It's fan edited and completely arbitrary. It's choppy, keeps padding, and gets rid of fantastic anime only moments that are well written and emotional that add depth to the show. Doesn't get rid of all of them, but it does for multiple. It's pretty easy to see why people who love this story dont like it lol once it's done by actual professionals (Wit studio remake and the Toei remaster of post timeskip arcs theyre starting) are going to be the only ones worth it. Also those "watch 2 minutes of this filler episode" can be skipped and are very few anyway. Less than 10 episodes are like that maybe?

Now that your done with east blue I recommend watching a remastered version of the saga called Episode of East Blue. It’s like a hour and shows the best moments of the saga. Better animation and the Mihawk fight is awesome

It's crazy how wrong u guys are. Literally said the same thing about Dandadan, that it's too "out there" but they ended up enjoying it. The story of MHA, the action, the OST's, the backstories and the characters are like top tier. It gets better every season, and IMO, season 4 is better in some parts than season 3, after season 5, it's straight up PEAK PEAK.

Just because we all did one thing doesn't mean it's the easiest way to do it lol. the list is great when it's full filler eps bc they're easy to skip that way, but I've seen many reaction channels make the mistake of watching an entire ep for 2-8 mins of canon and then express frustration over wasting their time when that could've been prevented using one pace for these type of episodes. The extreme aversion for one pace is very weird when it's useful and easiest in these cases.

(Spoilers ahead) There are almost no major deaths in the show, no realism, no consequences, characters that are “killed off” magically come back later, the pacing is terrible, and every island each member “happens” to split up and face an enemy who is their perfect match or else they’d lose. Not to mention how unbelievably annoying chopper and Usopp can be

I do want to emphasize that one piece fillers are NOT like Naruto fillers. They are very enjoyable and sometimes brought up like the fish. I'd only skip the fillers that are for the movies personally. Some of the other fillers are fan favorites.

Carter’s got the right mindset to enjoy the show to the fullest. Because of the great writing and epic/sad moments, it is easy to forget that there is a Loony Toons-esque comedy style at its core, and it can be frustrating when it pops up. Just gotta take it for what it is and embrace the goofiness.

The involvement starting and ending with the author preventing copyright issues by making it clear these are oda's original characters and world and his work is a mere novelisation, that's how these novels work. Had Oda been involved in the writing process, he would've been listed under the author(s) category, which he isn't. No one's saying googles wrong, but clicking on the first reddit link that pops up will not always be reliable info.

Also saying One Piece is long does not make a valid argument that the author wouldn’t cut things out, if Oda had infinite time he would definitely expand more .With how big the one piece world is and how many stories can be tell within it. The loguetown novel is not written by oda, it's written by someone named hamazaki... Novels are like fanfiction, the original mangakas have no involvement in them. Do you actually believe a guy who takes his sweet time to write a 100 chapters for each saga would cut anything out? That's just what some tell themselves to justify calling filler "anime canon". The cover pages and sbs segment are the only expanding on canon there is.

Yea, the devil fruit ability also extends to the user’s clothes because it would be a hassle if, every time they used their power, their clothes got ruined and they ended up naked. This is one of the things Oda considered, given that this is a shonen show.

It's very good until season 3 then it gets sporadically bad, but I'm sure they would like it. Carter would appreciate the peak moments and writing, Jack and Cannon would really like it, it might be too memelodramatic for Brig and MacKay but the hype moments would carry. Season 5 is where I'd guess all of them would be like "yeah this is just nothing, what's going on". Although season 5 has Todoroki family drama which is peak and some Shinsou stuff whic was really good

I dont think usopp and daddy's story was filler. It wasn't in the manga, but Im pretty sure it was some sidestory written by Oda at some point.

Usopp’s encounter with Daddy Masterson is in Oda’s Loguetown novel, there are some things that had to be cutted from the manga. So technically it is not a filler, Buggy’s adventure to find his body and crew perviously is also not a filler because it is shown on the cover page of the manga chapter. Cover page is basically side plot story that happens at the beginning of every chapter to show you some of the side characters and what is happening with them.

Something to keep in mind when watching OP is that some of it's biggest and most important themes are intangible concepts like Fate, Destiny and Luck. It's basically an accepted fact among the fanbase that one of Luffy's actual in-world abilities is that he's INCREDIBLY lucky. Like literally, if you go on the OP Wiki and look at Luffy's "powers and abilities" there's a section about how lucky he is. Carter was correct when he mentioned that Smoker sometimes speaks on behalf of the audience as that's very much what he did when he was like "it's as if heaven itself is protecting that man." I mean it's kind of hard to come to any other conclusion right?

this was the episode that actually got me hooked onto one piece. at the time i was a Naruto glazer just cause i related with him more being the lonely kid and stuff, but from here on One Piece just becomes the goat in terms of invoking a sense of adventure and curiosity about how all the little clues fit into the grand scheme of the story. it's actually a great contrast to naruto because while one piece usually has the happy-go-lucky vibe making the serious moments hit harder, the former has a depressive tone throughout the story making the sparse "happy" moments more of a treasure.

i totally agree on the take that some characters help the show feel more grounded rather than cartoony. characters like nami, zoro and smoker balance out luffy's ridiculousness and make the humor feel more tasteful imo. i also don't enjoy a lot japanese gags and tropes but i especially hated those of the early 2000's animes so i never understood why one piece humor and luffy as a character felt endearing to me until i rewatched the show with my siblings
