RUBY DETAIL I FORGOT TO MENTION! If you remember, her gem is on her LEFT hand, but her gauntlet forms at the diner table over her RIGHT hand. That means that as Garnet, Ruby and Sapphire are forming their gauntlets over THE OTHER'S gem to protect them!!!

I was like, "Why do I recognize Sardonyx's Voice" and then I looked it up and it was because she was part of the original Run of Wicked, and then I remembered.

My girlfriend and I (also a woman) are totally like Ruby and Sapphire. She's the one who gets mad/emotional and I'm the solution oriented one (she's also more butch than me which increases the comparisons, haha). It's not that I don't feel, I do, but my first focus is resolving shit, I can be mad later. I don't know if it's related, but I'm the oldest of 5 and she's the youngest of 5, growing up I had to be the responsible, get shit done sibling (I still am to be honest), while she didn't have that on her.

Ep 12 is definitely one of my favorites! It seems very small peanuts compared to what we get later but when this aired this was huuuuuuge. I still feel warm watching it!

Square Pizza is usually referred to as Sicilian Style Pizza and it’s delicious. It manages to be both crunchy and soft at the same time.

What’s crazy is: if Pearl had simply *asked* garnet to do it every now and then? Garnet would probably *agree!* Garnets incredibly pro fusion, and she loves her family!
The *problem* is that, due to pearls lack of self confidence, she felt she had to deceive garnet to get what she wanted, at the expense of the whole planet too.
Even when garnet rebuked Amythest at the start of the episode: she chided herself too. She wasn’t *blaming* amythest, but acknowledging the two get carried away together.

Honestly, not too much “happens” in these episodes? But these two back to back really solidify that this show works so damn well as a character drama first and foremost.
I finally got around to watching Evangelion, and I honestly felt the same way about that show too. It’s masterful when series can use their higher fantasy or Sci-fi to ultimately serve the characters and their personal highs and lows.

This is my favorite pair of episodes in the show (I know this released in a steven bomb but these are basically a pair plotwise). My one favorite specifically is A Cry for Help, I just love how slimy what Pearl did was, in a weird way. Like Pearl isn't a bad person but it's also so in character for her because she is THAT needy and desperate. It conjures an image in my head of Pearl sitting in her room after the first time breaking the tower and she's just holding herself like a drug addict looking for her next fix, until she resolves to trick Garnet. I'm never going to forget the shot of Sugilite breaking the tower while Pearl looks so anxious that it looks like she just got stabbed, its stunning. I really like Keystone Motel too I just have more complicated thoughts about A Cry for Help.

Oh god, if only terminally online fandoms had the common sense and control not to bring that stuff onto innocent bystanders as a bit

I still quote to myself sometimes "SQUARE PIZZA? What's wrong with this crazy state"
LOL
To see Ruby and Sapphire again is such a treat but at such a cost to how they both feel rightfully so towards Pearl.
And yes, they are just the cutest.

Not so fun fun fact, when this episode aired, the actual keystone motel got review bombed. A ton of people put 1 star reviews down saying things like "the pool was empty and there were scorch marks everywhere" and "the diner next door was in ruins." Funny in concept, but not when it actually affects businesses.

"For now, Sugulite needs to be benched"
Translation: Giving Nicki Minaj more lines is too expensive -_-
Seeing the gems sit down and watch Crying Breakfast Friends with Steven is fantastic. Especially since the show makes it REPEATEDLY clear that they're NOT into it xD
(But it's Steven's favourite show <3 )
"I see a tower built out of my mistakes"
Ow.
Amthyst's solo hurts to listen to (which is praise ^^')
I honestly love how Ruby and Sapphire are extreme versions of recognizable personality types.
The "Garnet & Pearl conflict" arc is SO good, and sooo important. But I was surprised we are here already ^^'

Yeah stoicism being associated with masculinity is more of a societal thing

Sardonyx was part of another steven bomb. After a few months they advertised an entire week of episodes involving Sardonyx related stuff.
You're lucky you didn't have to wait for all the bombs

I know at least in my own case, not being very expressive with your emotions is not really about being stoic and masculine, it's just how some people experience emotion. It can also be another symptom of adhd, not to mention introversion, it doesn't make those feelings any less real.

Man, its crazy how you related you and Richard to Ruby and Sapphire. Its a perfect fit.
