Fukurodani (Bokuto's team) and Nekoma are from Tokyo. Ubugawa is from Kanagawa prefecture and Shinzen is from Saitama prefecture. They've been doing the training camp for years together but since Karasuno renewed their rivalry with Nekoma, they were invited to participate. Also yeah this tournament is for a different "Nationals." There is one in the fall then one in the spring.

Also to clarify something else, the number of teams in Nationals is determined by the number of teams in the prefecture. Karasuno's prefecture only gets 1 spot at Nationals, but Tokyo gets 2 because they have twice as many schools.

To try to clarify something for you, in Japan there's a Fall Nationals and a Spring Nationals. When Shiratorizawa won in the fall, it qualified them for the fall Nationals. However everything is reset for Spring. Everybody goes back to stage 1. So they have to win their prefecture for the right to advance to Spring Nationals.

One thing i want to add to all these is that Aoba can’t play Shiratorizawa before Karasuno, cause there is probably a ranking system, which will not allow previous top 2 teams to be on the same side of the brackets. Basically Aoba can meet Shiratorizawa only in finals

Basically, there are two tournaments, the one Shiratorizawa was able to play for is already done. This is a whole new tournament they are playing. There are essentially two prefectures that we are seeing right now: -Tokyo (which has Nekoma, Fukurodani (Bokuto), Shinzen (synchronized attack), and Ubugawa (strong serves) and -Miyagi (Karasuno, Aoba Johsai, Date Tech, Shiratorizawa) Tokyo is such a big area so they get to have 3 teams represent to go to Nationals (two for size, another one since they always host this tournament) Miyagi can only send one representative, so Karasuno would have to beat Aoba Johsai and Shiratorizawa to go to Nationals.

Unironically that little silly "ah the toilets are dangerous" scene of Hinata running into the main threats of Karasuno is probably among my favourites in the entire show. It so clearly shows the personality of each player & their relationships with each other. Ushiwaka I find quite funny despite his seemingly dry personality. It's so messed up how he non-chalantly just wishes well to Oikawa & Iwa for their "last tournament in high school" & then gets confused when they get angry & clarifies that only one team (automatically in his mind his) is going to the nationals. Also the detail of him referring to Iwa & Oikawa simply by their last names in a "oh you're here too" type of manner, but acknowledging Hinata by his full name. It's interesting how Hinata kinda has recognition from both parties, but the idea of Karasuno winning is clearly out of question for them. To further unintentionally kick down both Karasuno and Seijoh, Ushiwaka simply adds that they'll take on any challenger, and like Oikawa said he's not trying to be mean at all when saying these high and mighty things. To him it's just a fact that Shiratorizawa is the strongest team in the whole prefecture. Everytime i look forward to watching peoples reactions to this specific scene and i was not disappointed lol.

If you guys are not up for watching the post season credits because they're on youtube and not crunchyroll or another streaming website, it's totally okay! HOWEVER, the important ones that you really do need to watch are the two OVAs Land VS Air and The Path of the Ball. These two are to be watched after season 3 and BEFORE season 4, and they are very much canon material. The studio just released them as special episodes because it seemed like the content wouldn't fit seamlessly into the start of season 4. Important thing is: They (aoba josai, karasuno, shiratorizawa, dateko etc) are all playing each other again to be THE one and only representative team for Miyagi Prefecture in the Spring Nationals For tokyo prefecture, they get 3 representative teams because tokyo is tokyo. That's where fukurodani, nekoma, itachiyama (sasuke's team) compete. The main goal is to get to Spring Nationals where the representative teams battle it out to be the best in the country.

To answer y'all's question about why Shiratorizawa has to play in the qualifiers to make it to nationals: Remember that the Spring Tournament is a separate competition from the Interhigh. Shiratorizawa did make it to nationals in the Interhigh(summer), but to get to nationals again in the Spring Tournament, Shiratorizawa still has to play and win first place in the prefecture before they can represent Miyagi prefecture as the only team to play at nationals. From here on out, this is basically a fight between the prefecture's top schools (including Aoba Johsai, Date Tech and Johzenji, etc.) to win that first place spot. Just because Shiratorizawa qualified for nationals in the Interhigh in the summer, it doesn't mean that they don't have to work their butts off again during the Spring Tournament qualifiers(winter) to get to nationals again. Hopefully, this helps to clarify some things! For the thing about the different prefectures that the summer camp schools are in: our Karasuno boys are situated in the Miyagi prefecture, which is located in the Tohoku region somewhere to the north of Japan. Fukurodani, Nekoma, Shinzen and Ubugawa teams are situated in the the range of the Tokyo prefecture, which is located in the Kanto region directly south of the Tohoku region. If you look up the regions and prefectures of Japan, you can roughly see how far the two prefectures are, so the Nekoma and Fukurodani teams are definitely in the same prefecture competing for right to represent Tokyo at nationals. Whether or not they'll get to nationals is another thing altogether! Side note, I love how much Carter loves and defends Daichi?? Like he's so underrated and I'm so happy that my boy is getting the love he deserves! OH AND I'm so happy that you guys love my boy Ushijima Wakatoshi (Ushiwaka)!! He's one of my favourite characters and I love his charisma! Ok there are 2 national tournaments in 1 school year, so teams have only 2 chances to reach nationals per year. Teams that play in nationals are teams that got 1st in their prefecture's qualifiers. The first national tournament is the Interhigh, where Karasuno lost to Aoba Josei who lost to Shiratorizawa, so Shiratoriziwa went to the Interhigh nationals. We don't know how they did in nationals, but the Interhigh tournament is now over. The Spring tournament is a completely different tournament, which means there are new qualifiers. The team that comes 1st in the Miyagi prefecture will represent Miyagi in the Spring nationals.

Each tournament has qualifiers and nationals where the winners of each prefecture meet. Shiratorizawa went to nationals for the inter high, now they are playing the spring qualifiers to go to spring nationals (separate tournament, separate trophy). Karasuno, Aoba Johsai, Date Tech and Shiratorizawa are in Miyagi, with 1 representative that goes to National each tournament. Shinzen, Ubugawa, Nekoma and Fukurodani are in Tokyo, 2 representative (+1 because they are hosting) go to nationals.

this is extra but for nationals they're choosing ONE team from each prefecture to compete there except tokyo since it's a larger area so they get two spots PLUS an extra spot for being the venue hosts Also as for the camp; they had a long stretch of time since they lost the first tournament, we joined first briefly first then had to go back to miyagi while tokyo finished their own qualifiers. we joined them again when qualifiers finished and they were practicing while finals for the previous tournament finals was wrapping up. we joined them one last time after the preliminaries for one last practice, now we're locked in to the qualifiers. the show does explain more about this later, so i say wait till we get there.

i screamed so many times in ep 14 and the outro, i don’t think IM ready for what’s to come 🥹 also, i feel like you guys have a pretty good grasp on the tournament but i think the thing that is getting y’all confused is that there is no regular season, so i’ll try to explain in terms of the nba. in this explanation, qualifiers = reg season and playoffs = nationals. imagine if the nba was year round or close to it, so there was an additional playoffs/ship that happened in the fall. a spring playoffs and a fall/winter playoffs if you will. the celtics (this years winner) would absolutely still have to play through their reg season (qualifiers) and do well enough to make it to the fall playoffs/ship (nattys). obviously there are more hs teams than nba teams, so A LOT more teams fail to make it to the playoffs (nationals), but haikyuu is exactly the same. shiratorizawa is at the qualifiers cus the previous national tournaments don’t matter, there are NO automatic qualifiers ever. so i’d argue that the qualifiers are essentially just a cut throat ass reg season, which is why practice matches are so so so important and takeda is the goat 😮‍💨 i hope this makes sense for you guys, sorry if it’s more confusing 😭🙏🏾

About the tourney layout and prefectures: There are 2 tournies per year in Haikyuu. The Inter High and the Spring Tournament, both eventually lead to a national Tournament for the winners of the regional qualifiers. (it was Shiratorizawa for the last 3 years in Miyagi where Karasuno is from and they have always won against Aoba Johsei). Some prefectures are way larger/more populated than others, so they get an extra Seed and can send 2 Teams to nationals, but that is not important right now. As for the Fukurodani Training Group: There are 4 other teams other than Karasuno, Nekoma and Fukurodani are from Tokyo, so they could play eachother at the Spring Tournament Qualifiers for a nationals spot. Shinzen (Combo Team) and Ubugawa (Serves Team) are from two different prefectures, so they cant play against any of the Training Group Teams in a tournament other than in nationals. Hope you find this and i could help anyone being confused, it isnt really well explained in the show, but you pick it up when you watch it more than one time ^^

They're currently competing in the Miyagi qualifiers for Spring Nationals, only one team from Miyagi gets to go. Shiratorizawa won the qualifiers for the first national tournament but lost at Nationals, they still need to participate in the qualifiers for Spring. Im pretty sure them and Aoba Josai didn't need to play those first 2 matches like Karasuno did because they were the two teams at semi-finals during the last qualifiers.

I wish you would spend your time trying to give this show a chance instead of commenting stuff that is completely unrelated to the video. As I responded to the other guy here, Haikyuu is just as good as so called action anime. It only gets progressively better and the tournament arcs can be more exciting than fights. The geks are also always lively and excited when they watch Haikyuu,so instead of waiting for them to get done it would be better to hop on the ride along. From 4 shows I watch their reactions to, Haikyuu is by far the most fun and favorite for me

I might be wrong but I think you guys are confusing the Inter-High with the spring tournament when you say Shiratorizawa already beat Aoba Josai. They beat them in Season 1 during the Inter-High but have yet to play in the spring tournament qualifiers.

also all the teams at the camp, shinzen, fukurodani and nekoma are all in the TOKYO prefecture, whereas karasuno, seijoh, and shiratorizawa etc are all in the MIYAGI prefecture. the reason that karausno cannot verse fukurodani or nekoma is because they arent in the same prefectures, so they have to meet at nationals in order to play each other officially outside of practice matches also because tokyo is such a big prefeture, each year the nationals get the chance to host 2 teams to represent nationals at tokyo instead of 1 like every other prefecture. but this year because theyre hosting the nationals, they get 1 extra slot, so in total, they have 3 teams going. whereas with karasuno they have to beat every other school to be number 1 in order to head to nationals. hope this made senseeeeee

in a school term there are 2 nationals. in the first competition, when karasuno lost to oikawas team, they went and versed shiratorizawa and lost, allowing shiratorizawa to go to nationals. in the time that karasuno was at the training camp, the nationals took place and shiratorizawa lost and now they came back and have one more chance to go and win at nationals again, which is this tournament. so each school has 2 chances a year to go to nationals. hope that makes sense <3

this is the clearest explanation! They are both separate national tournaments with each their own prelims. Just because Shiratorizawa beat Seijoh in the Interhigh one and went to Nationals, doesnt mean they cant replay again in the Spring one now. Its just that because they ended best-of-four, they get to skip a few rounds. So technically, seijoh could again play against shiratorizawa for a spot at the Spring nationals, which is why they had that stand off at the bathroom. So now every prefecture is having the prelims for the Spring tournament!

I think for Tokyo more than one team can qualify because it is so big AND it hosts the national tournament, i can't remember how many exactly, but it is not the same as Miyagi's prefecture or other prefectures where only one team goes to nationals.

Tokyo prefecture gets more slots since it has the most amount of teams. more then one team can go to nationals there. Fukurodani and Nekoma are from the same prefecture (tokyo) so they compete with each other. Itachiyama is also from Tokyo. and also other teams we haven't met.

Basicaly Nationals happen TWICE a year. Last time, Shiratorizawa won in Myagi disctrict (where Karasuno and Aoba Johsai are) and went to nationals and lost. This is the qualifiers for the SECOND nationals, so everything starts over. Btw despite how good Oikawa is he has never went to nationals P.S. The thing I can say about the post-reaction predictions and discussions is that you guys have NO idea about how the show will progress and end. Remembering your concerns on first ep and listening to what u guys are saying now, it makes the story of Haikyuu's author crazier to me, he never read manga growing up, and he did not have that art/drawing skill in his young adult life, after he graduated uni he was at a company designing flyers for supermarkets, even his boss at that job told him that his art was ass, after that he was sick of his old job and decided to apply to Jump magazaine at the age of 25, there an editor saw his work, even though the editor had a lot to say about his art skill but he was hooked on the story, and the rest is history, i think most new anime fans think, anime about volleyball? what could it be? but once you get hooked in the world of Haikyuu it is different

There are 2 tournaments that are called "nationals", Shiratorizawa won the interhigh for Miyagi, so they went to the interhigh national tournament. They winning the regional tournament doesn't mean they can go directly to spring tournament, they just go directly to the best 16 in the qualifiers, which is what it's going to start right now. This qualifiers are for the spring tournament which is the other national competition. Anyone that wants to go to spring nationals needs to play the qualifiers and in Miyagi's case only the winner of the qualifiers gets to go to Nationals. Miyagi: Karasuno Aoba Johsai/Seijoh Date tech Shiratorizawa Jozenji (they will play right now against them) Ohgiminami and the one with the 2 meters guy (forgot the name lol) all those are from the same region as Karasuno, Miyagi, they can play any of these teams in this qualifiers. Tokyo region: Nekoma Fukurodani Shinzen Ubugawa Are the ones the boys trained with. Karasuno can only play official matches with any of these teams if both make it to a national tournament. (interhigh or spring). Every region has their own qualifiers, but not every region has only 1 representative in the nationals. Bigger regions like Tokyo can have 2 (or even 3 in some cases). So it’s an obvious, in order to stay at nationals you have to beat the teams there it’s like climbing a ladder the more you go up the stronger the teams are. Shiratorizawa lost while in nationals and now they’re trying to go back that’s why they are here. 1) Shiratorizawa won the Interhigh qualifiers which already had its own nationals ( we don't get to know who won the Interhigh nationals). 2) From the current point in the story each team has to win four games in order to win the their Prefectural tournament. This would give them a place at the Spring Tournament NATIONALS (Different from Interhigh Nationals). 3) Each team in the summer camp is in a different prefecture which is why they train together, (if they were in the same prefecture they wouldn't want to reveal their strats to their direct opponents in their prefecture). 4)The battle of the Garbage Dump can only happen if Karasuno beats everyone in MIyagi prefecture and Nekoma gets a top three spot in Tokyo. Which would mean that they both go to the Spring Tournament Nationals.

Tournament breakdown There are 2 national tournaments the Inter-high and the spring tournament. To qualify for them you need to make it through the regional prelims for each one first the inter-high then the spring tournament. The inter-high tournament takes place before the spring tournament. And you need to qualify for each tournament respectively, that’s why shiratorizawa needs to still play to qualify for the spring tournament even though they already played in the inter-high nationals. Regional breakdown we (we as in karasuno) play in the miyagi region where only 1 team makes it to nationals since we live in a smaller region. Bigger regions like Tokyo, where nekoma and fukurdani play, have 3 teams qualify since they live in a bigger region with more people. Hope this helps

EXPLINATION Every year there are TWO National volleyball tournaments. The inter high at the start of the school year and the spring tournament at the end of the school year (the spring tournament is the one karasuno is currently trying to qualify for). the one shiratorizawa qualified for is the inter high at the start of the year. fukarodoni and nekoma are from tokyo, shinzen are from saitama, ubugawa are from kanagawa. its worth noting that larger prefectures like tokyo can have more than one representative at nationals.

Here is a quick explanation of the tournament: Karasuno placed in the Top 8 in the Interhigh, they lost to Aoba Johsai in the quarter finals, so they skipped the first round. The top 4 skip the first two rounds (Aoba Johsai, Shiratorizawa). No team gets to skip the Spring High Prelims since Miyagi prefecture only gets one representative for Nationals.
