2024-11-04 18:57:51 +0000 UTCI don't know if anyone has explained what "Otaku" means. But basically is to refer a person that's fanatical almost to the point of obsession for something. (outside of Japan tho, people use it exclusively for anime/manga fans) It has bad connotations, like in this case is being used to describe Okarun in a bad way, before it was translate to "nerd" Another thing, Momo being a Gyaru she use a really peculiar way of talking, a lot of cut out words, idioms and what not. I'll say the translation team is doing a good job adapting her way of speaking to the translation, that's why you see a ton of "modern terms" to kinda get the same feeling on how she is speaking in Japanese. I feel like, for this one if you don't know a little bit about Japanese culture you do miss some things 😅

2024-11-04 01:38:34 +0000 UTCI get localization for the target audience but sometimes they take it way too far. I found “No Cap” in one of my mangas the other day and I’ve never cringed so much. And it’s a manga targeted towards an older demographic. No one will understand the meaning of it in a few years, so I think it’s a fine balance of how much freedom one should take with the translations. I definitely despise the use of slang. The use of Boomer in ORV also threw me off.

2024-11-01 21:11:59 +0000 UTCThe reason shows like Naruto and one piece don't stick strictly to the manga material is because they were/are long running weekly shows. Seasonal shows that are abundant now don't really have to worry about the show catching up to the manga, so there isn't a need for filler and pacing issues much these days. Hence most modern anime do follow their manga source material pretty strictly. Seasonal style anime schedules only started becoming the norm in the last decade or so I think.

2024-11-01 21:04:15 +0000 UTCRemember the characters aren't actually saying things like "totes", that's just the sub translators taking liberties to try and translate it to something that has a similar vibe to the Japanese being used. The characters are definitely using Japanese language that's more used by the Japanese youth though, so the translators are doing a good job of representing that.

They are people who only watch, speak, and breathe anime content, to the point that it's their whole personality/reality. This type of person is usually a loner and a shut-in who only cares for 2D characters so it's used as a derogatory word. (Japan is a collective society so individualism is seen as a Western concept and is frowned upon) Anime also is seen as made for younger audiences and something you should outgrow which equates to lacking maturity.
