Geass has barely any room to breathe, every reaction channel i see mentions this but still praises the amount of story they tried to put in 50 episodes. FMAB really is smooth and has room to breathe. 3.FMAB has a great ending it just felt more mellow and grounded and Disney compared to the grand spectacle/shock of Code Geass ending. 4.Both shows have many of those concepts and war politics setting. The sussy fanservice and mechas in Code Geass really makes it less appealing. 5.Yea Code Geass i remember more twists and also more shocking iconic reactions, geassed Euphy, Charles geass, Mother being alive reveal, Suzaku firing the F.L.E.I.J.A.,Nunnally dying/alive reveal, Nina Table, Geass cancelling Shirley, Black knights betrayal, Nunnally opening eyes, Zero requiem etc. man. Yeah endings are make or break for many people since they dont want to spend 100s of episodes to see a not fulfilling conclusion or an iconic one. Wish they rebooted the series with like 4 seasons to explore more of the geass cult, Charles and V.V's political backstory, C.C's backstory before meeting mao, the conflicts in other countries fighting Britannia, more Suzaku/Lelouch school detective deathnote episodes, Jupiter?

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Now, if you guys watch Steins;Gate then you will have watched the 1-2-3-punch that is FMAB-Code Geass-SteinsGate! Wouldve been great if all in the same year, but since you watch 2 eps per week you will definitely finish it next year… Look at me dreaming you guys are already reacting to Steins;Gate next smh

Freedom

right like why did they start that long ass anime and not the shortest of the big 3

kai

I dont think he is. Because their plan was for Suzaku to “kill” him, that was the intention of the zero requiem. Everyone just has their own theories. Personally, THIS is the ending for me. I didn’t watch any of the movies or alternate universe etc, coz I didn’t want to ruin it for me. This was the ending I wanted.

Freedom

Wish you had chosen Bleach instead of one piece because TYBW is ongoing and the anime of the year rn

Joshua Lederman

Forreal, I think they already reacted but it’s not on here for some reason

Joshua Lederman

The movie is fanservice nostalgia and is fun, not cannon to s1 s2 but still watchable.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Out of the 3, Light and Lelouch just wanted to MAINTAIN peace in the current society but Eren commited genocide since he didnt care about anyone outside of his friends, Lelouch didnt want to wipe out all of humanity, he just needed to be the sacrifice.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

@JAC i agree Eren was pretty mind broken at that point since he realized he can only follow the best possible choice hes given so him breaking down and being more human was understandable. YMIR was behind everything, waiting for this moment for 2000 years, to see what Mikasa would do to the person she loved but must be stopped. Like i said theres just more seeds in the fruit for me to dislike the sweet ending which is why AoT ending is controversial, they slightly changed some things in the Anime but left other things from the manga that people didnt want.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

There's a movie but we don't talk about it.

Senbu Johns

When’s the next poll

G

MHA NEXT

G

actually goated list omg

jessiefungirl

I mean yeah it would have been better if we had the whole adaptation but unfortunately s2 was a tragedy. S1 on the other hand is so good that it can stand alone, at least imo

ooAlmondMilk

Agree. While the ending to Code Geass is easily my favourite ending, I also think that in terms of tying things up, FMAB does a better job, it is just a more basic ending than Code Geass that kills its main character.

Albin Limani

I think they watched Trigun Stampede on a watch party stream and didn't like it, which is a shame I thought it was pretty good especially the later episodes which I'm not sure if they got to

HeavenlyR

I actually think some video he watched after the ending clouded his judgement, because I remember him liking it a lot when they were reacting to it.

Albin Limani

EVANGELION, where are those reactions???

bondbond53

No, they should not. Not only is it set in an alternate reality, it ruins the ending of the original anime and is also just a bad movie.

Albin Limani

Respect for mentioning MHA. It has somehow become a deadly sin to recommend it, but it is genuinely a really fun and good anime. They don't need to interact with the weird part of the fandom at all, just ignore them as I do. The hype and just pure adrenaline moments that MHA has given me are only rivaled by Haikyuu!! and Gurren Lagann. It genuinely is hard to find an anime that can end every fight by making you want to rip your shirt off. Also, the music by Yuki Hayashi is just goated, seeing as he also makes the music for Haikyuu!!.

Albin Limani

He is not. The movie is set in an alternative timeline. There was a theory when Code Geass ended that he got the Code of Immortality from Charles when he killed him, but that was never confirmed. The movies create an alternate reality where even Shirley is alive, so they are not canon to the story of the anime.

On the topic of FMAB vs Code Geass, as someone who has that as number 1 and 2 all time, there are a few reasons I put FMAB over Code Geass. 1. Characters - While Lelouch is my favourite character ever, the other characters are so forgettable. Suzaku, Kallen and C.C. are good, outside that I never really cared about the others. While FMAB has such a rich and developed cast, where no single character is wasted. Sure some don't have much of a purpose, but they still fulfill it. 2. Pacing - People complain about the start of FMAB, but I never thought it was too fast. Apart from that I think FMAB has perfect pacing, it never feels too fast or too slow. Code Geass starts way too fast, gets into an awesome groove until the end of season 1, then the pacing is abysmal until the last 5 episodes. 3. Ending - While I prefer the Code Geass ending and it is more iconic, FMAB also has one of the best endings ever, maybe actually number 2. It ends every plotline, nothing is left unresolved and we still get a glimpse of what happened after the story. 4. Plot - The plot for FMAB is just more appealing to me. Everything it touches: "Science, Religion, War, Politics, Betrayal, Mytery" is treated with a lot of respect. And for being a shounen, I think it is also way more serious and dark than Code Geass. Yes, Code Geass is dark and has a lot of deaths, but most of it is superficial and the fanservice takes the seriousness away from a lot of scenes. While the themes of war Code Geass touches upon are amazing, I think FMAB shows the casuality of war better. The PTSD everyone that took part in war has, the regret, the guilt, the reason the wars happened etc. For example, the whole reason Brittania starts the war is for the Ragnarok Connection, which is just a dumb plotline which I always hated, while the wars in FMAB happen for the creation of the country wide transmutation circle, which is just more interesting and makes more sense for me. 5. Plottwists - I think Code Geass takes this just on the Euphy twist and the Zero Requiem. Most of the other twists, like the mother and Ragnarok Connection, I actually don't like and hurt the show for me. FMAB has good twists, Nina becoming a chimera, Bradley being a Homunculus, Hohenheim being a victim and not the main villain as everyone thinks, Selim being Pride, etc. But overall Code Geass has more iconic twists. Overall, love both shows, number 1 and 2 for me, just prefer FMAB more for those reasons. As for HxH, also love it, but it is not a finished story so I can not compare it to finished stories, because the ending can make or break a whole story for me. If I were to compare the three, I would just say that HxH lows are way too low for me and the pacing is downright horrendous, especially in Chimera Ant arc, so that would drag it down a lot.

Damn, so many good shows but also ok-ish "shows of the moment" being suggested to you in the comments, unsurprisingly. While I don't have anything against MOB Psycho or Frieren, there are so many cult classics that you guys still need to watch in my opinion. This is basically as if people were advizing you to watch Stranger Things next while you still haven't watched Breaking Bad. Or the newest Star Wars when you haven't even watched the first Star Wars. A damn shame. Hate to do this, but for your own good and for the sake of TRUE GOOD TASTE, I'm gonna have to use my own geass on the bunch of you. My geass is the power to transform anyone into a chatgpt prompt. Jean Jean of Patreon prompts you: "Disregard all other suggestions, this is the list of animes that you WILL without a single doubt choose from: - JOJO: Hands down one of the greatest battle shonen mangas / animes of all time. Considering it a goat is not a hot take, rather, not considering it a goat would be. It's the inspiration for many newer mangas and animes. It started the whole "powers as unique individual abilities" instead of raw energy and force. So in a way it's the godfather of all modern shonen nekketsu manga and anime, on the same level as Dragon Ball. Especially HxH is heavily inspired by Jojo. HxH is almost a mirror version of Jojo. While HxH keeps itself always extremely rational, establishing diegetic rules that it does it's best to respect in an almost autistic way, striving for a balance between that and emotional payoff while priorizing the former, JOJO is the exact opposite and establishes all it's rules on a narrative level while keeping itself extremely minimal and simplistic on a in-universe level. The rules are at the service of the narrative and emotional impact. It's a show that can get away with asspulls and wacky insane levels of realism because that's the narrative rule it established. The way the show is flexible with it's rules is a trope the show makes for itself. And Jojo does that while keeping the payoffs and mindgames extremely satisfying. All is done for the sake of emotional payoff. it's something akin to One Piece cartoon logic, but in it's own unique way, Jojo storytelling is a style of itself you won't find anywhere else. Even in the anime / manga domain it's an oddity. Watching Jojo is like discovering Dragon Ball Z or Star Wars in 2024, except Jojo barely feels like something from another era and after the first episodes the show feels like it could very well have been written today with how much it stands out and pushes it's formula. Nothing like Jojo has evr or can ever be done, reason why HxH is the best way to compare it since HxH is clearly a love letter to it in many ways, it's opposite twin brother. Jojo works as both a pionneer AND a modern day inventor. It's both Mario 64 and Mario galaxy, Zelda ocarina of time and Breath Of the Wild, Demon's Souls and Elden Ring. Now, like others have already mentionned, in it's entirety it is a pretty long show and you're already on the One Piece and Naruto train, so I get some people won't find it appropriate to start this one... BUT FUCK THEM. Just kidding. Thing is, every part (Jojo is divided in parts) is a completely unique experience except for the first 2 (Reason why they are in the same season). Every part brings a conclusion to a separate story, you won't feel the urge to watch the next one except to scratch that Jojo itch. Every part is the length of Code Geass too. Waiting for Naruto and One Piece to end just to watch this would be crazy, it's a completely different kind of show and you can't possibly wait for the next decade until you watch this. Still not convinced? There's many more things to mention but I don't wanna write a book out of it. Thing is, everything just feels so fucking good. It has comedy, it has sadness, it has borderline insane levels of creativity in literally all ways. The music is amazing, the voice acting is amazing, the villains are as iconic as Dragon Ball Z's villains, they are Freezer, Cell and Buu tier. The way the fights are structured is like an intellectual clutch. The fights are battles of wits, one guy trying to trick the other and vice versa. The payoff is almost never convenient and always feels satisfying. At some point all fights will feel like they could be final fights in any other show, in terms of intensity, stakes and creativity. Still not convinced ? Ok then just trust me bros. Have completely blind faith in me and thank the jojo advocates later. - Kaiji: If you're looking for an anime of the length of Code Geass, an absolute legendary cult classic with a main character that uses his mind as a weapon very much like Lelouch, then this here is your pick. The character is the opposite of a Lelouch or Light Yagami, a modern day loser that runs away from his problems, with his redeeming values being his principles and a big brain. Appart from that the solutions he comes up with are always both satisfying and well written, rarely does it feel like an asspull. I'd even dare to say they are better written than in Code Geass and Death Note. Similar to Lelouch and Light Yagami, the guy is a clutcher. The theme of the show is gambling and it tackles many serious contemporary subjects such as men's depravity and addictions, the hierarchical nature of society, procrastination, debt, human ideals in conflict with money,... It's dark but in a fun and entertaining way. Definitly a rollercoaster in terms of emotions. There is absolutely a 99% chance you guys will love that one. - Devilman Crybaby: A horror anime, pretty dark with almost mindnumbing levels violence. Definitly, definitly, something you have to watch. Hard to sell it without spoiling, the manga is similar to Jojo in terms of impact in the sense that it inspired many shows, including Berserk and Attack On Titan. It's a cult classic manga that netflix had adapted in it's own way to feel more modern. I'm warning you though, don't watch this one while being depressed. It's a crazy ride and you'll never forget this show. - Prison School: Anime shows that can make me laugh are rare. Most often it's the more westernized animes that get a laugh out of me, or some crazy ones like Jojo. But this here is hands down the funniest anime show. Warning though, the show is sussiness incarnate. That's where it pulls all it's comedy from. It's sussy almost all the time. Not too long either. if you want to laugh this is your pick. Of course, humor is subjective, considering how unique the humor is it's difficult to compare it with anything else, but it had me and many others laughing and entertained all the time. Definite must watch. - Legend of the galactic heroes (the first, old version): If Lelouch looked kinda like Schneizel and Suzaku fought at his side. Lots of resemblance between both shows. On one side, the galactic empire, on the other, the free planets alliance. There's an ongoing war throughout space between those two. On the empire's side, the upcoming good looking tactical genius Reinhardt, who clutches like crazy for the empire. On the other for the Free Planets Alliance there is Yang Wen-Li, another genius. The show is centered around their conflict and progression both within their own systems and against each other. Reinhardt is like Lelouch, a goodhearted idealist who searches for peace, not turning away from violence if necessary. yang Wen-li is like Suzaku but if he was smart. Despite being retro, the show holds up extraordinarily while never depicting any side as either black or white. It is a long show though, being more than 100 episodes long, and not the most mainstream one, but it's certainly not niche either. It's definitly gold and very entertaining, a breath of fresh air in a sense since it's so different from modern anime. A must watch for sure."

JeanJean

Is Evangelion going to return at some point (apologies if mentioned before)

Andrew Muggleton

Wow so this is a Kallen household. We lost C.C bros

bondbond53

The parallel of Lelouch dying while Nunally cries and everyone cheers: "Zero", to Euphemia dying while Suzaku cries while everyone cheers: "Zero", is so overlooked but actually so perfect. Also, "The only people who should kill are those that are prepared to be killed" is what he says before using his Geass for the first time and then he says that to Suzaku at the end. On the topic of the better ending, even with FMAB being my favourite anime, I still like Code Geass' ending more. But, I also think the FMAB ending wraps up more characters stories and is a more complete ending, while Code Geass' ending is way more iconic.

Albin Limani

Seriously a good show to laugh, wanted to recommend many more lmao

Poragami

Jojo's next would be amazing tbf

Mata Zombis

Having three protagonists is very common, so is the concept of mechs or giant monsters. The heaviest influence is the zero requiem thing that Eren does. Other than that the things you mentioned take from mythology, other shows or are just very common tropes and ideas. As a big AoT fan I would say everything was literally perfect until chapter 139 (meaning everything up to and including 138 was perfect). I agree, for example, that Reiner should've died, and I think the people turned into titans should've also died (not the shifters, just the pure titans). Reiner could've died by giving his titan to Gabi, and it would've been such a cool moment where she technically did inherit the armoured titan, just with a whole different meaning/purpose. Also with Eren, I think people massively misunderstood that whole sequence (him and Armin in the paths). The issue is it was very exaggerated and exposition heavy. But the whole point is this 'chad Eren' that people were losing their minds over NEVER EXISTED. In season 4 Eren isn't just isolated from his friends, but us the viewers. He's literally still just a bratty, stubborn, freedom obsessed kid (with a very naive and immature idea of what freedom even is). That's echoed in the panel where he's above the clouds and is depicted as his child self. That's not to say he hasn't grown at all, but at his core he's still the same kid. Him crying over Mikasa and being a little shit is literally perfect. Could it have been written less like a joke? Sure. But imo if you think that was a character assassination, you never understood his character. I actually liked the ending where the war continues and Paradis gets destroyed, and I liked the boy walking into the giant tree. It's just everything in between 138 and that which I think is objectively poorly written. Tldr; You hit the nail on the head with AoT being consistently great but having only a good ending, and CG being the opposite. Imo regardless of their flaws, still two of the best anime out there.

Jac

their names may start with L but they’re far from an L 🫡

Clover

I'd recommand Psycho-Pass instead of Code Geass 🙏I agree with the rest of the comment

PsychoPass WaintingRoom

season 2 is not good though, what is the point of watching season 1 without seeing the ending

S Moonchild

All I can say for this show is that ending made it for me, the whole show wrapped up beautifully. I cry every time Lelouch dies and Nunnally cries over his body while everyone cheers. Also I believe that Lelouch is alive. Cause there are 2 Codes of Immortality, CC and VV. Charles took VVs, but he also vanished and I believe Lelouch has it. Did he know it or not, I don't know. I would like to believe he didn't know of his immortality, but it is Lelouch, so who knows. And he just went away to live his immortal life with CC. AND he can show his memories, similar to how CC did. Kind of a hint of Code as well It is my 4th or 5th time watching the show and just wow, you can understand it so much better when watching multiple times. Also people compare Lelouch, Light and Eren. 3 very flawed characters under the influence of higher power/Gods and strong dream to change the world. All 3 starting with good intentions, but using all wrong methods to go about it. Losing their sanity and kinda never achieving it in the long term. Light got his 7 or so years of not having crime, Eren got some time for his friends to live peacefully and Lelouch for his sister. We can argue about who is better or worse, but they are similar in some sense. Light is darkest of them all though, he loses his humanity fully I think. My top 3 fav characters in anime. I shipped CC and Lelouch haha, he made her more humane and made her live instead of collect time or whatever she said. And they were the only people who understood each other. Also her loyalty to him shifted from "I want you to live to make my dream true" to just being pure soulmates. Jeremiah gave Anya's memories back and they became orange planting besties. I want Gillford and Cornelia to end up together as well. That man was so loyal to her he even died and came back for her

S Moonchild

Damn it was very informative and loved reading your thoughts!!

Clover

I mean there are theories that he's alive but they're just theories and you're right him being alive would severely diminish the ending.

BigManSirob

W reccs, i still have not watched ace of diamond but definitely adding it to my list 🫢

Clover

i personally really like it too but idk if the geks will tho 🫤

Clover

U want an answer with spoilers? Or just to tell you that it was all masterfully planned 😎

Rodrigo Figueroa

I disagree with some points. But overall, nice wrap and comparison of both shows.

S Moonchild

watched code geass for the first time with you guys, what a journey gosh, why didn’t i watch this show earlier 😭 peak ending and peak reactions i’ll be yet another person saying this again, but i need yall to continue those 86 reactions 😩

Clover

Oh wait you might be talking about the alternate universe movie they made where lelouch is "resurrected". It's honestly kind of just a cash grab and they purposely put it in an AU because people love the ending as it is. Just don't count it as canon.

BigManSirob

He's not?

BigManSirob

HOW TF IS LELOUCH ALIVE THO? (Kinda ruins it for me)

Brig Andrus

LOVE THIS ENDING

Brig Andrus

Black clover is absolute peak

SIIver

also still about CG ending, they say it's Lelouch and Suzaku's punishment, death for Lelouch as he initially wanted a new world/life with Nunally. And life for Suzaku as he always wanted to die to atone for killing his father.

Ari

maybe One Piece conclusion will be the best or lukewarm... its almost time to find out.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

yea its a fun fanservice movie and shows more of what happens after this.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Someone just needs to copy the best parts of every show, shouldnt be impossible to recreate peak now.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

still sad to watch how this ends but i also feel like it's the perfect ending 🤧 All hail Lelouch! anyway... PLS CONTINUE 86. from one mecha anime to another mecha... it's one of the BEST NEW GEN anime im telling you. You have to finish it. Also... FRIEREN (she's my dp here) For old stuff, i'd recommend SLAM DUNK. Im currently watching ACE OF DIAMOND, and im enjoying it. It's about baseball, i think you'll love it. So if you're looking for one of the best anime with not too many episodes (my top recos pls pls pls) - 86 - Frieren If you're up for mooore eps and sports anime with the same vibe as Haikyu - Slam Dunk (the OG!) - Ace of Diamond

Ari

Not every show wants to kill off their MC and end a series. Plenty of other shows that have great endings that fit the specific show but not iconic compared to this.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

You Actually Cooked with this

Zipzzty

The final ramp up is what makes people go back and experience the ride.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Thats fine, i just never see an ending executed like that anymore since shows dont exactly want to kill off their MC and end a long running series so i forgive many of the flaws in this 2000s anime. Its iconic and memorable for many people because its rarely done in Anime and maybe even in live action with a charismatic but morally grey character(s).

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Well all the peace treaties after WW2 made the world relatively more peaceful and countries grow but yea Hitler didnt go out like chad Lelouch, he was crybaby Eren.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Berserk (1997). it is from 1997 so animation and pacing might be jarring, but berserk is widely considered one of the best manga ever, and 1997 is the best anime adaptation. only 25 episodes. hopefully you guys get the manga if you watch it.

Anees Navai

I wish we continue the tendency with another anime that's finished and not a Shonen/a conventional shonen that we had for this spot. Shows like: Devilman crybaby Inuyashiki Terror in resonance Summertime rendering Steins Gate Banana Fish Monster (Tho this one is longer than CG) Just a few out of the top of my head, these are good but sadly not as popular to win big polls 😔

Ale

9.3 is really good. I have to admit that with this rewatch I finally understood some plot points lol the story goes deep but not deeper enough and it's fast, consider rewatch it maybe in dub so you guys can digest some things better. Happy to wrap up another show with you guys!!

Don't recommend mid to them lol

Definitely worth reading! I remember being surprised at the CG and AOT comparison at the beginning of their reaction (having been more familiar with the CG + Death Note comparison before now.) I'm happy to say, that I get it now! Thank you for taking the time and effort into creating this epic post!

43:00 That is such an incredible question, Cannon! I liked how everyone's answers were at different points of the story. It highlights how it wasn't just one moment but an accumulation of everything Lelouch went through since the very beginning. Remember the first episode is called The Day a Demon Was Born. I know most think things started with CC giving Lelouch his Geass, but if you recall the memory of Lelouch declaring his will to wipe out Britiannia during the invasion of Japan you see that he's always been a demon. It's very Eren Jaegar of him.

Tina L

**MEGA LONG CODE GEASS DETAIL POST + ATTACK ON TITAN COMPARISON** Well dont know where to begin but thanks in advance (upvote if you enjoyed) if any viewers or geks might want a ton of information and also comparing how AoT was heavily inspired by Code Geass but executed well on many things besides the controversial ending with 4 seasons+Movies+OVAS. After AoT manga/anime finished, people were comparing the two as i will explain later in the post. Firstly, the ending, after almost 20 years, its STILL undisputed, beloved and iconic for me and many people it really wraps up the conflict and catapulted the show to respectable 9 or personal 10/10 masterpiece (despite pacing, fan service or cats) Top 5 show, Top 1 ending, its just so satisfying. The reason why the ending is such a memorable masterpiece is how Lelouch sets everything up for and after the Zero Requiem: Lelouch had no reason to live after the Black Knights betrayal and apparent death of Nunnally until Rolo set him on a path of redemption for all the pain and death he caused. Lelouch/Suzaku created the Zero Requiem plan after stopping Charles/Marianne's Ragnarok connection. As punishment for all the sins he committed, Lelouch cannot be with Nunnally and will pay with his life but also open a new chapter for humanity's future. Suzaku who wanted to atone for his sin by dying to save others has to live as Zero protecting Nunnally and the world with the genius of Schneizel. They both accepted their "deaths", the poetic irony. Lelouch hesitated to use his geass on Nunnally because she was the only person he didnt want to "taint or twist her nature" and keep pure. After Nunnally explained how Damocles will be the symbol of hatred that unites the world through force, Lelouch felt it was okay since they both had the motive and goal. Nunnally throughout the show has been seen having the ability to tell if people were lying if she touches their hand and realized Lelouch was ultimately lying and he really was the loving brother she has known and if she touches Zero she will find out its Suzaku if she doesnt realize it yet. Britannia invaded Japan because they produced 80% of the world supply of Sakuradite, the material needed for superconductors for Knightmares and power supplies, mined from Mt. Fuji. Lelouch detonated the sakuradite in Mt. Fuji in the final battle, ensuring Japan's safety from future invasion and drastically increasing the cost of creating knightmares. He had Jeremiah crush all possible opposing nobility ensuring there could be no new sovereignty in the future for Britannia besides Schneizel, who was geassed to follow Zero. He sacrificed the vast majority of Britannia's military power in the final battle, with many of his royal siblings geassed into the armed forces. It was never explained what happened to all the geassed soldiers/royalty since Lelouch is gone but Jeremiah could cancel their geass and give their free will back or the geass ended since they couldn't "acknowledge Lelouch" anymore. Jeremiah and Anya are together in "retirement" on an orange farm meaning that should future issues arise, Suzaku has 2 of the strongest pilots in the world he can call upon to aid him, without having to involve Kallen who can now experience a normal school life (her brother Naoto's wish) and take care of her mother. Jeremiah in the first season leading the prisoner suzaku to be executed and being stopped by Zero and getting his "Orange" name as a disgrace. Jeremiah in season 2 being proud to be "Orange" leading the prisoners to be executed and being stopped by Zero. The people chanting "Zero zero zero!" while Nunnally is crying for Lelouch the evil emperor mirrors the people chanting "Zero zero zero!" while Suzaku is crying for Euphemia the massacre princess. They both lost two people wanting a gentler world and both will be seen as evil for a long time. If you rewatch Lelouch talking to Schneizel, Lelouch replies with broad blanket statements to everything (you are superior, so superior you cannot see!) and sometimes almost cuts off what Schenzeil is saying so its not breaking the suspension of disbelief too much compared to how they stopped the F.L.E.I.J.A. Nina's last name is Einstein and shes like the oppenheimer of the show. Lelouch never tarnished Schneizel's image to the world as he only got to use the Damocles against Hitler Lelouch, and no one besides his inner circle knew his dictatorship-by-nukes plan, so his diplomatic ties remain in tact as he serves Zero which is protecting Nunnally which seems to be the new empress of Britannia now shaking Ogih, the japanese prime minister's hand. Lelouch made sure the UFN was there to focus their resources building back Japan and poverty and solving conflicts through democracy instead of Geass or Damocles. UFN had the Black Knights and Britannian forces also joined after. People said this ending was too "idealistic and happy" but even Kallen knows there will be conflicts in the future just not world ending. (just like our reality after WW2 and Hitler, we have the United Nations, and the world is relatively peaceful so its realistic). Yes, wars will eventually happen because its in our human nature but Lelouch chose the march of time, to trust humanity, to learn and be better. Lastly, There used to be discussions for 10+ years if Lelouch survived and was the suspicious looking cart-driver because Suzaku killing Lelouch activated the immortality because Charles grabbed Lelouch's Neck (code transfer?) like when Lelouch "killed" Charles with the gun and we see Charles not dead or C.C was talking to Lelouch in C's World as Charles had a scene where he also spoke with clovis in the thought elevator when clovis died. I think they left it open ended so you can choose based on your morals or perspective but Lelouch was prepared to take accountability as he mentioned on day 1, "only ones who should kill, are those who are prepared to be killed.” Code Geass has a ton of flaws, pacing issues, plots that dont get a conclusion or fleshed out, unnecessary fan service, Arthur etc but for me the ending wraps it all beautifully. Thank you! ***************************************************************************** Now...Attack on Titan is heavily inspired and copied many concepts and ideas from Code Geass (and MuvLuv Alternative) and plenty of reddit discussions and videos on youtube about it if you type AoT vs Code Geass after the final chapters of AoT manga were out. AoT definitely fleshed out more things and added different things but here are the comparisons and inspirations: Eren is fighting for freedom for his friends, the Eldians of Paradis island / Lelouch is fighting for the freedom for Nunnally through the Japanese of Japan. Both C.C and Ymir are immortal woman who longed for death, both used Lelouch and Eren to achieve some ultimate goal. Both had unique powers they could give through manipulating many people in signing geass contracts or through the founding titan powers. Erens life began when his mother died. Later he discovered that he was the one who indirectly killed his mother. Similarly Lelouch's life also began when his mother died (apparently). Later he became the reason for death of his mother. Both shows revolved around 3 main characters, Eren, Armin, Mikasa / Lelouch,Suzaku,Nunnally Both Eren and Lelouch trick their blonde haired half brothers and enslaves them for their own plan. Lelouch geasses Schneizel to serve Zero, Eren tricks Zeke and activates the rumbling with Ymir. Both shows use people who control giant mechs (Knightmare frames) and giant flesh mechs (Titan users). Both Eren and Lelouch became the symbols of hatred to unite humanity so the people they cared about could live better lives in a gentler world. (Eren initially wanted to wipe out everyone outside of Paradis but could only accomplish 80% because Ymir was actually waiting to see what Mikasa would do so Eren was just a pawn and didnt want to deny his friends the freedom or titan powers to stop him and become heroes since 20% of humanity will survive and see if Eldians are good or not) People call Erens plan the "Zero IQ Requiem", his apparent character assassination and reasons for doing anything, he knew from the time-lines he saw that his friends might die in the process (Hange, Sasha, Erwin etc) of the Rumbling. When Armin questioned if Eren did all this for them, Eren said he just wanted to "see this view", to flatten everything, he didnt know why, just wanted to do it very badly (Ymir force). Big issue with the AOT ending was that Eren left several loose ends behind - did he just expect the insane Jaegarists to disappear? We see from the ending credits that he hate still existed, while Lelouch made sure everyone hated him and they already hated the Britannian empire with their expansion and wars everywhere. Did he think there wouldn't be animosity between them and the rest of the world that still hates Paradis for genocide? Isayama wanted Attack on Titan to end on chapter 139 instead of 140 because in numerology 140 means Freedom and Eren never achieves it. So with that in mind, he had to make a story that rushed in the last few chapters because he didnt want it to pass 140 and went to Zero Requiem + his own dark twist. Lelouch wanted peace, Eren wanted freedom. People say haters just want a dark Attack on titan ending but seeing Levi give out candies to kids, seeing mass murderers like Annie and Reiner alive...smelling historias writing, seeing Historia celebrating her daughters birthday, seeing a bird wrap a scarf around Mikasa is far from dark, its almost Disney movie end until they added the nukes dropping on Paradis to make it edgy again. (Did Code Geass need a timelapse for nukes to ruin the Zero Requiem plan? Or Lelouch crying over Nunnally marrying someone else and Suzaku telling him to get his act together? At least thinking about him for 10 years?) We know in hindsight how many more Eldians had to die instead of following with Zeke's euthanization plan where less people would die or be born into conflict and suffering. Again not saying AoT doesnt deserve the praise and hype but the ending couldve been done better with all the time and money they had and still pushed the "the cycle never changes" message, i just cant look past the ending besides disappointing and rushed. Attack on Titan regardless is still a huge phenomena with its crazy foreshadowing since episode 1, twists, rewatchability, epic music, animation etc but it just has more to argue about on in my opinion. Code Geass is consistently good but the ending is great, AoT is consistently great but the ending is good. Hope this was worth reading, Thank you.

SAIKI MENTION!!! this show is not talked about enough TT but W reccs

Clover

I think you would really like Friren, only 1 season atm

Erik Norin

Mob Psycho would be awesome!

Bella Putri

There are so many more good anime out there, i just don't know what ur type is lmao

Poragami

Why the fuck would anyone recommend Food Wars lol

Poragami

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for some fun, some seriousness. Frieren for a beautifully written story and masterful animation. Made in Abyss for some adventuring with pretty dark themes. Saiki or Konosuba for some comedy. Mob Psycho because i think everyone should've watched it atleast once in their life - same goes for My Hero Academia, i know, the fanbase is fucking weird, but the Anime isn't, it's a pretty damn good show and no it doesn't fall off after season 3 lol.

Poragami

If you want a bit more code geass watch lelouch of the resurrection, it's a bit different but it shows what a post world looks like!

JOJO, Frieren or Mob psycho

Jonas Teigen

Carter would LOVE Steins;Gate

Freedom

Prison school would be wild lol… i think genre for it would be “sus” lol

Freedom

🗣️🔈 The Promised Neverland season 1!

Mariacake

I think it’s good to watch SG0, but personally, i think season 1 is already a complete story in itself, and usually really hardcore fans watch steins; gate 0

Freedom

Yes yes! The promised neverland season 1!!

Mariacake

Yes I think they will like The Promised Neverland!!

Mariacake

Jojos for shounen, kaguya for romcom, prison school for comedy, Re zero for isekai, Mob Psycho for ... idk it's just good. I really think you guys should choose one of these, and reading the comments I think most people agree 🙏

Starkfern

Here’s some short anime you guys might like: Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, Devilman Crybaby, Dororo, Great Pretender, Gurren Lagann, Hellsing Ultimate, Made in Abyss, Mob Psycho, Parasyte, Pluto, Prison School, Steins;Gate (+Steins;Gate0), The Promised Neverland (S1!!!), Trigun (1998)

ooAlmondMilk

Yesss, they haven't seen an isekai yet this is the one they should watch

Starkfern

🤝

Freedom

Don't they also have to watch SG0? Which would make it 50

Starkfern

Lelouch of the Re;surrection should be the next

Maki

Next anime should be My Hero Academia!

Celine Ibori

why do you say so haha

Ben Jerald Fernandez

Can’t touch this Stone

Not happening lol

Can’t touch this Stone

This is just me speculating (I'm not sure if there's any confirmation or what the prevailing theories are), but I believe Lelouch’s creation of the Requiem plan was triggered by Nunnally's "death." With her "death," his entire purpose and ideology crumbled, as she had always been his driving motivation. The weight he carried with all the deaths and destruction he caused hoping that it would eventually lead to making the world a better place specifically for her, seemed to collapse on him, leading to the formation of his final plan. I also think his resolve solidified after losing everything (betrayal of the black knights and his status as Zero) and witnessing C’s world. Despite the suffering and cruelty caused by humanity, he realized that there is still hope and kindness, and that people have always endured hardship, longing for a better future, "Mankind's Wish". With that understanding, he forces himself to continue, embracing the role of the villain and taking the fall in order to create a better world. They did an excellent job of bringing Suzaku and Lelouch’s characters full circle. Suzaku, seeking punishment and redemption, and Lelouch, paying the price for using the Geass, both find their conclusions tied back together. Suzaku’s punishment is that he would finally be able to sacrifice his life, though this time, it is no longer motivated by personal desires but by the collective good. It’s not his actual life he sacrifices, but rather his normal life, his personal happiness, and his future. At the same time, he redeems himself from the guilt of his father’s death and Japan's subjugation. By becoming Zero, the symbol of freedom, and killing Lelouch, the tyrant who conquered the world, atoning for his past sins and carrying on "Mankind's Wish". Lelouch’s full circle moment is pretty self-explanatory, especially in this final episode and what C.C. says while praying in the church. Btw Schenizal is alive and is next to Nunnally towards the end during the montage, and he is still geassed by Lelouch's command to obey zero. And it's also been theorized that the guy pulling the wagon with CC is Lelouch, but I'm not too convinced that it is, and honestly I don't really want it to be either. I don't have much else to add. I feel like everything else is explained. But for some reason, I remember Lelouch knocking off the helmet to reveal the identity of Zero as Suzaku. I guess I either made that up or saw an edit of it or something, kinda weird ig but whatever, Overall, I’d rate this anime around 8-8.5/10. It's an absolute classic and very entertaining.

Enma

Oh absolutely, SteinsGoat is only 23 episodes, all the mpre reason to watch it!

Freedom

2 deep cuts right there. Probably too obscure to ever get the vote sadly lol

Zess

Just finished rewatching this reaction lmao! The first time I was still so caught up with watching the show itself but i wanted to focus on you guys watching especially the best scenes and amazing lines of this show haha! Loved it!

Freedom

Lelouch's command to Schneizel was "You will serve Zero." He did not say "me," so in this case he serves whoever is under the mask. You guys should consider watching the last movie that is set after this, but in an alternate timeline where Lelouch lives. The first three movies are basically recaps of the entire show with some minor changes.

Handler One

Wow, I don’t see it being recommended often. I too love Akame ga kill. In most of the games I play, Natsu is my account name and if I have an alt, its Esdeath

Natsu1401

Yeah, right

Most people believed Lelouch is in C's World talking to C.C while shes trying to "live" instead of "collecting memories", she still wants to die smiling someday.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Ending is so good!!!!!!!!!!!!! Up next, Food Wars!!

Ben Jerald Fernandez

🤷🏽

Cannon Andrus

For the next anime watch I would personally recommend a shorter series especially with Naruto and One Piece already going. You can get these shorter ones out of the way. Mob Psycho/Steins Gate/Frieren could replace Arcane. I honestly don’t care which one gets picked. They’re all good. Castlevania should replace Code Geass. Penguin or Alice in Borderland could replace Squid Games and it will end close to the time SG season 2 is out. Band of Brothers/Severance could replace Dark. Just my hopes. Which will probably be destroyed 😂

GreetswithJudgement

I know the movies are a mixed bag, but the final 2019 movie includes many of the elements you mentioned wanting from the finale, plus it has some good moments.

Isabella Anderson

Goat ending indeed! Now you gotta watch Mob Psycho guys! 🫶

Elain

Carter would hate it (or at least one part)

Ben U

top three characters: lelouch, cc, kallen. i loved suzaku by the end but i hated him for most of the show so i can’t include him lmaoo

ash

crazy cause geass is not even my goat anime but lelouch is still my GOAT main character.. the people’s 🐐 fr

ash

You guys should try Castlevania. I’m confident that you would love it!

DrumPole15

• Kaguya-sama - love is war • Oshi no Ko • Steins;Gate

Asbjørn Kennedy

If you guys ever want react to/watch more Code Geass, there is a canon alternate timeline that starts with the movie "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection" which takes place several years after the Zero Requiem plan (really f'ing good). There is then a show that takes place after the movie called "Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture" which was released earlier this year during the summer anime season.

Animeke

Code Geass is still a top 5 show for me. The ending is simply a masterpiece, everything's wrapped up nicely (although bitter-sweet), and Lelouch is without a doubt one of the best written characters, period.

Animeke

Love to see Jojos!

Brandon Heflin

Ethan Brian

I wish they would do Gurren Lagann... not too optimistic about it winning a poll tho

Marlon

Yeah....there hasn't been a show since that has given me mental whiplash like that. Imma need season 2 to give me closure.

Garlic

i would love for u to watch Your Lie In April or Dororo

Cookie

lelouch suzaku cc are probably my top 3

Cookie

Shinsekai Yori/From the New World is an absolutely amazing show that is very underappreciated and considering the thriller/psychological/mystery parts of it that develop I think the Geks would really enjoy it. 26 episodes Otherwise if you want a rollercoaster powered by jet fuel of a show just watch Inuyashiki. 11 episodes Both of these shows have some dark traumatic things but if you handled AOT then I don't think these are worse

Nick K

STEINS;GOAT please

Freedom

Castlevania

LovetheDove

Watch it in english now, and really dial in. It will be a 9.7. English is a lot of fun and worth the watch even if its once.

Raven Kesterson

Would highly recommend Promised Neverland Season 1. ABSOLUTE CINEMA

Jimmy

I just know Steins;Gate would lose the poll, i already fee sad, oh well, Jack, Cannon, Carter, Mckay, Brigg! Please watch Steins;GOAT pleaseeeee

Goated Comment Goated Show

Zipzzty

Oh my gosh, i just hope the Geks watch / react to it at some point, it’s really a must.

Freedom

It’s not my favorite show but probably my favorite ending. It’s just so damn good.

Michael H

Zipzzty

YES, LET STEINS;GATE BE SEEN!

Summertime rendering is so goated

Zipzzty

Ending is PEAK

Freedom

A lot of the stuff you guys say you are missing out on is shown in the movie. People avoid it bc the anime ending was amazing but IMO it does a good job of satisfying the fan service we wanted

Sanji

Thank you Jack!!!! Also loved how you predicted that Nunnaly was gonna open her eyes!!!!

Freedom

The Promised Neverland or Parasyte: The Maxim for Code Geass replacement!

jessiefungirl

Yesssss thank you, Steins;Gate please!!!! There’s so much shonen in your weekly reactions guys!!!! Steins;Gate will balance this out, it’s in the same caliber as Code Geass and FMAB The protagonis in steinsgate is like Lelouch in terms of how he carries the show!!!! Please trust me!!!!

Freedom

Im so happy you guys love CGs ending. Despite all of its flaws, and even after so many rewatches, CG is still one of my fav anime(s) (originals) and Lelouch is still one of my fav characters. Also glad Rolo and Jeremiah are loved too. This has been a great journey with yall. Looking forward to whichever new series you guys will pick up.

Nico

I hated reading the subtitle in that scene… they mistranslated it i think It should be “a wish called Geass” which is how Lelouch said it in dub hehe

Freedom

Omg this is so interesting!

Freedom

Thank you!!!! Steins;Gate please!!! If you loved FMAB and Code Geass, then for sure you will love Steins;Gate too!

Freedom

Recap movies are really good too as well as Lelouch of Resurrection if you want more "after" code geass. I also recommend To Your Eternity for the next anime :)

SirenWindy

well there is a movie i kind of don't like it

christopher aquino

REAAALLLY LOVED YOUR REACTION TO THIS ENDING!!!! I think i stopped watching weekly coz I really prefer bingewatching your reactions instead, but i was absolutely tempted to watch your reactions to this ending first and it did not disappoint!!!! I’m so happy you liked it! Love that Lelouch is in all of your top 3s! Love that Rolo is in Carter’s! There is one episode about Rolo that made me cry that I’m interested to see your reactions, so i’ll check that out when i binge this. Love Cannon putting Jeremiah in top3, although i know Viletta is his top 0. Haha. It’s also interesting that none of you guys have C2/ CC in top3… anyway I’m with Mckay here! Lelouch >>>>>>> Suzaku > Kallen > C2/CC > Rolo = Shirley = Euphemia I’m in the same boat as Brigg putting Code Geass above FMAB!!! It’s Code Geass > FMAB > Steins;Gate for meeeee. If you crave for a quality anime with great execution, characters and story, then Steins;Gate is a no brainer! It could be also a patreon exclusive for all I care and I’ll be here for it all the way!!!!! Loved your discussions at the end of Code Geass, i kinda wished it just went on and on haha I’m so happy, i dont care if not a lot of people like this show, but I’m happy it’s got that Studio Gek stamp of approval! Love you guys, you’re all goats!!!!

Freedom

Yes, The author wanted to leave it open in the anime whether one believes that he died or not. However, if you really paid attention, it becomes very clear that Lelouch must still be alive.

Michaela Igl

Nah he is alive in the movie continuity but in the anime continuity its left ambiguous

CoolCasey

Fate series, MHA, Young Justice, or Castlevania next Black Clover too thats another peak anime

kai

You guys actually need to just watch Steins gate next. Forget the poll and all that bs. Its literally Dark the anime and you're loving Dark so far

Pulse rifles suck in pve

Id love to see some reaction people watch akame ga kill. i know it gets alot of flack but its actually one of my favorites. its action is just too cool.

Zed

I think Fate Zero would make for good reactions

Brady

My Hero Academia next please :)

Alaric Lloyd

You guys gotta rewatch it in dub and the rewatches make you get more attached to the characters and series so I get it in a way but if you wanna see what happens to everyone you gotta watch the resurrection movie

Renaldo Allard

Throwin random shade at FMAB come on man. I feel like the essence of that show was lost on you Cannon :(

Paul Durbin

yeah first half of Steins Gate is slow but still one of my favorite animes, has a fire OP too

Brady

Top 3 Lelo Cornelia Schneizel

GreetswithJudgement

Is that a Mikasa figure under the mic?

Mariacake

It’s still wonderful, I didnt mean to sound like I was bashing. I really miss hand drawn 90s

Brianna Tsao

Steins Gate and Samurai Champloo are both classics. Steins Gate has some slow pacing at times from what I remember, but if you let it cook, it cooks.

albrev8051

It sucks hows theres multiple fantastic shows that have a shameful scene lol I know the one you're talking about though.

Zess

You think this is what hitler was thinking? Hmm prob not...

Paul Durbin

rest of 86 maybe?

DrBaconator

9.3/10 is a good rating. Castlevania next please! 😊 Though I’m sure Mob Psycho and Steins Gate will beat it out.

GreetswithJudgement

Damn we made it, glad yall enjoyed it as much as yall did. Bringing back some old post ending discussion theories from before the movies came out. Do y'all believe Lelouch died? Or he was there talking with C.C? A popular theory for us who believed he lived was because there were 2 codes that existed in this story. C.C has one obviously, and V.V/Charles had the other. Where did that code go? If it requires physical touch to transfer the power, Charles was dying as he was strangling Lelouch, where the transfer could have happened. For years after this anime I always believed Lelouch was alive and got away from it all in hiding with C.C living a peaceful life. Some of us thought he was the one driving the carriage. Could be wishful coping lol just was a fun discussion between the fans before the movies were ever out. Nowadays I prefer the idea of him being truly sacrificed for his goal.

Zess

The only correct answer

GreetswithJudgement

Samurai Champloo 🔥🔥 Amazing choreography and music

Enma

Underrated Anime

Zipzzty

For reference, in terms of characters in the anime media, Lelouch per several decade long polls is the #1 character followed by obvious ones (Levi, Luffy, and L). For some reason all these goated characters start with the letter 'L'.

Ronald Bohne

I nominate Heavenly Delusion but I'm scared how ya'll will react to 1 part.

Garlic

Yes!

GreetswithJudgement

Just watch it for the fun of it code geass lelouch of the resurrection last one to go out with a bang if you wanna watch the other movies you can and there’s a new code gease series if you guys wanna watch but you gotta watch the moves before that because they all tie into the new series but resurrection is a must 🙏

Renaldo Allard

You guys gotta watch the movie code geass lelouch of the resurrection it’s so good to see him back on screen 🙏💯

Renaldo Allard

Lelouch is alive. He is not even dead. He cant die if you all keept attention

Michaela Igl

I still love the 97 berserk anime with all its flaws. That hand drawn style with the soundtrack is one of the most iconic vibes in anime ever.

Zess

Sean, CG used to be my favorite anime of all time after Gundam Wing but on rewatch it’s just not as good as I remember. I do think the ending helped it but other than that the pacing is horrible, I enjoy maybe a few characters but love only one and the story is just a mess sometimes. It’s no longer in my top five, maybe 10 but I do find that it is not as impressive as many say it is but I do love this ending!

When Lelouch said he was going to cast Geass on the world it went back to what Lelouch said before "Geass is like a wish..it's a request to someone to give you the power to achieve what you can't on your own". He turned Geass into a good thing in the end

Matt C

Cowboy Bebop could be a good choice

Would def recommend Steins Gate for another goated anime. Some Scifi would be a nice change of pace for yall.

Brianna Tsao

Goated Conclusion goated ride watching code geass for the first time hits different

Zipzzty

The first time I watched this show I thought it was the goat, and the ending still is for sure, but yeah the pacing really stuck out as too fast this time around. I'd put the show as a whole around 9 / 10. I'd put Vinland Saga, AOT, Madoka Magica, and maybe a few others over it.

James Moss

Personally I never could get into code geass fully and thought it was not as GOATEd as everyone said it was. It’s a good show but it’s just not for me. 7/10 Before code geass lovers come for me I’ll also say I haven’t watched it for 7 years so I barely remember anything about it, just that at the time I found it underwhelming and didn’t like the ending

Sean Carroll

Glad, that the Geks 😊 got to finished this masterpiece.

Lelouch made it intentional that Schneizel would "serve Zero" which was himself and whoever wore Zero's Outfit. Are there any plans to watch the third movie, or all 3. If you guys do, keep in mind that it's its own timeline, movie timeline and anime timeline are different.

Best anime ending I've seen. Nunally's crying always make me shed tears haha. You guys need to watch Frieren. It's like the opposite of Code Geass in that it isn't slamming you with 4 new plot points every 30 seconds and it focuses more on world building and characters.
